if first time dad, just focus on caring for the mother for the first few months, newborns only have a few needs, and not much else, they can't even see properly.
Load it up from the top with milk, clean it from the bottom with clean nappies, done.

I eventually began to wash everyone’s clothes together, with Dreft to save time and electricity. It made my life easier.
