Is this case still worth using in 2023?
  • My hot take is that this is practically irrelevant for the vast majority of desktop users, even hobbyists. Unless you have an absolute rats’ nest of cables inside the case or you are overclocking the chip close to its thermal limits, your chip should run just fine with a small form factor heatsink/fan, which an older, non-enthusiast case should have no problem fitting. As one data point, I’m cooling my CPU with a Noctua NH-D15 inside my Antec Three Hundred. A somewhat tight fit? Maybe, but certainly no performance issues.

  • Yeah, I’m not sure what would make a case obsolete other than not physically fitting your hardware. I’m using a janky mid-2000s Antec case to hold my i7-9700k / RTX 2070 build with no problems (although I fully expect to need a bigger case for any future GPU upgrades).

  • Literally Me Today
  • This works out really well for upper management. They know full well that you know that your team lead doesn’t make the decision to understaff, which they hope will guilt their contributors into staying instead of piling more shit on the blameless boss’s plate when they leave.

  • Alvvays - Blue Rev

I might be late to the party, but I saw this band last week for the first time after hearing almost nothing of theirs before (went mostly for their co-headliner Alex G), and WOW - what a performance. Their latest record has been living rent-free in my head ever since. I haven't been this blown away by an indie pop record in years, maybe since Beach House's Bloom. From start to heartbreaking finish, not a minute wasted. I recommend a listen.

66% of Americans say they want extended European-style vacation policies at work
  • Would it make sense to find a new job? I hate American corporate culture just as much, and it frustrates me that we have such an unhealthy attitude towards leisure and enjoyment of life in this country, but as long as I have options, I’m not interested in working for a company where the expectation is regular weekend work (even if it means reducing my lifetime earning potential).

  • Zoom has “Zoom fatigue,” requires workers to return to the office
  • Meanwhile, my company (small/mid tech) is going all-in on remote because they pay so little and run it so much like a sweatshop that they have no hope of attracting even mediocre talent otherwise. I’m looking for something else, but fully remote is drying up and it’s been more mentally difficult than I expected to wrap my head around dragging my ass to an office 3+ days a week to do the exact same work I do at my house.

  • Is Tidal/Deezer worth it?
  • I love Tidal for the audio quality and have no plans to go back to Spotify (unless they release a competitive hi-fi service). That said, the Tidal app (UI design, error frequency, AC/AA integration, etc) is not as polished and well-made as something like Spotify, and the lack of unification between playback on different devices was a bit of a letdown at first (I.e., you can play different tracks on different devices at the same time; you can’t use your phone as a remote control for playback on your desktop app).

  • Lawmakers seek to loosen rules on marijuana use by military recruits and security personnel
  • It’s absurd that employers in legalized states are allowed to fire/refuse to hire candidates/employees based on the contents of their urine/hair/other bodily substances when impairment on the job or illegal use isn’t in question. Federal legalization will hopefully put a nail in that coffin, at least for practical purposes.
