Requesting control of c/gamedev
The current mod of c/gamedev hasn't been publicly active just under a year. I tried messaging them months ago about joining, and more recently about taking it over if they weren't interested in trying to develop it. So now I'm asking here, with the assumption that they're just not that into it.
Figured I'd ask now in case you wanted to look into the person making such a request. If granted I'd probably start putting a little work into it the weekend after this one.

Requesting c/Bangladesh, it has no mods currently
I want to create a space for r/Bangladesh. The government in the country has shut down the internet and I want to make decentralized options more accessible for them. I plan to see if the moderators want to join here too. If a good community forms, I am happy to hand off the moderator role.

pages.dev link spamming
There are about 6 pages.dev domains spamming lemmy.world communities
The volume is definitely inorganic, and is across a wide range of communities
pages.dev is Cloudflare's site hosting which can be used for free - there are likely many legitimate sites that use that domain, but the current flood is suspicious
chronicleresolve.pages.dev
thefreedomproject.pages.dev
versarch.pages.dev
dailypulse.pages.dev
newssphere-6fu.pages.dev
iniko.pages.dev

Couldn't post thread until removing imgbb.co (third-party/external image host) embed from post body
I promise I searched first!
Community: [email protected]
Attempted to post from the website and a mobile app. To test, successfully posted a text post and subsequently the same post with the image uploaded directly to Lemmy.
Guessing some spammer or worse was abusing the featureโฆ did think image proxying was coming which might helpโฆ
If this was intended behavior, hope someone can link relevant documentation and perhaps itโll be more easily found by others in the future. (Used lots of keywords in the title for that purpose!)

Everyone is getting banned for "URL Blacklist"?
What's going on? Everyone interacting with Lemmy world seems to be getting banned for "URL Blacklist" and lots of comments are being "Removed by mod". Communities are being removed also.
-
old.lemmy.world comments are broken
You can see content, but comment sections all say "there doesnt seem to be anything here."
This behavior is not the same on old.lemmy.dbzer0.com.

Sorting algorithm problem. I made three posts in my community today, after 50 minutes, two of them showed up at the top of the page while the last one is stuck under a 6-day-old post even though...
...it has the same amount of upvotes as one of the posts I made today.
What's the issue here? Why won't the last post show up at or near the top of the page?
*The posts I made today are marked by green rounded squares

Would Lemmy.World admins consider changing how the featured community spotlight, and trending communities work?
So since I joined in early May, that Raj zone community or whatever its called was the highlighted community. That ran for about 2 months that I know of. It's a very active and popular community.
Today I see it's finally changed. Now it's comic strips. Which ALSO looks like an active community. So my theory is, and I may be wrong, but my theory is that these spotlights drive huge amounts of traffic. Which is great......but it's spread so thin. One community for 2 months is waaaay too long.
What if it became the "community of the day"? And maybe it could focus on smaller, lesser known communities. And if that days community ISN'T for you personally, just wait until tomorrow.
And then there's the trending section. More often than not, I see a community in the trending section, click it, and theres zero posts. One time I even saw zero posts, and moderator locked so only moderators can make posts.....which they hadn't.
So whats the point of saying they're trending, if theres zero to little activity? I say to become a trending community, you should have minimum 10 posts in the past 30 days, and 30 comments the past 30 days.
So, site admins, can we make this happen? New community spotlight everyday, maybe it's a dead community, and a trending community section which has been trending lately.
And as I think of this, I just realized the trending communities will only be the same most popular ones. So maybe trending communities can only appear once per month?

Unfeaturing a post is not federating correctly
I'm a mod of [email protected], although my user is on discuss.tchncs.de. I mainly asked to be made a mod to remove an old sticky post, but I've seen it come back after unfeaturing it a couple of times. Today I tried to unfeature it again, about an hour ago. Currently it does not show up as featured on my instance, but it still does on lemmy.world. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Here is the post in question on each instance:

Lemmy cookie expiring and forgetting everything?
Posted this to AskLemmy (https://lemmy.world/post/17088629), but thought it worth posting here:
I use old.lemmy.world as my interface and I've noticed that roughly every month I'm:
- Forcibly logged out and have to do the re-auth dance for no apparent reason.
- Everything I've set in Settings is forgotten: Default Listing reverts to All, Default Post Sort reverts to Hot, and so on.
My browser is set to retain cookies and such, so it's not PEBKAC/PICNIC. Why is Lemmy doing a nuke-from-low-orbit every month (roughly) despite me using it as recently as the day before? Why aren't my preferences being retained between logins?
I suspect the recent update (https://mastodon.world/@LemmyWorld/112706805419064266) explains the latest event, but the questions still stand.

