RSS Feed Requests and Announcements - Get an RSS feed as a Lemmy community
Yesterday I posted about rss.ponder.cat, with communities automatically fed from a selection of RSS feeds. Today I made [email protected], with:
- A sticky-post roadmap of the RSS feeds that are already available
- A place for people to request communities to be added
- A place for me to post announcements about new communities
I don't plan to spam [email protected] with every new RSS feed, but I figured I would let people know the location of the community that will get announcements about new RSS feed communities, in case they want to subscribe to it.
Cheers!

RSS newsfeed communities (BBC, New York Times, Ars)
rss.ponder.cat is live! You can have Lemmy communities fed by RSS news feeds:
A lot of big sites offer feeds for different categories of article, but I'm not sure it is smart to mirror every single one into a Lemmy community. The ones above, for periodicals like the BBC, are only the front page stories, which seems necessary for it not to turn into spam.
The Ars mirror, on the other hand, I broke down by category, at least partly. You can get all the articles:
- [email protected] - Every single article
- [email protected] - Only feature articles
Or, you can subscribe to individual categories of articles:
I'll see how it goes. I don't want it to become a source of spam.
If you want to have an RSS feed as a community, ask. They're easy to add. Just say something and I'll set it up.
Happy RSSing!

Watch Dogs - A community for discussing the Watch Dogs video game franchise
I'm a big fan of the Watch Dogs games and books and thought that it would be great to have a place on lemmy to talk about and share media related to them. Especially now that there's a manga series being released and an upcoming movie has been confirmed, this seems like the perfect time to do this. Thanks for reading my post and I hope to see you there!

Analog Horror - Found Footage
Analog horror can be seen as a descendant of creepypasta and found footage films. It draws inspiration from earlier works like The Blair Witch Project and The Ring, which utilized similar themes of manipulated media and unsettling narratives. The genre gained traction with the success of Local 58, No Through Road, and Gemini Home Entertainment. It is characterized by its use of low-fidelity visuals, cryptic messages, and a nostalgic aesthetic reminiscent of late 20th-century television and analog media, often set between the 1960s and 1990s

Lies of P - a community for the South Korean Soulslike inspired by Pinocchio!
I've created the community very recently, so there isn't a lot of content on there yet. I'd love for you guys to join in and add some life to it, though!
Discussions of the game, memes, news, and anything else pertaining to the game is a fit there.
Thanks!

Otome Games
Otome games are video games targeted towards women, where a female protagonist can romance male love interests as a major part of the game.
Why you might recognize this community
I've been posting over at [email protected] (at kbin.social), even advertising it here, until someone pointed out they couldn't see any posts unless they went to https://kbin.run/m/[email protected]. I checked and kbin.social has been down for a long while. I deleted the advertisement, made a community on kbin.run (which has been steadily running ever since I joined it about a year ago, and others have let me know they can see my posts), and now here I am advertising the kbin.run version!
Alternate link. For any other Kbin/Mbin users browsing that want to advertise a community, the link I used here is

New Community for Chronic Illness
Hi. Since most chronic illnesses (autoimmune disease, post-infectious disease, psychiatric disease etc. etc.) don’t have enough people to form their own communities, I though having a community for everyone would be nice. Ground rules I’m thinking are:
- Be civil
- No ableism
- No promoting quackery (or direct medical advice) (quackery meaning unproven treatments, for profit courses saying they will “heal” you, etc)
Feel free to join!

The Ice Cream community is focused on ice cream. Homemade ice cream, recipes, pictures, stories, good commercial ice cream, your favourite ice cream treat or favorite ice cream shop.
I make homemade ice cream and am in the middle of a run. I have made vanilla, (Canadian) Smartie, and milk chocolate almond cluster so far but I have a few more to make before I'm done.
I've posted my favourite ice cream base recipe and a recipe for spicy Aztec Chocolate Ice cream.
If you're a fan of ice cream come check it out.

Pleasant Politics: Politics without the jerks
Every political thread is chock full of people being angry and unreasonable. I did some data mining, and most of the hate is coming from a very small percentage of the community, and the rest of the community is very consistent in downvoting them.
The problem is that even with human moderators enforcing a series of rules, most of those people are still in the comments making things miserable. So I made a bot to do it instead.
[email protected] is a bot that uses an algorithm similar to PageRank to analyze the Lemmy community, and preemptively bans about 1-2% of posters, that consistently get a negative reaction a lot of the time. Take a look at an example of the early results. See how nice that is? It's just people talking, and when they disagree, they say things like "clearly that part is wrong" and "your additions are good information though."
It's too early to tell how well it will work on a larger scale, but I'm hopeful. So, welcome to my experiment. Let's talk politics without all the abusive people coming into the picture too. Please come in and test if this thing can work in the long run.
