Vultures
  • I think you're right that they regurgitate food for their young like most birds. A unique puke related vulture fact is that they projectile vomit at predators as a deterrent and means of dropping weight to flee after they've been gorging on a carcass.

  • Saw this beautiful Hawk in the middle of New York City!
  • Coopers and red tails are pretty distinctly different. Size is the first marker as red tails are significantly larger than coopers hawks. Also, coopers have very distinctive barred breasts and banded tails. You can also differentiate them through their wing profile; red tails are buteos and have a broad wing profile that is largely straight while coopers are accipitors and their wings are much more angular so that they can more deftly maneuver through wooded areas.

  • Dads of Lemmy, how is your week going?
  • Yesterday I busted my butt in the crawl space reapplying insulation to my sweaty air conditioning ducts. Now, I'm sitting in the parking lot at the boat ramp waiting for the sun to burn off a little fog before I launch, so I can't complain too much.

  • Valheim - Patch 0.218.17 (Public Test) - Steam News
  • I defeated Fader for the first time last night. I definitely found Ashland's taxing because I was always being mobbed. In the end I was able to explore long distances by carrying a portal with me and making a makeshift FOB in the entry way of putrid holes. I'm glad I beat it before the nerf, but I'll enjoy exploring Ashland's much more now.

  • Morning suffering
  • I run about 20 miles a week, but I absolutely cannot run first thing in the morning. There are just too many moving parts to coordinate and I have a terrible run every time I do it. I'd much rather run in the sun or wait for dusk than do it early in the morning.

  • Do you prefer to manage your tasks digital (on phone/laptop) or physical (on paper/notebook)? Why?
  • I want to be a digital organizer, but I'm also a folder nesting whore and things get out of sight out of mind to easily. I find my daily tasks and todos are much more effective if I write them down in a small notebook that I always keep in my bag.

  • Hunter Biden convicted of three felony counts in federal gun trial
  • While I see your point, it hinges on voting for Hunter Biden in lieu of Trump. I can't say I would -- I know little of Hunter Biden's policy stances --, but I find it very far fetched to believe Hunter would get the nomination over another democratic politician, so it seems like the argument is pointless.

  • ‘Severance’ Season 2 Finally Gets First Footage as Adam Scott Returns to Lumon — With Balloons
  • I don't mean that every show is only worth two seasons, but I think a second season that focuses on Helly would be able to wrap things up nicely. I tend to prefer miniseries or 2-4 season shows, after that I really start to struggle with stories being forced for the sake of having an established audience, and I'd rather move on.

  • I need some help choosing a monitor.
  • I use a tablet as a second monitor on my Windows laptop occasionally. It's white laggy and only really good for displaying mostly static stuff. I used it for the browser to reference assignment details and other resources while I used my laptop display for my IDE. I wouldn't recommend it for gaming or videos.

  • Favorite Birding Experiences?

I see predominantly picture posts here, but I wonder if text posts have a place too. I think it would be cool to share memorable birding experiences. A few come to mind for me.

This spring I saw my first Whooping Crane. I grew up in the migration path and went looking every year. I'd seen millions of sandhill cranes. Hundreds of white spots that turned out only to be two snow geese flying together or a plastic bag waving on a corn stalk. This spring I visited my home town and it happened to be during the migration. My two year old loves birds, so I thought he'd like to see so many birds at once. Unfortunately he was more interested in sitting in the truck while I looked at birds. On the way back home, a quarter mile before getting on the highway, I saw a white spec in a field, pulled over in a farmers drive way and just knew it was it. Thirty years later, I'd finally found one. Crossing it off in the index of my Sibley's was one of the most cathartic experiences of my life.

Another experience I love is the first time I saw California condors. My family visited the Grand Canyon, and I knew there was a chance to see them. When we got there they were flying so close and I couldn't even speak. My mom still tells of me pointing and saying "C-c-c-condors!".

My grandma is the one that got me into birding. She took me on a trip to an eagle count at a lake a few hours away. We saw many eagles that day. I also saw a great horned owl in broad daylight, which I've yet to see again; I remember how yellow it's eyes were. At the end of the day we stopped at the dam and my grandma put her spotting scope on some mallards and other ducks sitting around a section of open water. While I was watching, an Eagle came up and flew right over the dam, only a few dozen feet over head, then swooped down and crushed the mallard in the spotting scope so easily. We stayed and watched it eat until it was run off by other eagles that came for an easy meal.

    No Raids?

My friend and I made a hardcore world this Monday and have been playing 6-8 hours daily, but have not had a single raid yet. We killed the first two bosses already. Maybe it's a bug with the pts? Maybe we're just incredibly lucky? I can't believe I'm asking for troll raids, but the leather would have been nice for armor.
