Comparing a city to a country doesn't really work.
That's correct
Not still, but again. Moved back when Covid hit and my company started to allow working from home. Honestly, I prefer it. Lived in a tiny city apartment, now I live in a large house in a village, with a garden and lots of nature around. The house would be too large and expensive for my mom to live there alone, so it makes sense for both of us.
Much of the world is moving in that direction. The many crises of recent years and an uncertain future outlook for humanity are fertile ground for extremists promising easy solutions and "going back to the good old days".
I really enjoyed visiting Cimiteiro Monumentale in Milan. A historic cemetery with lots of lavishishly designed huge tombs. Very few tourists there and no scammers whatsoever.
Source? In Germany at least that's not the case, it's mainly the conservatives who push for it. In the original vote, only the greens clearly opposed it. Later on, SPD (center-left) and FDP (liberal) changed course to also oppose it. Couldn't find results for other countries though, so I'm genuinely curious.
Either way they can just give it a new name and change some details to propose it again. Like how they made it "voluntary" this time (but you can only send text if you don't agree).
Nice. I guess they didn't expect to get a majority to support it anymore. Definitely a win for now, but I'm sure they'll try again.

Reading online comments and reading a book might technically be the same action, but trust me it's really not comparable. Books are also a great way to practice English. It's basically how I got to my level despite never having studied for tests.
Pirating books on a Kindle is trivial as well.
Some things I do:
- Read a book
- Learn/practice a language
- Go cycling or hiking through nature
- Take the train to a city or town I haven't been to before and explore
My uncle preordered the Fisker Ocean. He said it was the worst car he ever had and returned it within a week or so. So yeah, not surprised.
Vegetarian here. It's not something I'd personally buy or use in meals, as I don't really have the desire to eat meat. That said, if it happened to be in a dish I really want to try at a restaurant, sure I'd eat it.
I don't think I've ever seen a book series getting so many adaptations in such a short time.
- Biggest democracy in the world
- Wouldn't consider it a world leader, to me it often seems more like they refuse to take a clear stance in world affairs, so they can continue positive relations with authoritarian countries like Russia
- Rapid development, but still a lot of extreme poverty and inequality
- Chaotic cities
- Great food, especially for vegetarians like me
- Religious extremism/conflicts seem prevalent
PCs. Gaming laptops kinda suck IMO, especially their cooling. They also can't really be upgraded and are much more expensive for the performance. For mobile PC gaming I much prefer a Steam Deck.
There have been many times in history when things have been far worse, so no, it's not the worst. But many things are in decline right now. Democracy, digital privacy, trustworthiness of information, global peace, climate, the environment... humanity has to get back on track soon or the future looks pretty grim.
I'm not impressed by this. Doesn't seem like much of an RPG anymore, but like a generic action game with thin slices of RPG elements at best. I don't mind the game not being open world, but the levels shown seem to effectively be linear corridors without any variety in how to approach a situation.
This game was announced in January 2023, and its name is the name of the book from 1905 it's based on. Don't really see any malicious intent here.
New Motherboard with loose CMOS Battery - Should I worry/return?
I'm currently waiting for all the components for my PC upgrade to arrive. Got the motherboard today and immediately upon opening, I noticed that the CMOS battery was not in its slot but just kind of next to it loose on top of the board. The slot seems fine, it seems to fit securely in there. No scratches on the board either. But now I'm a bit worried - could the battery have shorted something on the motherboard? It holds a charge after all. What do you think - should I return it for a new one untested or are the chances of the battery harming anything so miniscule that I should just go for it and use it in my build?
Games that support the Deck's multitouch
The Steam Deck's multitouch screen might be its most underutilised feature. Until recently, I wasn't even sure whether devs could use it for anything more than simple mouse emulation. But I've just started playing "Sky: Children of the Light" on my Deck (which is generally a great experience on Deck, especially on the OLED with 90Hz HDR) and I found that when using a musical instrument, you can actually use the touchscreen to play up to 10 notes at the same time.
This got me curious: Do you know if there are any other games on Deck using multitouch, or is Sky the first one that does it?

Federation issues with feddit.de?
I've noticed that Pawb no longer seems to receive any new posts from any feddit.de communities. For example, if I view the "DACH" community through Pawb, the latest post is from 7 days ago, while on feddit itself, there were many posts in the last 7 days. Both instances still seem to be federated and aren't on each other's blocklists. Any idea what is happening here?

Can't reply to kbin accounts
Hi everyone! I've noticed for a while now that I can't reply to comments made by kbin accounts using my account here. Not even talking about kbin threads, but for example if I reply to any kbin-made comment over on feddit.de, once I click submit it just keeps spinning without ever posting the reply. I often see users from other lemmy instances replying to them though, so it doesn't seem like a general lemmy problem. Does everyone else here have this problem as well?
