King Charles to receive huge pay rise from UK taxpayers
  • Also note that the civil service / government departments and arms length bodies (like Kew Gardens, British Library, British Museum, Research Councils, etc) do not have independent pay review bodies and bargin individually for thier pay, has not been mentioned in this. Given this government it is highly likely that it will not, and the civil service will still be at 2009 pay for alot more work. We have not forgotten the being essential for covid ansld then trying to sack 20% of us while cutting severance packages (currently resolved by recent strike action).

  • DIY Wasn’t Meant For Subs
  • The main one is the resin that is bring used, that will have a shelf life like paint or glue as the solvent will evaporate. The second one is fibre primers that are used to help the resin integrate with the Carbon Fibers can degrade and cause improper bonding between the fibres and layers. For fabrics this is normally over a year but for prepregs (where the resin already in the fibres but not set) is generally a year and will need testing for a longer shelf life.

Another issue is the storage you want a cool dry environment and covered to avoid contamination from other rolls/prepregs. Additionally the other thing that worries me is although salt water is not an issue to the fibres and resins themselves when you add metal to them the salt acts as an electrolyte and will cause galvanic corrosion "rusting" away the fasteners and causing damage to the fibres in that area.

Not to mention Carbon Fiber is best for coaxial (along the length of the tube) tension not hoop (around the tube) compressive forces. And differences in the layup and curing process can impact the viability of the final part which is why lots of places will weigh the resin and have a procedure to soak the fibres and lay them up as well as sensors to keep the pressure and temperature with a margin for curing, to keep the variability between the parts minimal.

    Trust me I'm an Engineer

  • My growing RPN collection
  • Ive also been using droid48 on my phone as well as free42. The transition to RPN can take a bit kf getting used to, HP used to have a guide to RPN in all the user guides. Take your time they are great pieces of hardware regardless. Its really funny handing it to someone and they panic because its different on the bright side people dont ask to borrow them.

  • Seeing more of these guys in the gym

On the bright side its good exercise reracking them, once i confirm that noone is using them.

    My growing RPN collection

Having used a Ti84+ and Casio FX83GT for my secondary education, and borrowing a HP32 from a classmate at university I really like the stack approach and rpn so I caved with a HP35s which mostly did the job but wasn't pocketable and a bit clumsy for me I found a HP32sii and snapped it up becoming my daily driver for a long time. It scratched an itch i didn't know i had, then wanting to expand my programming and plotting I didnt like the look of the 49g and the 50g being out of my budget I found a nice HP48G that sits on my desk for the more complex work where the RPL hits the needs as well as a "quick" plotter. Even managed to bond with the older grumpy engineers over the calculators and rpn. Im sure my collection will continue to grow.

Anyone know of any good books/papers about surviving nightshift work?
  • I have found its more through tips from colleges and shared trauma. In my experience its the intial change to nights thats hard once I've done 2 my body has started to adjust.

    - either stay up late and go to sleep early morning to start transition

    - nap alot during the day and use caffeine to pull through

Once on shift you need to keep active mentally and physically, being idle is the killer, make sure to take short breaks, keep hydrated, it is very easy to over snack but you need to keep eating.

The change back after isnt too bad imho you can gey some sleep straight away and but wake mid afternoon and can start to pull back to normal.

make sure you get paid for the rest day after when coming back to days you have worked that time you have taken the sacrifice and deserve to be compensated for it.

Are theres 12 or 8 hour nights? One is nicer.

  • Tell me about your work life!
  • Be an engineer they said, its all about problem solving they said, they lied. No one mentioned the documentation and reports, just let me tinker/build/fix/test things. Turns out should be a technician 😂but i do love it really.

Boris Johnson standing down from UK parliament
  • I mean yes but also i am kind of glad he is out for now but his impact on the tories will still he there for years even if they lose their majority in tbe next GE i feel there will alot of his allies still there for now to continue to push in their direction from the back benches. But that's the cynic in me.

Is there currently a dedicated mobile app for this instance?
  • You can see local/subs/all from the hamburger on the side which will give different feeds, should be able to search for communities from the second icon on the left at the bottom but doesnr list for that id use something like Community browser but then you can find it in the app.

Is this what youre talking about?

  • Reading advice?

I used to read alot devouring books on the bus to school/work (almost like the movement help my dyslexia 😂) but recently I have been struggling to get into books having not been able to get past the first few chapters. Do yous have tips or methods for when you're in a bit of a reading funk?
