New Porsche Taycan Buries The Tesla Model S Plaid With 7:07 Ring Lap Record
A 'pre-series' Porsche Taycan rounded the ring in just 7:07.55, handily beating the Tesla Model S Plaid's old electric sedan record of 7:25.231.

A 'pre-series Taycan' lapped the ring in just 7:07.55. This makes it the fastest electric Porsche to ever turn a wheel in anger around the legendary track. It has also buried the Tesla Model S Plaid's previous record-holding 7:25.231 time by 17.681 seconds.
The new top-dog Taycan's time is 26 seconds faster than the current Taycan Turbo S, and within spitting distance of the Rimac Nevera's time of 7:05.298. The Porsche did receive minor modifications to make it safer and more trackable. Racing bucket seats and a roll cage were installed.
It's unclear if a new battery has been installed in this trim, but a change in cell chemistry or design to better support long bursts of high current would be necessary if the Taycan Turbo S' pack isn't cutting it.

With ~7+ minute times being common on Nurburgring, its less important for consistency given how long it is. Its definitely a bigger deal on shorter tracks like Laguna Seca, where many vehicles have a 1:40 lap time or less. (One lap is near meaningless on Laguna Seca given how short it is).
Still, long-term endurance is a big deal. You don't want to have an overheated brake system just 10 minutes or even 30 minutes into a track day. High quality across the entire system (suspension, brakes, drivetrain) is needed on the ring.
I'd still rather have any Porsche from before I was born converted to electric. Has to have the round lights but other than that any.
Does the 944 count? Technically, its lights are round when popped up. 😈
Yeah I'd take that if I could afford it. The dream would be a 356, and I prefer the rounder ones like 911 912 930 also (iirc), but as long as it doesn't have too many sharp edges. There are also versions of ones I'm not really into that I like and vice versa. I definitely prefer the older ones even if they look a bit janky by modern standards. Something about old cars converted to electric just does it for me. I don't need all the modern electronic extras apart from that of the conversion as my phone will do the rest better or more to my liking. Just good old fashion stuff that works with a motor retrofit in place of the engine, now useless gas related components removed, and batteries wherever they can be safely hidden.
I bet they can demolish the PT cruiser too.
I'm not sure if you're joking or not but I highly doubt either car would even come close. The PT Cruiser is the pinnacle of automotive engineering. No other car has been or will be as fast and none will ever be as stylish either.
