Facebook opens its Android-based Quest operating system to other VR device makers – OSnews

My current requirements for a vr headset now: Not Meta/Facebook Ability to work with Steam VR Zero-setup (inside out tracking)

If they still phone home to Facebook, no thanks.

The OS is the worst part of the Quest line. The hardware is pretty cool but software completely removes it from consideration for me.

So it the plan to go with the Google or Microsoft’s model?

Will third parties be able to customize whatever they want, like with Android, or is the user experience going to be strictly controlled, like with Windows?

This is just a play because Google is releasing Android XR soon
