What are you playing this weekend? 2024-09-27

Finished Greedfall!

I really liked the game. The narrative, the quests, the world, all are very good. Combat, while not great, isn't bad either. Excited about Greedfall 2 now.

Dropped Earthlock. The game was good, but for some reason I just lost interest. Worth checking out if you are a JRPG fan.

Played and finished Jenny LeClue - Detectivu. It's a 2D narrative mystery game. Really enjoyed it. Story was good, gameplay was really fun. Only downside, the game didn't finish. It's to be continue. Though, apparently the sequel is in development, so hopefully we will learn about it soon.

Started The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom and loving every minute of it. Not going to say much about it here, since it's just released and many people here would want to experience it themselves, but if you have any questions, you can ask them here.

What about all of you? What have you been playing?

  • I'm stepping away from Super Smash Bros because now I'm literally just grinding gold extremely slowly to buy the last ~60 odd spirits I'm missing, which are all just DLC spirits. It's not fun that way.

Bought Echoes of Wisdom, but my son's been playing it and I probably won't tackle it myself any time soon.

Instead I bought FFVII since it was on discount and I'd never played it before. I'm slightly disappointed after hearing it being hyped for 20 years - but it's still enjoyable enough to carry on with.

  • Finished Ace Attorney Investigations 2: Prosecutor's Gambit (part of Ace Attorney Investigations Collection)!

This game deserves all the praise it gets. Every single case is great, there's some fantastic connecting and foreshadowing between them, plenty of fun callbacks and references to older games, and excellent character development for the cast members - I still can't believe they got me to like Eustace and Gavelle by the end.

Not much more to add here - this is a must-play for everyone who enjoys this series.

    Finished Cat Quest III!

The developers clearly tried to go with the "quality over quantity" direction in this one - the world is smaller, there's far less quests and dungeons to explore, but on the other hand they're far more diverse and interesting than the ones in the previous games.

The game is also very open - after you pick up the boat (~5min into the game) can travel anywhere in the map. Which is both good and bad, the exploration is more fun than ever but it's also easy to get lost or end up in areas where you're too weak to explore, and I definitely miss some of the QOL features from the previous games like recommended levels for dungeons and quests.

In the end, I think it is the best game in the trilogy, but it's also the hardest one to get into - I'd definitely recommend Cat Quest 2 over this one for more casual gamers.

    Playing Ginka!

A new VN I picked up recently. It's a mix of slice-of-slice and supernatural mystery, and has you try to figure out the disappearance of the MC's childhood friend Ginka, who vanished 5 years prior to the game but suddenly reappears without memories and looking exactly the same she did all that time ago.

I'm really liking the pacing on this one, and Ginka is adorable. Reached a major twist, and I'm very curious where the story will go from here.

    Spoilers

To be more accurate, BOTH Ginkas are adorable.

Playing The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom!

Wasn't expecting to get my physical copy on launch day in South America, so when it arrived I could not resist booting this one up and playing for a couple hours. 😆 Ended up finishing the first "dungeon" and so far I'm loving it.

But since I think I'm close to the end on Ginka I'll try to finish that one first so I can focus properly on Zelda.

  • A buddy and I just finished Space Marine 2, it was fantastic, but way too short. I'd still recommend it if you're a big 40k fan tho.

I'm just finishing up the last couple bosses in Core Keeper with the same buddy, then I'm finally going to finish Ghost of Tsushima. The trailer for the new one got me really hype and motivated to dive back into it after putting it down for a while.

Also just picked up Total War: Warhammer II last weekend, so I've been playing a bit of that on and off. It's my first grand strategy game, so it's a little overwhelming, but I'm enjoying it so far.

    • I loved the first Space Marine, so looking forward to Space Marine 2. Will probably be playing solo though, like the first one, so not in any hurry to get to it.

I am also thinking about finishing Ghost of Tsushima due to the sequel, I played about half of it (maybe less) but then my PS+ Extra expired, will have to buy the game now. I have couple of games I want to play before that, like Legend of Zelda that I just started, but want to get to GoT soon.

Total War games are on my wishlist, but haven't gotten around to playing any of them. Do keep us updated how you are liking it.

  • I'll be playing The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of the Wisdom full time for the foreseeable future. Also loving it!

This past week I also did a whole Arcade playthrough of TMNT: Shredder's Revenge co-op online with my cousin. Our first time playing SNES ever was TMNT: Turtles in Time together back in the day, so this was really cool. They released the new DLC after our playthrough, so I tested it but I'll have to come back after Echoes.

I had also been playing TLoZ: Tears of the Kingdom while waiting for Echoes. I'll eventually get back to it and hopefully finish the story before Switch 2 comes out 😅

  • Skullgirls/Under Night In-Birth II [Sys:Celes]/Them's Fightin' Herds - clip of the week

    Splatoon 3 - 🦀

Mahjong Soul/Riichi City - good news and bad news

    Mega Knockdown - nice

    • Congratulations on winning the Mega Knockdown league!

That Skullgirls fight was brutal. Nice work.
