Telegram is now a browser
  • Saw that today. Went to ton.org & got the impression it's all about the crpyto. I'd love to have bookmarks in telegram, though.

  • upgrade windows home to windows pro
  • I've just installed it on both devices. Thanks!

  • upgrade windows home to windows pro
  • I disabled antivirus, tried again, and was told W11 home was already permanently activated. No upgrade-to-pro option. Oh, well.

  • upgrade windows home to windows pro
  • Thanks. I've done the iTunes thing & find it cumbersome. Remote-sharing apps require that the OS permit remote sharing. W11 home version doesn't.

  • upgrade windows home to windows pro
  • Thanks. That works. Just looking for something a little less cumbersome.

  • upgrade windows home to windows pro
  • Thanks. Done that. Trying to do it without the cable.

  • upgrade windows home to windows pro
  • I tried MAS & got this error msg. Maybe I'll go offline, turn off antivirus, & try again. If I understand correctly, no remote-control apps will work unless that's enabled in Windows.

  • upgrade windows home to windows pro
  • Yes. I've used all of them, back to XP, & before that, MS-DOS. I bought a new computer a couple of years ago, & W11 came with it.

  • upgrade windows home to windows pro
  • One of these days... I like my apps. I understand there aren't as many available for Linux.

  • JSTOR downloads
  • Found it. https://sci-hub.se/ Get link from JSTOR, then paste it into sci-hub. Startpage/Google/Bing/Yahoo weren't any help. Yandex came through.

  • JSTOR downloads
  • I know.

  • The effects of unjustifiable hierarchies and asymmetrical violence
  • Maybe all hierarchies are unjustifiable.

  • Problem solved by DVDShrink. Thanks, everyone.

  • I'm sure you're more technically knowledgeable than I am b/c most people here are. But I tell you for sure though that my copying the contents of a DVD to PC using File Explorer resulted in an unplayable DVD twice. It's fixable. I'm bookmarking this in case I forget what a mess this causes and do it again. I'd be interested to know the result if you try it to prove me wrong.

  • I don't think I can rip until the data is again readable.

  • Everything is set to region 0. Tried the DLL file and got this, "Your input can't be opened: VLC is unable to open the MRL 'file:///D:/VIDEO_TS/VTS_01_1.VOB'. Check the log for details." Checked VLC using other files, and it's fine.

  • It's silver. I've got 3 optical drives and no standard DVD player.

  • Help with DVD problem, please.
  • Thanks. No dots present.

  • Help with DVD problem, please.
  • FWIW, the same thing happened a couple of years ago with a more contemporary DVD. At the time, I didn't know I couldn't just copy it. After using Windows copy function on it, I couldn't play it. I found a program called BurnAware that fixed and ripped it. BurnAware isn't able to recover this disc.

  • Help with DVD problem, please.
  • Just tried it and got "Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:ILLEGAL MODE FOR THIS TRACK'..."

    Is this true?

Hello, smart people. Filling out an online form to volunteer for something, Firefox's Facebook-fence icon appeared on the email field. Confused, I clicked on its question mark. On the next page, Mozilla wanted to sell me Firefox relay for $7/mo. (That's their VPN + email masking + phone masking.) I used my yandex.ru email address instead for $0. Here's the question: is Facebook really able to track me because I've signed up to volunteer for Cornel West (setting aside the FB-Russia blockage issue)? Thanks.

CEO says COVID gave us bad habits, prescribes unemployment of 40-50%

Property developer and CEO Tim Gurner: "We need to see unemployment rise. Unemployment has to jump 40, 50 percent in my view. We need to see pain in the economy. We need to remind people that they work for the employer, not the other way around."

21st-century socialism requires attention to micro levels of social organization

braveneweurope.com Harriet Fraad, Richard D. Wolff - Twenty-First Century Socialism: What It Will Become and Why - Brave New Europe

    turn off comments?

Is it possible to turn off comments on a post? Thanks. ed: to clarify, I'd like to share 2 sites, one is ISW's interactive map and the other is to online antifa news from Crimea. I just want to put it out there without name calling. Mute isn't what I'm after.

    Communism in Japan

www.nytimes.com Can Shrinking Be Good for Japan? A Marxist Best Seller Makes the Case.

Kohei Saito says the country should seize this moment of demographic and economic challenge to reinvent itself through “degrowth communism.”

Can Shrinking Be Good for Japan? A Marxist Best Seller Makes the Case.

"Mr. Saito is not clear exactly what shape a world under degrowth communism would take, but he insists that it would be democratic and focused on expanding communal resources, reducing the wealth gap and removing incentives for excess consumption."

    When all else fails...

People of Maui can't depend on gov't. Fed, state, & local aren't coordinating well. FEMA's holding up aid b/c they need to specifically approve every kind. People are depending on each other. Even MSM cites mutual aid as the only thing operative at this time.

I'm still disappointed that SNW Klingons sound like a boy band.

They're supposed to sound like TNG Klingons. Everybody sang in the squeaky range. A variety of voices would have been nice. Ethan Peck's a baritone. More than one note of Spock's big number could have been there.

    Indicia of feudalism?

When you're in the process of applying for a job, and your prospective employer wants to know whether you're passionate about the work and how you're going to make/save them money or improve their bureaucratic standing, or both, is that analogous to a king requiring your love and your promise to battle on his behalf?
