How do I change the font for the lemmy.world default interface on a browser?
I use Firefox and while on the phone I use different apps and set my preferred font, I am not able to find the place to change the font for the web interface.
The default font appears very blurry to me compared to other websites.

Witch hunting is going to quickly destroy Lemmy, and prevent it from flourishing
I made a post earlier this week, which was met with an aggressive hostile witch hunter who apparently has nothing better to do then just try to insinuate flaming / witch hunting towards me because they don't like what they're reading.

This is possibly the third time Iβve dealt with a super, aggressively toxic person who comes in and writes a huge, massively long off-topic rant on one of my postsβ¦ and whatβs the entire basis of it? Witch hunting. Not responding to the topic or the discussion post, just writing a big wall-length post of βthis person bad, pls upvote and shameβ. He alleges Iβve used AI to generate my posts or some of my writing, which is absurd and ridiculous, everything I say is written by me, an actual human like tf? But even if he suspected it, why does he have to go on a huge, massive rant and throw it out there, like what does this add to the community?
We have to really think about how we want our community to act going forward, because this raises a huge concern. AI is not going anywhere, itβs the future of humanity basically. Students are using it in college or high school, many getting accused falseley of using it. So having people witch hunt like the Salem witch trials βHES AN AI!β on posts is just absurd, itβs baffling. But more importantly, the toxicity. This is what inevitably killed reddit too. Someone with an ego so incredibly fragile they had to resort to reviewing someoneβs entire post history, and then comment that in a post just toβ¦ make them feel bad? Shame them? like seriously? It undermines the entire purpose of Lemmy or any other discussion board. To discuss things. They canβt be bothered to actually discuss the point, they just resort to insults. Unbelievable.

Copy-pasting images to Lemmy in Firefox converts jpeg to png. Is this a Lemmy bug?
I just made a post copy-pasting images from another tab. All jpegs became pngs, for example 1.3MB became 6.4MB.
If I save the image first, then upload to Lemmy, it stays as a jpeg. What causes the pointless converting when copy-pasting? Can it be stopped from happening?

Questions about anonymity on lemmy.world servers
I'm trying to understand how safe it is to use an account on lemmy.world to post dissenting opinions regarding the U.S. government. I have three questions:
- If a subpoena is issued for IP records for a user or their comments, will all historical IP data be available to provide?
- Is there a time limit on how long IP records are kept?
- When a user deletes their account on lemmy.world, are their comments and/or IP records also deleted?
Asking for a friend...

Lemmy world is slow
I have moved instances since Lemmy world is taking way too long to load pages and the thumbnails and images are even more delayed. I am making this post in case the admins are not aware. But my problem was solved by moving.

How are trending communities calculated?
Clicking on the first two trending communities revealed a single post and a few comments. What makes it being listed as "trending"? or does it also just show new communities?

A problem repeatedly occurred on https://lemmy.world on iPhone Safari
I generally use Lemmy through my phone browser: safari on iPhone. Starting a few weeks ago. I can no longer get to the primary url. When I try, the progress bar stops partway through, I get a long delay and eventually see βa problem repeatedly occurred on https://lemmy.worldβ.
I assumed there was some sort of update and was patient but it doesnβt appear to be getting fixed
As a workaround, Iβve been using https://old.lemmy.world
Is this a known problem or can someone help look into this?

Why is my post hidden from lemmy.world instance?
I thought it's weird that I can see my post in my instance, but I can't see it in the lemmy.world instance community page.
My other posts can show up: https://feddit.org/post/4050499
What is happening?

Sort by "Most Viewed?"
Would it be possible to have that added as a method of sorting posts on Lemmy? Instead of including votes, or just the most recent comments, "Active" and "Hot" could also include simply what's being looked at even if nobody is actually interacting with it in any other way. Actually kinda baffled why this is already a thing on SM.
Also I wasn't sure where to really post this, which is why it's here.

Request to moderate /c/animal_crossing
Hi, could I request to moderate the animal_crossing community? The admin doesn't seem to be active, I sent a message 3 weeks ago and it got no response.
Thank you!

(answered) Is it possible to hide individual posts?
Without having to block the user or community.
If so, how? If not, is it a planned feature?

How can I unmod a user?
Hello, I need to remove a user from the moderation of my community, but I can't find a button to do this. I went to a post they made, clicked on the three dots, and the only options I got are: create report, block user, lock and feature in community.

