Top 5 movies about AI
  • Great list!

  • Use this post to talk about the community itself: comments, feedback, etc

I just realized, but having somewhat strict rules on what to post to the community, I left no space to talk about the community itself. So I'll leave this post pinned in case you have any comments.

    Cheers!

    Top 5 movies about AI
  • I was waiting for someone to mention 2001. I know it's an obvious choice for a list about AI movies, but... for a hardcore sci-fi fan, I'm ashamed to admit that I don't really like that movie all that much. Not that I think it's bad, but certainly not on my top.

  • Top 5 movies about AI
  • I can't believe that movie is almost a decade old. You know what? I'm gonna put it on my watch list too, about time I watch it again.

  • Top 5 fictional bands from TV shows
  • I guess being so good that the band becomes real disqualifies them? I also thought about Flight of the Conchords, but are they really a fictional band?

  • Uuh, that's good, love it!

  • Top 5, a community for making lists about your favourite stuff. Movies with a specific theme, albums on some genre, SNES JRPG games, cute two legged animals... anything goes.

    Top 5 movies about AI

    1. Blade Runner (1982)
    2. A.I. (2001)
    3. Her (2013)
    4. Minority Report (2002)
    5. Ex Machina (2014)

There are some movies with an AI character or element in them that are better than some of the ones on my list, but they are not really about AI. For example, The Matrix or Alien. Prometheus might fit a bit better than Alien tho (and I love that movie, fight me).

And there's also Minority Report, which doesn't directly have an AI, at least not a clearly defined and prominent one. But if you forget about the precogs, what's left is a pretty prophetic world where algorithms rule society, not only to tell you what to buy, but also to put you in jail even before you commit any crime. It's scary how close we are getting there, and this comes from a 2002 movie based on a 1956 book. More ML than AI, but whatever, it's my list.

Two movies that didn't make it into the list by a whisker were Westworld and The Iron Giant. I probably like The Iron Giant more than I like Ex Machina, but Ex Machina is more on theme, so there's that.

Please, add a language selector. Forced translations on the latest version are a bit of a mess.
  • If I'm not mistaken, that's only a feature on Android 13.

  • Please, add a language selector. Forced translations on the latest version are a bit of a mess.

I just updated to 0.35 and got a translation forced on me with no option to go back to English. The translations are a bit of a mess in many ways. Literal translations that take no consideration of context, broken layout elements due to longer strings of text...

Don't get me wrong, is great that they are thinking of making it easy for everyone to use the app, I'm just asking to make it optional if possible.

BTW, I don't know if Jerboa devs monitor this community, but I don't use Matrix, so I'm not sure where else to request this.

Is there very little content on Lemmy or is the sorting algorithm used by either Lemmy or Jerboa not working super great?
  • Right! That's totally it. I'm still moving between instances, so I got confused, but you're right, 0.18.0 is working much better. Should have not made the post tbh, I was browsing on lemmy.ml (which is using 0.18) on the web just a few hours ago and I didn't notice the lack of content, but I had Jerboa on lemmy.world. I should have just stopped and used my brain for a second before posting.

    Thanks!

When sorting by all instances > all communities > hot, I get as the top post a 20 votes, 1 comment post. Just 5 or so posts below, a 5 votes and 0 comments post.

If I sort by active instead, I see two day old posts.

    Should I be sorting differently?

EDIT: Nevermind, I wasn't using my brain. All good on any instance using lemmy 0.18. Just need to wait for Jerboa to update. I was about to delete the post, but maybe other people were thinking the same, so I'll keep it so they can read this. Just wait for Jerboa to update, next version should be much better in this regard.
