QSPICE quick start videos
  • Yeah, modern is a bit of a stretch, the GUI is only modern relative to LTSpice. The syntax suggestion when typing looks useful, and maybe the C++/Verilog blocks would expand the parametrization capabilities. Right now I kinda cycle between LTSpice, PSpice for TI, and QUCS, and the latter two are the most powerful.

  • Stumptown Homestead
  • Haha I deal with the same thing with my GCP -- waiting 10 mins to warm-up, and then pulling a shot. Some extra warm-up time for this might be nice though, I'm wondering if it will be a noticeable difference.

  • Finally converted a gaggia classic by building a gaggiuino controller
  • That's really cool to see. I have a GCP and I haven't yet modified it, but I'm tempted to do this. I've cross-posted to /c/[email protected] :)

  • Finally converted a gaggia classic by building a gaggiuino controller

    cross-posted from: https://discuss.tchncs.de/post/179956

    > To get more into espresso i finally got a used gaggia classic and upgraded it with a replacement controller running the open source gaggiuino project. > > Fully with loadcell scales, pressure sensor, pid temperature control and a hand soldered all in one pcb. > > You can also use standard arduino style modules for most components but the pcb makes it much more compact and reliable. > > In this case the modifications are fully reversible in case a future owner wants to revert it back to stock. > > Works great and automates a lot of steps to be more consistent. Now i just need to practice the manual parts of making espresso ;) > > Note: this is not my project, i just documented the build process on my machine. > Maybe it helps someone to get an overview what goes into such a conversion and inspires more users to attempt it. > > The community is already pretty big and many also adapted the project for other machines. > > > > *Seems like the post was synchronized only after editing multiple times

    Stumptown Homestead
  • I haven't had Stumptown beans in forever, but they're great. I've had Hair Bender & Founder's Blend, both of which I would recommend. I haven't tried Homestead yet. Do you adjust the temperature of the water at all when dialing in lighter roasts? I've heard higher temps can lead to better extraction for those.

  • NIN - What If We Could? & The Way Out Is Through - Live in Holland 2013

Probably my favorite performance of the latter song, but I also appreciate this for the combination of both. Seeing The Fragile vinyl encouraged me to search for this again.

    It finally arrived!
  • Awesome! I love this album. What are your favorites on there? I have "The Way Out is Through" and "Just Like You Imagined" on repeat a bit too often...

  • Is it possible to relative link posts and comments on Lemmy?

Is it possible to have a relative link on Lemmy for posts and comments? I've been able to link to local communities with the /c/[email protected] notation, but when I look at the same post on two different instances, the ID in the URL is different, so I'm not sure how to link a relative path to a post (or to a comment).

List of Digital Design and Verification links for beginners and veterans (backup from /r/FPGA)
  • Thanks for copying over this list! I'll have to share this with a friend who is starting to work with FPGAs.

  • Vegan Tiramisu Cheesecake
  • Yes! How'd you make the lady fingers? I had used this recipe in the past, the hardest part (after getting that desired texture of the meringue) was piping the mixture onto the baking sheet. Getting them consistent was difficult. I might have to get a mold for next time.

  • Vegan Tiramisu Cheesecake
  • Here is the recipe for reference: tiramisu cheesecake. I've also made the regular tiramisu recipe and it was really good.

  • Vegan Tiramisu Cheesecake

Made this cake today using a recipe from Addicted to Dates. Ended up using animal crackers for the crust since I couldn’t find honey-free graham crackers nor digestive biscuits. Came out great though!

    Intro Post - MapleEngineer
  • Oh yeah, those potting/epoxy materials can be really annoying to remove. At work we have some prototypes that someone decided needed Silastic everywhere... so half of the debugging time is peeling that stuff away. At least that stuff in particular is easy to peel :)

  • Vegan food porn or recipe community?
  • I had been thinking of making a shittyveganfoodporn community, but haven't had any good shitty vegan food porn to post... also probably don't have time to moderate it. But I'm working on a vegan tiramisu cheesecake (from Addicted to Dates) as we speak, so I'll have some regular vegan food porn to post.

