Black-Capped Chickadee held this pose for several long seconds before returning to his hyperactive hopping
Curious if anyone has seen this before.

Cooper’s Hawk hanging out at the park
My shop is across the street from this park so I end up hearing this one and the family quite often. The last time I saw him was at the farmer’s market. He was sitting over a vendor’s table feeding a pigeon to one of its young.

Red finch on a bird feeder
Getting very up close and personal revealed all kinds of fine detail I was personally unaware of. For example, look at that texture/pattern around the bird's eye.

Blue jay making sure they were the loudest bird in the park
Yes, they beat the red-winged blackbirds this time.
Seen yesterday in Boulder, CO, USA.

This is becoming a regular occurrence
Not sure if it's the same mourning Dove as last time but I'm only a little creeped out so it's fine, it's totally fine. This is fine.

Our local pair of sandhill cranes recently had two chicks, and they're the talk of the town

I'm not 100% on age, but I'm guessing a younger Cardinal
I shall call him Patches. Sadly, it's a name he will likely outgrow soon if he hasn't already.
A9II + Tamron 150-500 + heavy crop (the bird was ~50 feet away)

Feral Pigeons breeding on my balcony
They are really well hidden and silent, didn't even realize for two days after i came back from my holidays. I already knew this pigeon couple from before my holidays (was gone for two months), they are like the regulars in my garden.
This is the father sitting on the eggs. BTW I had made this mess deliberately to keep pigeons from trying to breed there, it seemed to work while i was at home i guess. Hope when the little ones hatch they won't fall into any gaps there.
I tried to call the local bird help, if maybe they would swap the eggs for fake ones, but i could not reach anybody, they have too much to do this time of the year and i reckon pigeons breeding on a balcony ain't no emergency either.

Western kingbird shooing off a great tailed grackle
There were a couple swooping at him for about five minutes before they finally drove him off.

Baby Jay Learns to Sing
I love Blue Jays so much. I haven't come across any jay nests myself, but I saw this and had to share!
Photos from Three Rivers Avian Center [Facebook]
>Baby blue jays are very fluffy around the neck (we call it the mink stole!) but the neck between the head and shoulders at this age is devoid of all feathers. They will grow tho. In the meantime, the voice box works just fine!

I went to the Galapagos a few years ago, and got extremely lucky
