You are awesome! It's crazy to have such a great app for something like lemmy, really not something you expect or at all take for granted. It's so cool that you managed to keep it so similar to the reddit version, it's very nice to feel at home with it after using it for reddit for years.
Thanks for all your work LJ, it's clear the value we get from having you be able to dedicate so much time to working on Sync. Love seeing so much improvement to an already great app.
I'm especially happy for the PipedLinkBot feature and profile overview.
Edit: now that the update has shown up on my end and I've tried the new features, I'd like to add that I slightly misunderstood what the PipedLinkBot would do, any chance we could have an option for those comments to be collapsed by default instead of hidden?
Ugh, this update is so good. This app is so good. Even if Lemmy continues to lose users and content, I love opening this app because of how good it feels to navigate through it.
I've noticed since updating this morning that clicking images (not sure what it's officially called, the Image Preview? when you click an image post without loading the post comments) frequently loads a blank screen. Only clicking back and then on the image again gets it to load properly.
Just downloaded the update and can confirm that fixed the issue. Your turn around time continues to amaze me. I work in a corporate environment where we have to write user stories, discuss them in backlog grooming, do sprint planning, develop, test, go through a Change Advisory Board approval, do release planning, then deployment.
The fact that I can just comment in one of your threads about something weird I'm seeing and then you fix it in less than a day is nothing short of astonishing. You rock!
I didn't even know peeking was a thing until you mentioned it. Oddly enough, that works fine. Tapping the thumbnail gets a blank screen. Holding gets it to load.
Same here. I just click the image from my frontpage and it just loads to a black screen. If I hold down on the image it will pop up in the full screen preview though.
I'm on small cards.
I have the same issue, hard to take a picture of a blank screen so I'll try and be specific with steps to reproduce
I'm using small cards. Click on an image on the right side of a small card
Expected result the image opens up, I can swipe to close it.
Actual result screen is black sometimes with a loading icon. It stays this way indefinitely. Closing the image and clicking it again let's it display as expected
This scenario has happened to me, too, so many times and not just in this update.
I get the black screen so I wait between 1 and 10 seconds for it to load.
Give up and press back.
Immediately tap the thumbnail again, and then the image instantly appears.
I wait a random number of seconds each time, so it'd be a really funny coincidence if the image finished loading exactly when I give up every time.
I do have slow cell service in certain locations, so sometimes the image is just slow to load, I'm sure. But the timing of the image finally appearing in step 3 above is too precise to be a coincidence the number of times it's happened.
Update 1
Edit: since writing this comment, every image I've tapped gives the black loading screen and I haven't waited even 1 second before tapping back and tapping the thumbnail again, and then the image immediately loads.
Update 2
I turned off image preloading, cleared cache, and did some testing. It's a good time to test since I currently have poor cell service:
I repeated the same basic steps: tapping a thumbnail, tapping Back as fast as I can, then tapping the thumbnail again. A couple times this immediately displayed the images, but other times I got the black screen again. I think it's based on file size.
I performed the above "Back and re-tap the thumbnail" loop up to 6 times, and when the image still didn't load, I waited 20 seconds on the black screen to see if it would eventually load. It never did. But then I would perform one more quick Back and re-tap and it would load.
This is what I think it happening: the image finishes loading eventually, but the loading screen never gets the "image downloaded" event and never updates to show the image. Then trying again loads it from cache.
If pre-loading is on, and you have fast internet you might never see this behavior. Images will be cached as fast as you can scroll. Maybe you could test this by uploading a truly enormous image, clearing cache, and using only cell service in your basement or something.
How does Sync have anything to do with Blocks? I read issue #425. The initial report says "Open the community. Click the block button. Community is now in the list of blocked communities."
That block button has always been a server-side block recorded on the instance itself, right? So I'm assuming the submitter means they checked the list of blocks on their instance's website.
And then you replied that you fixed it. How is this possible?
If you use the spoiler tag on a comment and then click on the spoiler to un-hide it, clicking edit will remove the spoiler tag code for the stuff that was originally marked. The " >! ! < " disappears in the editing page is what I mean.
But if you never un-hide it, you can click edit on your comment and it will show the ">! !< " still there.
My app crashes immediately upon opening, after the splash screen but before loading any posts. I've tried restarting my phone. Haven't tried clearing the app's cache because I don't want to relogin and also I shouldn't be on lemmy during work anyway lol.
Running Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra with Android 13 and One UI 5.1. I have sync ultra.
Edit: Clearing data worked until I restored my settings.
Clearing the app data didn't work either. It allowed me to launch the app and browse anonymously. I was even able to log in and browse, but when I restored my settings from the cloud backup the app crashed and now it's back to crashing upon open.
Side note: the restore purchases button on the setup screen did not work, but the button in the "Get Ultra" page did.
I see "#### New" instead of "New" in bold characters in the previews before I click on the post. The text accompanying the title is not formatted, it's the raw markdown input.