  • Intro Post - MapleEngineer
  • Thanks for starting this community! Maple syrup making sounds fun. What have been some of the most difficult reworks you’ve successfully completed?

  • This community is for electronic hobbyists to discuss projects and is focused on soldering. Everyone is welcome
  • Looks fun! Who’s going to post the first BGA rework video? Haha

  • ECE: Electrical and Computer Engineering
  • Took me a bit but from this post I realized you have to search for the community with the full name, i.e. [email protected], in the "Communities" tab in the instance you're in. Looks like I'm able to access it from your instance now: https://reddthat.com/c/[email protected]

  • They Used To Be A Big Shot, Now Eagle Is No More
  • Eagle was the first piece of ECAD software for PCBs I used. I remember using the free version that limited my workspace to 4" square or so. Good times. Wish I had found KiCAD first though.

  • usb-c charging cables
  • Agreed, Anker cables have held up for me for years.

  • Good suggestions for a manual coffee grinder?
  • I've enjoyed my 1Zpresso K-Max, although in retrospect getting the blind shaker design in the magnetic catch cup of the K-Plus would have been nice. The external adjustment with detents was a selling point for me, despite it having a slightly coarser adjustment than comparably-priced manual grinders.

  • What are the job prospects like for an EE graduate in a country that doesn't have a strong semiconductor and IC design/manufacturing industry?
  • I'm unfamiliar with career prospects for electrical engineers in Sweden, so I'll defer to that advice you have gotten, and hope someone who is familiar can add some helpful information. Perusing through LinkedIn and Indeed could be helpful in seeing what the job offerings are like in your local area. I'll try to add something useful to the discussion though. From what you've said, you seem very passionate about computer science -- self-learning and working in a related field while pursuing a degree in EE is no joke. It would be a shame to abandon that pursuit if it truly is a passion of yours.

Some questions I have that might be helpful to think over:

    1. What is the process to change your major now? I recognize you're only a year away from graduating with an EE degree, but it could be useful to know what the application process would be like, what barriers you would face with regard to admittance into the CS program now, etc.
    2. What is your plan after undergrad? Have you thought about pursuing a master's degree in CS? There are options for fully remote classes (for instance, my alma mater has an online MS in CS program called "OMSCS").
    3. In terms of careers as an EE that could provide more job opportunities and straddle the line between EE and CS, have you looked into roles related to firmware engineering / embedded software engineering?
  • Nine Inch Nails - "Gone, Still" 2001 New Orleans, Directed by Rob Sheridan
  • I love them too. There are also videos for Something I Can Never Have and The Becoming that Rob uploaded from this period. You may have seen these already, but they are worth linking.

  • How did I do?
  • Looks nice! For what it's worth, the "expand here" option worked on my end with Firefox.

For those uninitiated and those interested in Smith Charts, check out this video from w2aew. I recommend his channel for all things RF related.

    ECE: Electrical and Computer Engineering

Calling all electrical and computer engineers, students, and hobbyists interested in the subject. Do you have burning questions about the field (and sub-fields)? Do you have a schematic or layout you'd like the community to review? Did you let the magic smoke out? You did, didn't you? That's all fine. Come share your questions, experiences, thoughts, articles, etc. with us.

    What beans are you using?

Thought it could be fun to get a thread going on what beans we're currently using, maybe with some pertinent details on the brew variables if you feel inclined to share.

This past week I've been using Portrait Coffee's Toni, a medium-roast single-origin from Brazil, roasted in Atlanta. I've been really pleased with the taste of my pulls with a 1:2 ratio. Great chocolatey notes, which is what I typically seek.

Radiohead - The King Of Limbs From The Basement (December 2011)

One of my favorite performances from Radiohead. I feel that this album can bring out some stronger views among fans than other albums. Thom's performance of Bloom at Electric Lady Studios is also a must-watch.

Nine Inch Nails - "Gone, Still" 2001 New Orleans, Directed by Rob Sheridan

One of my favorite performances, the wind moving the curtains and the ambiance makes me feel like I'm transported there. Rob's YouTube channel has a ton of great NIN videos.