What's changed in the Alexandrite interface?
If I bring up things like mail or a post in a new tab, I have to go into Login/Manage Accounts and choose my account to do anything in that tab.

We have GOT to do something about these bots....
Ok, so I've been here almost two months now. And I'm a frequent commenter. What I have noticed is that almost every single comment I make gets exactly 1 downvote. Regardless of where, regardless of content. Doesn't matter what I say. I could say "Puppies are snuggly!" and it would get one downvote.
This leads me to believe there's a bot (or maybe a series of bots) who go around and make sure everything gets downvotes. I don't see the point of that.
Look, sometimes I make comments that people ACTUALLY don't agree with. I made a joke comment about trump and biden being young unheard of up and comers in the political world that haven't reached drinking age yet. I thought it was funny, but last I checked it had more downvotes than upvotes. Ok, fair enough. That joke bombed. I'll take the L on that one.
But to downvote everything across the board? It's hard to tell when my material is just barely landing, or just barely not landing........as opposed to now assuming the downvote is a bot and I can't trust the negitive reaction.
So, maybe this post could serve as a brainstorm session for how to combat this very minor problem. I'm not a techie with any knowledge of how bots operate, let alone how to stop them. But I'm sure others on this forum do. So lets hash this thing out!

Unable to post
I'm unable to post with my .world account, because it throws a 401 error. I'm able to vote on posts and comments just fine.
It happens with both Connect and Jerboa. I've tried logging out and back in with Jerboa, but it doesn't help.
This happened about a week ago too; I waited a few days and I was eventually able to post again.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

Is this still freedom of speech or it crosses into hate?
lemmy.world Hindu Sluts Domination - Lemmy.WorldHindu women have always worshiped big circumcised muslim dicks, this community is a place for posting photos and videos about muslim men dominating hindu sluts.
Honest question about the acceptance lines, not trying to trigger a response
Personally, I feel this is misogynistic and derogatory. But maybe I'm the one out of line
Btw, is there some other way to flag a whole community to the mods?

Request to mod [email protected]
Hi :)
All mods on [email protected] are inactive, and it'd be useful going forward if we could get an active mod. I'm on a different instance, obviously, but I don't mind doing it. If you'd rather make someone with an account on this instance mod that's fine and I'll ask if there are any volunteers.
Is that possible?

Does Proton count as a temporary email?
I have a friend who is trying to set up an account on Lemmy, but they don't like to use their real email, so they use aliases from Proton. Are such aliases allowed for making accounts on Lemmy.World?

What are the criteria for trending communities?
So I do NOT understand what makes a community trend. I thought I'd use it to discover communities I didn't even know I wanted. Instead, I've found a few communities I have no interest in, and thats fine. Not all communities are going to cater to everybodies tastes.
But the real puzzler for me, is when I click a trending community, and theres 2 subsubscribers, 0 posts ever. What exactly qualifies that as a trending communities???
I don't know if everybody sees the same trending communities, but if you do, theres one right now with a jumbled bunch of letters as the community name, no posts, 2 subscribers And the sidebar is a bunch of imdb links.......
What am I supposed to do with that information? Why is THAT trending??? Is this a case of mods of that community (all one of them) are also the developers of Lemmy, so they program it that way? Or is this some algorithm thing that I don't get???
What is going on here?

Slur filter censoring the string "the app" (without a space in between)
So, not sure if I am completely off base here, but I had this odd thing happen today where I couldn't post an URL because whenever I did, part of it would be replaced with the text removed. You can see what I am talking about in the screenshot, and I am linking my comment below. Another commenter replied saying it was likely something related to a slur filter in my instance, so I am coming here for help to understand the issue. Sorry if this is completely wrong, I am not very well versed in the workings of the fediverse and different instance implementations. Here's the comment:

EDIT: if it matters, I am using the Boost for Lemmy android client

Analytics Tools for Community Mods
Hi,
There are summary statistics shared in the bottom of the sidebar.
Is there any way for moderators to access this data on a temporal basis (e.g. week by week or month by month).
This would be very helpful in analyzing community dynamics and increasing community popularity.
Cheers,
Agent Karyo

The lemmy.ml Problem
Dear Admins and Users of lemmy.world,
I am writing to express my concerns about the impact of lemmy.ml on our community. It has come to my attention that lemmy.ml frequently disseminates propaganda and engages in historical revisionism. Moreover, there have been instances where their admin privileges were used to suppress dissenting views, reminiscent of the already defederated lemmygrad instance.
While personal blocking of lemmy.ml is an option, it does not address the broader issue of new users potentially being influenced by misleading content. It is crucial that we protect our users from a continuous stream of biased information.
To illustrate these concerns, I have provided a link to a detailed post on the Fediverse that documents these issues comprehensively [Here].
Given these points, I urge the admins to consider a defederation from lemmy.ml. If their users wish to remain part of Lemmy.ml, that is entirely acceptable, but we should take steps to prevent the propagation of harmful misinformation, especially in their comment sections.
Thank you for your consideration.

