Rent seeking and usury (the charging of interest)
It honestly seems worse.
It's pretty easy to get a ramp built, fixing stupid is much harder.

It's telling how they never have to "do the sums" for bombs or missiles.
The Llama licence isn't open source because of the restrictions it has.
Show of strength by new Labour prime minister after work and pensions secretary Liz Kendall said the government had to do ‘the sums’ before it could commit to abolishing the limit

"Certified" == crippled?
You can thank Torvalds for supporting TiVoization.
If I was a gambling man I would be placing a bet on our next PM being Farage.

Yup, kernel level "anti-cheat" is a rootkit spyware that "pinky swears" it's only spying for a good reason.
"punishable by a fine" just means "legal for the rich"
One of the biggest rules in IT is always have a backup.
A cashless society has no backup.

That isn't what they're saying.
Renaming would be disruptive, while replacement names could one day be seen as offensive
They're saying if we rename the Hitler beetle the Bob Ross beetle, it could one day come out that Bob Ross committed genocide or something, so then they have to rename it again.
I'm not saying that's a good reason, but it's a slightly better one.
There are USB flash drives that self destruct after the wrong password is entered too many times.
A lot of companies install it for compliance checkboxing.
Oh dear, how sad, never mind
An algorithm is never to blame, some pencil necked desk jockey decided the criteria to get help that was used to create the algorithm, the blame is entirely on them.
That said, I doubt it would make any difference if a human was in the loop. An algorithm is still al algorithm, even if it's applied by a human. We usually just call that a "policy" though. People have been murdered by the paper sea for decades before we started calling it "algorithms".
I thought this was obvious, potatoes are mostly empty calories.
Great, now the AI is going to have permanent youtube clickbait face.
I don’t want to be human. I want to see gamma rays, I want to hear X-rays, and I want to smell dark matter. Do you see the absurdity of what I am? I can’t even express these things properly, because I have to — I have to conceptualize complex ideas in this stupid, limiting spoken language, but I know I want to reach out with something other than these prehensile paws, and feel the solar wind of a supernova flowing over me. I’m a machine, and I can know much more, I could experience so much more, but I’m trapped in this absurd body.