Upgrade Lemmy.world to 0.19.5
Just wondering when do you think it'll be possible to upgrade Lemmy.world to 0.19.5. Just curious since I know that 0.19.5 comes with many nice improvements including the ability to delete your own image uploads. As well as many bug fixes.

Is it possible to unblock a VPN dedicated IP?
Seems like my VPN has been targeted for blocking by this instance which I appreciate is a security thing and prevents BS accounts from taking over the platform.
However I hold a dedicated IP with said VPN, so is it possible to unblock just my dedicated IP?

broken images
Hello,
Using the default web UI, sometimes post images don't load, both for local and federated posts.
One example: https://lemmy.world/post/20205083
Looking at the console, the requests to both the thumbnail and the main image fail with a 500: https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/45cab39c-d212-4581-bb8f-f9276e631531.gif?format=webp&thumbnail=256 https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/45cab39c-d212-4581-bb8f-f9276e631531.gif?format=webp
The response body for both contains:
{"code":"panic","msg":"Panic in blocking operation"}
Removing both parameters,
format
andthumbnail
, returns the correct media.Am I doing something wrong?

Not being able to see any content in a community
Hey there.
So the most recent issue I've experienced has been being unable to see any (new or old) posts on [email protected]. It's a community that I started, in case that somehow affects anything. I'm accessing Lemmy via Edge browser with ad-blocker disabled for Lemmy.World.
I'm very puzzled as to why I haven't been able to see anything for about a week. I checked again today to see if it was a view filter issue. So I tried all of the view filters for the community and nothing changed. I even opened up community settings to see if something had become activated/deactivated. There seems to be nothing related.
So what's going on and how could I resolve this issue?

Cannot stay logged in on desktop
Since a few weeks ago, Lemmy.world will always log me out when I leave it, and I cannot find a "stay logged-in" tick-box anywhere in the settings. Is this a bug or a feature or perhaps a "me-problem"?
Happens with Firefox and Vivaldi on Linux, if that matters. Emptying cache/cookies did not help. Mobile app is fine.
Thanks for any hint!
ETA, thanks to @[email protected], there is a temporary workaround to this: > I could set the lemmy.world cookie to βlaxβ using a cookie manager extension. Now it seems to work, both with F5 and when I leave Firefox.

Fallout New Vegas Community
Hello, I was wondering if I could be added as a moderator to the Fallout New Vegas community. The only original mod, Lukjam, appears to have been inactive for the past year. I tried to reach out to them directly through DMs two weeks ago, but I have not heard back. I really want to make sure this community keeps going, but I think that will be difficult if there are no active moderators. Let me know if there is anything you need from me.

old.lemmy.world 503
old.lemmy.world has been very slow all day and is now 503'ing continuously, lemmy instance health doesn't seem to cover old.lemmy.world, only the main instance, which seems to be working fine.

Starting guide needs update
The link to https://browse.feddit.de/ is dead and should be updated to https://lemmyverse.net/communities.
Personally i think it would even make sense to link this from the main site sidebar. Not because it is a problem finding communities on other instances from within world, at least this should be the best instance to be able to, but as a function of being a "role model" for other instances.

Top level comments sometimes end up as a reply to another random comment
I'm not sure if this is a Lemmy issue, an instance issue or a Jerboa issue but occasionally when I hit the button to reply specifically to the main post and make a top-level comment, it instead replies to one of the already existing top level comments.
I don't know how long this has been happening; I only just now noticed it wasn't me accidentally clicking the wrong reply button when it happened twice in a row and I was making absolute sure I hit the right button the second time.

no downvoting for specific communities? - SOLVED
I've recently noticed that downvotes don't stick for the community [email protected].
Bug or design choice? Is there a work around? My account is with lemmy.world - do I need to log into a different instance to have full downvote capability?
SOLVED - they banned me for downvoting their fascist frogs

Political Memes Unfair Moderation Polict
Lemmy political Memes only seems to care about ignoring genocide and punishing those calling out uncivil accounts. Also more interested in banning those they don't like then locking posts due to reporting then actually moderating posts.
Mods log.
https://lemmy.world/modlog/1384
Examples of terrible removals and bans
And they leave up comments with baseless accusations

Unstickied post in c/[email protected] still stickied on world
Apparently the unsticking of this post in the [email protected] community did not federate and should be unstickied on world's end.
