I only ever used it for Pokemon, but I'm sure there were other uses.
  • It's true. I had a brother; he refused to trade with me. I still have a brother, and I'm sure he'd trade with me now, but we're in our (late) 30s, and so Pokemon time has certainly declined.

  • Bananas
  • I hang mine, not by a hanger that's weird, but by an old paper tower roll holder that is just three metal arms that I now hang bananas from, which is probably weirder than a hanger. I think they ripen at the same rate, but they don't get bruised from sitting on a counter or something. I happen to prefer my bananas with splotchy peels.

Anyway, also have totally come into my kitchen to peels agape, banana meat exposed for the world to see, dangling as though they'd been sentenced for murder in the Old West.

  • The millennial council
  • Trying to play red alert or age of empires and having to fill in a box for baud rate, but I have no idea what baud rate fucking is. Now we need to make another phone call and start the whole process over again.

  • The only way we lose is if we stand divided.
  • Biden is just one in a line of status quo. How has anyone's life gotten better in the last 10 years? 20? 30? I'm only 36 so maybe going back 30 years is tough for me to say, but since I joined the workforce I've watched the rich get richer, and at the end of the day that is the battle that needs to be fought. If this is a turning point, maybe Dems put forward an actual progressive.

  • Ebaumsworld is where 14- to 17-year-old me spent most of my time in those days. The forum was my introduction to internet message boards. Will always have a spot spot there.

  • A TL;DR of the Goldman-Sachs AI Criticism
  • Hopefully not a while, but that's a story for another day.

They have the chatbots reading emails, in her words, to make them (the emails) more enthusiastic. I don't even ask questions, I'm very insulated from her field and corporate workplaces in general, and admittedly view a lot of what happens there as completely outrageous, but is probably just par for the course.

  • A TL;DR of the Goldman-Sachs AI Criticism
  • My wife works for a hospital system and they now interact with a chat bot. Somehow it's HIPAA compliant, I dunno. But I said to her, all it's doing is learning the functions of you and your coworkers, and it will eventually figure out how to streamline your position. So theres more to learn, but it's moved into private sectors too.

  • Bill Gates-backed startup makes ‘butter’ out of water and carbon dioxide
  • We get this butter substitute (green lid, can't remember the name, I'd make a terrible shill) and it is phenomenal and 100% replaced spread butter. Cooking, I still use the regular most of the time though.

  • Basic instincts
  • Yeah. Is it board games or furry?

  • I should be banned from using microwaves
  • Glad to find a like-minded individual here. I generally do either 33 for that half minute heat, 55 for when it doesn't quite need a minute, and 88, because after a buck thirty I should be stirring (if applicable).

We had an old microwave that had the button. It failed. I went and brought a new one home, and much to my wife's chagrin, as is in my nature, I failed to notice the lack of 30s button.

  • HFCS doesn't kill people, it's the cardiac diseases and cancers that do!

  • It works because you can focus more and don't be distracted by loud sound?
  • Back into every spot every time. That is something my wife has heard me say a billion times, and I've said it to many people. Back in to parking spots, it is always safer and easier to pull out forward. Backing in, you're already in the travelway, you and others are aware of one another's existence. I also think it's easier to maneuver into a space when your pivot enters last. Also helps you practice backing up, for situations where you may need it.

Granted, all of this came from driving ambulances, where the lesson was, no matter how steep and windy the driveway, backing in it with an empty box is always easier than backing out with a patient in the back.

I will concede there are exceptions, anyone can feel free to list them.

Furthermore, I've seen some municipalities institute back in angled spaces on roadways, and they are absolutely the best. Anytime a road has non-parallel parking spaces, they should be back-in spaces.

  • How many goddamn wars over this do we need
  • Qatar. We sell them to Qatar.

  • So I got fired for threatening to report them for withholding employee checks. They had a bunch of 15-19 year olds closing one night, maybe five or six of us, and one of the ice cream freezers got turned off. Someone's honest mistake, a bunch of ice cream melted, sucked, but they said okay, we're just going to withhold all your paychecks, and I said fuck no you're not, and proceeded to threaten reporting. In the end, me and my coworkers all got our $27 paychecks, but I lost my job. I am by no means a hero, was just a little belligerent as a kid, and it felt like a good opportunity to really dial in the belligerence.

  • Put a button for $1 and I'll hit it all day. And I know that ain't the person behind the register deciding, but if I get ice cream for my family and it costs 35 fucking dollars because that's how much fucking things cost these days, I'm not throwing you 15-25% in tip, let's be realistic. Put a $1, $2 option and I honestly think you'll have more luck.

Not to old man this shit, but I scooped ice cream at a restaurant/ice cream place for 5.25 back in 2004. You know how I earned tips? I played a game with customers, let me and the girl I'm working with guess questions about your life and we will give you a free size upgrade. People frequently played along, we had fun, fucked over the owners a bit (they sucked), it was really a win/win.

    I was eventually fired.

  • My issue is the automatic 15-20-25. I go to a deli, they make me four sandwiches, I want to throw you a couple bucks, not fucking 10.

  • Still saying sweet things to each other after all these years...
  • Yeah, it drives me nuts because that's obviously what it is. MTV went to shit when they introduced commercials. Anytime you're selling shit to the masses, God forbid you alienate a group of people because you said the word cunt.

I'll go one step further and say fuck PG-13 ratings. If you take an R concept and make it PG-13, I know it's going to be shit.

  • Eat shit Spotify.
  • Yeah, the only time I've ever heard the difference in audio quality between flac and 320mp3 is when I've been trying to sample parts of songs in Ableton, adjusting the bpm and doing some warping, and you get artifacts. When I listen to music, I have a nice system at home, and I cannot tell the difference. And maybe it's me, but beyond 20khz basically doesn't exist.

  • My experience so far on Lemmy.

A technical disaster, but sure, I'll keep coming back. Can't wait to reminisce about the days when it was a technical disaster, though.

Also, posted from my PC, because doing anything on Jerboa has proven impossible.
