Read Beans and Rice

I love red beans and rice. Try to use real red beans rather than kidney beans if you can. As for the meat ingredients in this recipe, feel free to vary the ratio of meats and use more or less to taste.

  • I "spoon feed". During the growing season every week usually - at least every other week because sometimes life happens. Sometimes it's granular fertilizer, sometimes it's liquid. Once or twice a month I also add in some micronutrients or maybe soil amendments like humic acid, or biochar.

    Alternative Beans for "Hummus"

www.mashed.com The Underrated Bean You Should Use As The Base For Homemade Hummus - Mashed

Let us suggest a new bean to use as a base for your hummus: the white bean. White bean hummus is as delicious and much creamier than that made with chickpeas.

If you're not using chickpeas, it's not really hummus. However if you're willing to overlook that, other beans can be used similarly. One example is white beans.

Old Vickery Elementary School Restoration Attempt

The old Vickery Elementary School building, while dilapidated, still has nice bones. Hopefully the Beta Tau Lambda chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity will have success in restoring it.

It's worth a drive-by if you ever get a chance. Walking past and around though is pretty dicey. There's a good supply of derelicts around and some use the place for overnight stays.

Advantages of Canned vs Dry Beans
  • Agreed on most everything.

Canned beans = convenience. Sometimes I get an urge to eat beef weiners (I love meat by products) or spam and I like having them with a bowl of beans for work lunch. Usually pintos or black eyed peas. This happens on a whim so grabbing a can of beans is a perfect fit.

I do keep my own homemade beans in vacuum sealed packs in the freezer. Usually ranch style type or my own Mexican pinto/Anasazi bean recipe. It's just somehow a can of beans seems to be a perfect match for my meat by-product of choice.

Fort Worth Home to 2 of 10 Deadliest Texas Highways
  • Thanks. So pretty much the extreme southeastern portion of Fort Worth.

I'm guessing the section of 820 they list might be in the northeastern part of the loop since that area gets so much traffic as well.

Passport Fair in Fort Worth - August 6

There's a "passport fair" at the Downtown Fort Worth Post Office on Lancaster on Sunday August 6th. These fairs are described as "passport acceptance facilities such as post offices, libraries, and local government offices are hosting special passport acceptance fairs across the United States to help you and your family apply for your passport." More about them at https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/News/passports/special-passport-acceptance-fairs.html.

This one doesn't require an appointment, but I'd still get there early. It doesn't make your passport free ($165 altogether) but does make obtaining one easier since there will be people to assist and walk you through it.

Hint. Try to park free at the Trinity Railway Express (TRE) parking lot. Technically you need to ride the railway to park there for free but if you act like you belong no one will notice. If that doesn't suit you, just park along the street near the station parking lot and use the tunnel to walk through the station and to the post office.

Stop Rinsing Canned Beans by Default

  • Besides speed, what would actually suck about surfing the internet back in the day compared to now?
  • No mention of Mosaic (first web browser)? What sucked was you generally had to compile it yourself. That meant installing all the build tooling, building it, and turning it loose. Oh. Windows? Lol. No go. Gotta get an early version of Linux up and running first. That usually meant 20+ diskettes of Slackware installation.

But then you could surf in all the basic HTTP glory. It was a new world and it was awesome.
