  • I would prefer to use Lemmy, but it simply doesn't have some things that reddit currently has. It could in the future, but it doesn't have the user base yet.

  • Opinion | Why Aren’t More People Getting Married? Ask Women What Dating Is Like.
  • They're really gonna play the "men are shit" card? I mean come on.

  • America is so great we privatized taxes
  • I basically agree. Those are actually insurance, and serve a purpose. Health "Insurance" isn't insurance at all really...

  • Why do you want this job?
  • As you get more and more specialized, this starts to change. If my expertise is selling matts for large cranes, then there are like 3 companies that do that. The companies themselves are no special, but your expertise in that area does have a special alignment with what that company wants to do.

Non-specialized positions, again, make this question worthless.

  • Why do you want this job?
  • I think good answers, in this case, are more than "I'm passionate about x". A specific scenario where you were really interested in a specific scientific question related to the job at hand would be much better. Again, useful if you're going to be an engineer at Tesla, not useful for a cashier at Taco Bell.

  • America is so great we privatized taxes
  • Absolutely agree.

  • America is so great we privatized taxes
  • If you mean specifically health insurance.... yeah this is spot on.

I think it's more complicated for other kinds of insurance though.

  • Why do you want this job?
  • As I say every time I see this joke, it's a stupid question when McDonald's asks it, but a good when when more advanced or complex jobs ask it. A person who is passionate about science is a better candidate for a job at an engineering firm than someone who isn't. Plus, the question, done right, is asking "why this specific company" rather than why do you want any job. "Why FLIR instead of Tesla?" is a very different question than "why McDonald's instead of Burger King".

  • Support for Third U.S. Political Party Up to 63%
  • I think it's a good idea to separate the politicians and party leaders from the rank-and-file members.

The organization knows what it is they are doing. But the members.... I think of lot of them are just completely deceived in various ways about various things.

So when someone says "republicans want a dictatorship" it can be true in one sense, and nonsense in another.

  • Greenland women demand compensation for forced contraception
  • I wouldn't say they were taken care of in this case....

But regardless, that's a hardly an amount that would prevent someone from trying to do this again.

  • Greenland women demand compensation for forced contraception
  • That's helpful to know, but man, that's hardly fair compensation for such a terrible thing.

  • Greenland women demand compensation for forced contraception
  • They're only asking for 38,000? Seems really low...

  • Support for Third U.S. Political Party Up to 63%
  • Absolutely! But to accuse them wanting a dictatorship will only drive them further into the deception, because they aren't lying when they say they don't want it, despite them supporting a path towards it.

Accusing a person of lying when they are not willing always get a strong reaction against you because they believe they are morally right and you are lying to them.

  • In supporting trump, they support someone who would gladly take that role if he could. I agree.

But the contradiction is deep within themselves not just held for outsiders to see. They aren't lying when they say they support democracy and say they support trump at the same time. They're contradicting themselves, but they aren't lying. I don't know why that happens, but I guess they have been deceived.

But it's important to have that distinction, otherwise we dehumanize millions of people, and destroy hope of showing them the truth.

  • Support for Third U.S. Political Party Up to 63%
  • I can agree that Trump and those like him are moving towards that kind of power structure.

And yes that means that those who support trump and deny that want a dictatorship and at some level contradicting themselves.

But that is a different thing tham actually wanting a dictatorship.

Misrepresenting people will get us no where. It will dehumanize those we disagree with and will create enemies from those who could be allies.

  • If by conservatives you mean Americans who describe themselves as conservatives.... that's a ridiculous claim. I don't think I've ever met a Republican who openly wanted a dictator. I'm sure they exist, but it's not the majority view within Republican voters.

If you mean something else, please define what you mean by conservative.

I have a 220 volt outlet, my PSU supports 115-240v, but the plug is only a standard 120v plug. How doninokug it in?

The plug side that goes into the PSU is not standard.

The PSU is an EVGA 1600 G2 supernova.

How do I plug this in? I can't find a compatible cable or plug adapter.

    What happened to MLB games?

I used to be able to watch them, now I can't. I've seen ads for watching games on youtubetv, but I can't actually watch them. Is there a package I need now or something?

Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman advances to next phase in MLB’s All-Star voting, with chance to start for AL

The first phase of All-Star fan voting ended Thursday, and Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman is one step closer to potentially starting the Midsummer Classic for the American League.

Rutschman led all AL catchers with almost 1.3 million votes, ahead of his fellow finalist, Texas’ Jonah Heim, by more than 300,000 votes. The two backstops now move on to the second phase of voting, during which fans will determine who will start July 11 at Seattle’s T-Mobile Park.

Although Rutschman led Heim by a significant margin, the vote totals from the first phase don’t carry over to the second. Voting will restart at noon Monday and end at noon Thursday, with fans allowed to vote once per 24-hour period.
