Hori Announces Controller Made Specifically for Steam
  • Some games don’t really use it in a meaningful way, others make it a key component of gameplay. Sometimes gimmicky, obviously. For example I tried Mario Galaxy on the Deck, there’s a puzzle that requires finding the right spot with the HD rumble. The Deck has the same kind of haptics, but it didn’t translate at all into something meaningful, so that one puzzle cannot be solved. Old school rumble is ok and nice, but modern devices (Steam Deck, Switch, PS5, something like last 10 years of iPhones, obviously the Steam Controller) have proper haptics and can really do weird things. Click on the trackpad of your Deck when it’s off. The click is faked with haptics, so there’s none when it’s off! Main problem is that both Microsoft and Nintendo are strikingly dumb, so Microsoft is still clinging to 30 year old tech with the classic rumble, and Nintendo has HD Rumble only on the real Switch… so developers can’t expect everything to have proper haptics, and fall back to rumble.

  • [Purchased Bambu A1 mini] Low End FDM for Miniatures, Hobby Parts, and Messing Around?
  • I have a Sovol SV07 Plus, that is the newer version of the SV06 Plus… or in other words, the mechanically identical, but larger, SV06. It’s easy to assemble, it’s bigger than the A1 Mini. Now, you don’t know how big your printer needs to be, until you find out that it’s too small! I found that the 22cm square offered by my old Ender 3 was enough for most things, but it wasn’t enough for everything. I also had a 12cm square with a Monoprice Select Mini Plus V2(the name was the biggest thing lol) and that was quick to become restrictive. Would I suggest the A1 Mini, that has halfway between the two? I don’t know. But at the same time it comes pre assembled (it might not be a concern for you) and easy to use. In short I would recommend the SV07 as that’s the small and less expensive version of what I have, but the SV06 should be mechanically identical so that gives me hope it’ll perform equally well. The downsides are a less than stellar control unit (the hardware inside the touchscreen), a weird as fuck cooling fan that is super loud, and instructions that trick you into believing that the packets of screws are numbered in a meaningful way. Don’t. That said it prints everything with ease, it’s really fast and that fan might be loud, but at the same time works wonders. I love it. Oh! Also. Once I ever so slightly fucked up the Z offset, making it scrape quite thoroughly the build surface: nothing got damaged, build surface included!

  • What do you use the back buttons for?
  • Not much. On one hand, I don’t want to get too used to something that isn’t available anywhere else (controllers with back buttons are usually just able to be used as double for the face ones) and on the other hand… my main use is, as I found out, better to be avoided on the Deck. American Truck Simulator. Right now I don’t remember what I set them to, but I certainly have some cruise control options there. But the problem is that, if I’m tired at all, using the Deck if I end up doing a delivery at night, I fall asleep lmao. Learned that I am in fact not capable of shrugging off drowsiness while driving, glad I found out with a game…

  • An important reminder
  • It’s a bit of a general issue. The police in itself is good, however… it’s a job that puts people into a position of power. Power corrupts, and if you factor in that they’re not well paid (because tanks and so on are better ways to spend a budget…) but are supposed to put their lives on the line, then get treated either like the enemy or the “thin blue line” I see how things can go bad. Being a public service, they’re managed by the government and sent to deal with trouble accordingly, and the definition of trouble varies with whoever is at the top. Sprinkle in some dangerous levels of nationalism, the US being a super power and you most certainly get to hear about their unrest, while the stuff going on in your own country might be less flashy.

A small trivia bit that you might or might not know: at the beginning there was this organization that was created to protect the people from abuses by local lords. Everyone knows what an unholy shitfest that got corrupted into, given that I’m talking about the mafia…

  • An important reminder
  • Shower grade thought: whatever protest or manifestation proud boys might do, with firearms in plain view, nobody is going to even notice. Pride, BLM or similar if there’s guns for actual self defense rather than intimidation? How big of a bloodbath would it to turn into?

  • [Discussion] Do you still use your Steam Deck much?
  • Lately, not really. But I’m in a weird mood: I mostly play on the PS5 (the same thing I’ve been playing for most of the decade), stream an even older game with GeForce Now on my Mac (instead of playing far more recent stuff that has a Mac version), my gaming pc sits idle, and on the Deck obviously I play Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League when I feel like it.

    Yeah, weird mood.

  • what's a good ip camera for home assistant?
  • The wireless Reolinks are not great. Like, nothing against the camera itself, however, the WiFi antenna must be smaller than the one in my watch. The range is truly abysmal.

Tapo ones are perfectly fine, good quality all around, but it’s important to specify that I have experience with external, solar powered Reolinks and indoor Tapo, so it’s a bit of a different category.