Lemmy.World acts different on my tablet than it does on my cell phone.
I like Lemmy.World. I'd like you use old.lemmy.world as my default experience.
On my cellphone, I just click it in the sidebar. Done.
On my tablet, I click it. It just displays a blank white page. Refreshing does not help. If I type in old.Lemmy.World, I get the old ui loaded, but I'm logged out, and it will not allow me to log in. It accepts the log in as a correct username/password, but then reloads the old ui with me still logged out.

Can't create community
I have tried to create a community on multiple browsers, devices and from multiple different internet connections (no vpn) and have not received an error.
The community name is available and Iโve tried with/without images and the description field.
Could an admin please message me so I can get the community created? Thanks

Recent spam from discuss.online
Are folks aware of this issue? Is de-federation being discussed or is it not that bad yet? Everything I've seen as a mod and as a user is just BS about "investment opportunities". But the volume of these comments is going waaay up these past couple days.

Posts aren't forwarding to lemmy.world communities
Hi, for at least 7 days, posts created on Mastodon on the wetdry.world server that mention the communities @[email protected] and @[email protected] have not been forwarding correctly.
The server does not restrict access to lemmy.world at all, mastodon.world is marked as limited but that doesn't apply to Lemmy.
I'm posting from the @[email protected] and @[email protected] accounts and they always have the handle for the respective Lemmy community at the bottom of our posts.
Thanks in advance for the support!

automatically clean up tracking and other tags in posted urls
Example (spam post containing an amazon affiliate link, post hopefully deleted by now but I assume mods/admins can see it): https://lemmy.world/post/15846936
Also there are tons of links people post legitimately but have tracking parameters, gclid=this, fbclid=that, etc. Those can be cleaned up too.
By editing out these parameters automatically when the link is posted, people's privacy can be protected and the incentive to post affiliate spam can be decreased.
It could be a server config parameter and/or put into the posting UI: "your post contains [link] with flagged parameters, choose between a) post cleaned up version (shown), or b) post link without changes (may go into moderation queue depending on community settings)."

Unread Count Says 1, While Inbox is Empty
I mainly use the Mlem app, and today I got a notification that I had one new inbox item. When I checked my inbox, I saw that it was empty.
Before I submitted a big report, I wanted to see what happened on the lemmy.world website. As shown in the attached screenshot, it too shows one unread item, but nothing in the inbox.
So Iโm led to believe this is an issue with the server. And if not, then at least I have done my due diligence before reporting this to the Lemmy devs.
In either case, is there anybody here who could help me get this resolved; or at least pointed in the right direction?
Thank you!

Propose defederation?
It seems like every user on annihilation.social is a racist idiot, and indeed seems to be the entire purpose of that instance. Who do we talk to about starting a discussion on defederation so that they can't use lemmy.world to spread their vile hatred?
For example, one is referencing the Protocols of the Elders of Zion like it's a true thing and the other is talking about how God hates race mixing.

Requesting popculture community
The only mod on [email protected] is a banned user. I'd like to start posting on this community but I'm hesitant to use an unmoderated community. Can I be made a moderator?
On a side note, the banned user is still listed as a mod on a number of communities. Are banned users supposed to be removed as moderators or is there no policy on that? And what happens if a community is unmoderated on Lemmy?

Light/Dark theme auto switching Firefox
Hey All
I am running Firefox on pop!_OS and have an extension that switches my themes between light and dark. It works really well and have set all my apps to follow system theme. I am running Firefox and it does switch well and my Lemmy setting is set to follow the browser. It was working well for a long time, but the last two months I have noticed that lemmy does not auto switch the theme. Is there something I can do on my end?

Why does deleting a post not actually delete it?
I'm still new to how lemmy works exactly but why does trying to delete a post not actually remove it? It's still fully viewable so are you not able to delete posts on here at all? I'm a bit confused.

Comments don't load?
Lately I'm seeing this more and more where posts have comments that will refuse to load. It seems like the issue is getting progressively worse. Right now, I'm using the Alexandrite front end but the default has the same issue where comments don't load.

Do we have a setting to block posts that contain keywords yet?
Hi!
I know that this question was asked several months ago, and the response was that there wasn't a setting for it. Has a setting that blocks posts with keywords been implemented since?
Thanks in advance!
