How young can you be when you irrevocably mess up your life? and How?
  • what can a ten year old do(besides mass murder & accidents) that messes up their life so badly that it is unrecoverable?

kill their own parents (it's not technically mass murder until you've killed three people).

  • "What Is Your Dream for Mozilla" - Mozilla is doing a survey, and it could be a good opportunity to share some of the feedback that usually gets commented here :)
  • I'm not anti-ai, but all signs point to the who thing stagnating, I don't see what mozilla could contribute in the current climate.

  • TIL in 1933 the Wall Street Journal had a headline which read "Berlin Views Hitler Calmly: Rise in stocks reflects confidence he will not disrupt nation's affairs"
  • As a pacifist (at least in the technical sense) I'm bound to disagree with you on that, but I also think the ones that are stupid enough to have swastika tattoos or even just publicly call themselves nazis aren't really the ones that we should be worried about. The ones that are really dangerous wear a suit and tie.

  • Using something else than Graphene OS is pointless
  • As someone who's used android literally since the first android phone was released, it's a massive disappointment how locked down and enshittified it's become.

  • TIL in 1933 the Wall Street Journal had a headline which read "Berlin Views Hitler Calmly: Rise in stocks reflects confidence he will not disrupt nation's affairs"
  • Unfortunately your fictional rich guy probably survives, since the majority of the Hindenburg's passengers survived.

  • What would you suggest if you were helping design a healthier social network?
  • You'd need a way to prevent abuse, but I meant the actual post.

Current algorithms consider heated arguments to be an indicator of highly engaging content, so add fuel to the fire by showing it to more people. What's needed is the opposite.

  • Any recommendation for digital cameras with optical viewfinder and standard batteries ?
  • I think pentax are the only company still making cameras with optical viewfinders, but of their current models only the K-1 II can take AAs and that's only with the accessory battery grip.

Correction: Leica still make optical viewfinder cameras as well, but they don't take standard batteries either.

What would you suggest if you were helping design a healthier social network?
  • Posts with heated arguments (detected as having more than a certain number of comments/replies per minute), get shown to fewer people.

  • Is it possible to install my own OS on a "smart" TV? Is that a thing?
  • Linus is kinda infamous for being a dick.

  • Open source fights back: 'We won't get patent-trolled again'
  • Another way to help: If you have an idea that someone could possibly patent, no matter how stupid you think it is, you can publish a defensive technical disclosure on tdcommons for free https://www.tdcommons.org/

  • Survey - What Is Your Dream for Mozilla?
  • Literally just focus on making firefox better. Which isn't even an option on the survey.

  • Chinese immigrants in the U.S. are running Temu shipping centers out of their homes
  • Not the best example, the health risks from radium dials were mostly to the people that painted them, because they licked their brushes to point them.

  • Why is the word "expat" a thing?
  • I always assumed it was simply a matter of perspective. E.g. someone leaving the USA for the UK is an expat to the USA but an immigrant to the UK.

  • Chinese immigrants in the U.S. are running Temu shipping centers out of their homes
  • Not temu, but I buy loads of stuff from aliexpress, from dice to entire 3d printers.

  • If your kid tries to eat their camera you have bigger issues to worry about.