Earn glorious Warhammer 40,000 rewards! Premium tanks, Commanders, War Chests, and Commander XP Bonuses are just a sample of what’s waiting.

Warhammer 40,000: Earn Challenge and Community Event

That looks convoluted. The part I’m not happy about is how it has a contract style, and while my personal tastes are subjective, what it means is that it tends to bunch all the player base in the same step, so at points “everyone” will be after kills, at others spotting only… thankfully it can be done in coop, as the bots will keep doing their thing regardless.

Also: pc got Star Trek, when do we get those goodies?

    modernarmor.worldoftanks.com Update Notes for May 21, 2024

What's included in the May 21st update to World of Tanks Modern Armor? Before logging in on your console, get the full info here!

Update Notes for May 21, 2024

That’s a lot of stuff! They’re changing the UI, a boatload of tanks, a couple of game mechanics for Cold War, fixing bugs… I’m not sure I like some changes, like the French tier 10 arty getting a reload buff (NOT a fan of that specific tank) or German tanks getting better damage but worse reload to compensate. Also worth noting that this will take 4 hours.

Oh, and they added pretty reflections on PS5/XSX.

Having said that, I’m asking for a little favor: sometimes the links I post get downvoted, and to be honest I don’t mind, but if something isn’t welcome let me know why! As far as I can tell all I’ve been posting is useful or interesting to know, so I’m not seeing a pattern.

The ISU-130 has plenty downsides, but if you can sneak to the side, the other team will feel it. Also not mentioned in this article is a balance pass in WWII for over 90 tanks, with the details coming Monday. I am always worried when it’s a large balance pass like this…

GeForce Now on the Quest, just Side Quest the apk

As per the title, you can just Side Quest the apk, open it, do the login, connect a Bluetooth controller and enjoy. It’s just a big screen, but it’s nice. Also very, very easy to do! I remember when doing this for Stadia it required fiddling a little and, crucially as it was before the support for Bluetooth controllers, Stadia was the only option because the controller was WiFi lol.

As a bonus you could install a browser (here’s my pick https://vivaldi.com/android/ ) and in the future just download apk with that.

[Game] Ghost of Tsushima single-player only on Steam Deck due to PlayStation Network features
  • Wow, wtf? So far Sony’s been good to the Deck, and while I don’t mind the psn requirement (when it’s upfront!) this seems either dumb or somewhat of a slip up. Hopefully someone will fix this (either Sony with an update to lose the Windows dependencies, or Valve with Proton sorcery). It is after all in Sony’s best interests to not encourage people to use systems from their competitors, so supporting Linux would make sense…

  • It's Time to Bring Back the Steam Machine
  • I have no idea if this works iPhones because Apple pretty restrictive (Do they allow anyone to use anything other than Safari or are they still on that anti-consumer kick)

In this instance it’s an oddly good thing that in app browser engines are restricted to Safari: because it gets the ad blocking you set up for Safari. I didn’t even know that site had ads!

That aside, while the in app engine is still locked, Apple has been allowing different browsers (not browser engines, mind you) for many years now and with the eu regulators curiously doing their job lately, they are going to allow different engines too. Although I’ve read that it’s a bit of a trick, because then developers would have to develop and support two different versions of their browsers, one with whatever engine, and one for the rest of the world…

This comes from a Vivaldi user btw.

  • If Sony buys Paramount
  • If I could give you a screenshot in time of what was the comments and reviews situation when I looked at it, it was a fairly surprising half of them specifically mentioning not wanting a Sony account, then 1/4 understandably not happy with the new requirement, and the remaining 1/4 either angry about it or straight up living in an unsupported country. Is it possible I got the exact moment where that group was most vocal? Honestly it could be, you’re not wrong after all. Regardless of everything, I’m glad I managed to get at least you to understand what I meant! Thanks for keeping an open mind.

Neat stuff! The rare GuP Panzer IV H is going to be available again and there’s new commanders related to that. This one holds some sentimental value to me, as the event to earn it (close to the launch of the PS4 version) was what actually got me into the game!

K9 Veterans Day: Challenge and Specials

Ah, the Rudy… I remember when they announced it, pc had it for some time now, and their dog barked on reload. Ours, was confirmed to not bark. This was before we got custom commander voices. Anyway they got lots of complaints, and they scrambled to get the dog to bark in time for the launch of the bundle! It was a success and probably the basis for all the custom voices we have now, but initially it also started a string of random sound issues. Once we had tanks without engine noise. Another time everyone in the team would know someone on the team had a very specific, unholy loud tank. Fun times.
