But it comes in bigger cans, so you can spray longer. A reasonable tradeoff under some conditions.

Fuck you /u/spez, you fragile fucking snowflake
Reddit's own guidance on the topic says the presence of profanity could cause a post or a sub to be NSFW.
A moderator toggling their sub NSFW due to the presence of profanity would be fully in line with their own guidance, and I'm pretty sure r/shittylifeprotips had a little profanity. (Hint: it's in the name.)
Reddit is just desperately trying to interpret their rules in whatever way they desire because they're panicking at losing revenue.
Yeah I've had to wipe the whole thing half a dozen times now as various subs come back from blackout and those posts become accessible again. I don't mind, but I can imagine it being irritating if folks don't realize what has happened and think there was malicious intent in bringing back deleted content.
Yeah PDS is a good start but has some issues, if you're comfortable with the API you'll probably do better there.
I used Power Delete Suite to back up and delete my content. Note that there seems to be a bug in the archive export process though. I had to follow the advice on this issue to pull my full CSV backup.
The valuation drop by Fidelity took place over time, mostly last year, so it's unrelated to the API changes. That said, I agree the admins have chosen very poorly. With the amount of money on the table, buying out 3rd party apps would have been a steal compared to the massive hit to goodwill among their users and mods they're taking now.
