I disagree. I think identity politics is causing a lot of burnout. It might still be relevant but it can't be the single topic for the Dems to rally around. Yes, it's the economy. But to pretend the insane thought policing that occurs on the left isnt exhausting is a failure on our part I believe.
I don't understand what attacking the user for sharing their feelings gets you. It's the vibe that enough voters shared in to stay home on election day. Her interviews seemed canned and focus group searched to death. Trump speaks like a deranged imbecile, but that's how his voters are able to connect with him. He stands apart from the rest of the establishment despite being the most snake oil establishment figurehead there is. People see what they want to see in him. He is a tabula rasa for the magats
You're like the ultimate contrarian in every comment. It's kinda weird. I don't get it. What's your endgame?
You can tell the writers are running out of ideas this season
Pleas don't give Hollywood any ideas...
I don't understand. Did I lobby any insults at you at any point?
I just asked how could any meaningful legislation pass without a super majority and you accuse me of lying. My thesis hasn't changed since post #1. Do you have any suggestions for how the democratic party could have effected change without a super majority? I'm really curious. We'd all like to know.
So... Now we've pivotted to ad homs
I don't know what your argument is any more. Sinema and Manchin were always moderates. Democrats can't perform miracles if they don't have enough votes. Do you have any suggestions how they could have done it with just a slim majority held back by two moderates? What's your plan? I'm listening.
Yes, but Italians are incompetent (at least their government). That's the one relief
Moderator: I realize this is duplicate feel free to delete
I'm not sure where the confusion is. My whole point in that those two shits (Manchin and Sinema) did not vote with the party and blocked legislation. They worked against progressive legislation. Many of the bills had progressive policies that were taken out because of those two idiots. I'm for progressive policies but even I recognize the Democratic party was held hostage by these two shits. I thought I was clear???
40 Monkeys on the loose in SC after escaping research facility
Residents advised to keep doors and windows locked as police use thermal imaging cameras to search for animals
These monkeys went bananas: 40 monkeys escaped from a research facility in South Carolina, and local authorities on Wednesday warned residents to stay away.
“Residents are strongly advised to keep doors and windows secured to prevent these animals from entering homes,” the Yemassee police department said on Facebook this week. “If you spot any of the escaped animals, please contact 911 immediately and refrain from approaching them.”
The monkeys that absconded were from the Alpha Genesis research center, which bills itself as “primate research specialists”. Police said that they have set up traps around the area and are “utilizing thermal imaging cameras in an attempt to locate the animals”.
You're just restating your original claim without addressing what I wrote. You're stuck on your point for some reason. I'm telling you, the American Overton window - - as much as we online people want it to be-- is not aligned with what we see in Europe. Step outside social media and talk to real Americans or look at polls. Yes, some things poll really well like Universal health care. But when the same poll ran with a different question "would you be in favor of abolishing private insurance" only fraction rated it favorably. The reality is the US is not yet where we as lefties would like to see it.
They did NOT do everything. It fact we barely got them to do much. All this information is publicly available. Their voting records are available to see. None of this is hidden. They are the primary reason most of the bills that DID pass were almost completely neutered because they were negotiated down or stalled. This also happened only a few years ago. We are not talking about last decade.
Two independents from conservative states that barely align with democrats. Why do you handwave this away so easily???
Just read an article in the guardian by a climate scientist lamenting how many times he and his colleagues presented flood risk data to city officials in Valencia but time and time again they ignored them. Very sad.
Italy has a digital nomad visa now. Cost of living is so so but if you can freelance it's not a terrible place to live as an expat. Source: am US dual citizen living here. Feel free to pm me with any qs
Comparing the democratic party with the left that exists in Europe is asinine. You can't leap the American Overton window overnight. As much as online leftists like to yap about social policies the reality, as indicated by this election, is that the American Overton window is far different than what you see in Europe and you can't leap into the same policies overnight.
Yea, i guess the Budapest Memorandum meant nothing huh? Thank you "yankstupids" what an insightful
What a naive and infantile way of looking at the world.
None of what we are talking about has anything to do with linguistic description. I am not making any prescriptive claims about how the phrase burning ought to be used when describing the practice on humans. We are discussing the colloquial ambiguity in how the term is employed in the headline. We are not discussing grammar.
There is enough ambiguity that plenty of users have brought it up in this thread. You can be dismissive and handwave it away as "others falling for the same bullshit" but it's irrelevant. There are enough of us that grew up speaking English that when we refer to act of branding humans the implication is physical scarification and not product branding which is a marketing term. For those of us that grew up speaking English this is clear as day. It has nothing to do with prescriptive language or grammatic rules as discussed in your philology. Also, at no point did any of this justify your pathetic attack with "filthy little genocide denier". Do better.
Why is there a user base here that is so angry all the time? Genuine question.
My experience on this platform has been mixed so far but one thing I've noticed the most is a significant contingent of the user base is really reactionary in their discourse.
This is a very typical exchange I have here :
>User: I don't like this color because it's red.
>Me: I don't know, looks more like purple to me. What about red is bad?
>User: Why don't you fuck yourself in the face you fucking cuntfuck!
>Me: OK...
Like, what gives? I don't have this experience on other platforms. I have arguments but never this shutdown meccanism.
Has community engagement dropped off suddenly?
I don't know if others are experiencing a similar situation. My all feed is very sparse with engagement. If I sort top six hours or by top 12 most posts have between 5-10 comments. I feel like there was more in the past? Is engagement dropping off? I'm on lemmy.world as my instance.
Houthis in Yemen blow up a resident’s house, killing at least 9 from the same family
Officials and residents of a town southeast of Yemen's capital say nine members of one family were killed when Iranian-backed Houthi rebels blew up a house.
Is anyone else getting downvotes for benign disagreements here?
At least on Reddit there was some leveling of downvotes built into the algorithm. This site is making it seem like any slight disagreement leads to downvotes thus encouraging more echo chambers. Maybe it's the communities I'm commenting on?
