We finally know what caused the global tech outage - and how much it cost
  • Haven't seen anything from the affected major players. Obviously Crowdstrike isn't going to say they are fucked long term, they have to act like this is just a little hiccup and move on. Lawsuits are absolutely incoming

  • Musk has always had terrible hair.. I have no idea why he always has some weak as shit moustache and beard going. I also can't grow facial hair for shit so i shave every day. I'll grow out a moustache for Christmas, but even a month's worth of growth looks thin and shitty.

    Week 27: Chocolate work - dark chocolate bundt cake

    Currently getting settled into my new apartment, but it doesn't have in unit laundry, and the laundromats around here are stupid expensive. So i hit up a friend and askedif i could do laundry at their place and baked them this cake while i was there

    Week 25: monochrome - lemon bars

    Been a busy couple weeks, but i am finally starting to get settled into my new apartment. Unpacked enough to make dinner and even bake something last night! I'm pretty crunched on time, energy, and money right now so i couldn't do anything to fancy unfortunately. But lemon bars are perfect for a hot American summer!

    Week 18: Tropical flavors - vegan pineapple/mango/macadamia biscotti

    Sorry for the infrequent posts. I lost my job and am trying to move out to Cleveland. Add some other personal stuff to the mix and it has been a rough month for me.

    But these are a gift for my best friend's birthday this weekend. She's an absolute coffee fiend. I'm not big on tropical flavors at all so I'm not really impressed by them, but here's hoping she likes them.

    Notes from baking these, but my powdered egg substitute was not useful. I had a lot of issue gettting the dough to come together and ended up using way more oil than is usually necessary for biscotti. They al holding shape, but they were definitely more crumbly than i was originally hoping for.

    Week 15: Turkey - baklava

    Been meaning to make a baklava for a few months, and figured this was the perfect time to do it! The phyllo dough took me a bit to figure out, but once i realized you just need to starch the shit out if it while rolling and just keep stacking it, it worked out great! My bottom layer is fucked, the middle one a little thick, but the top layer was absolutely magical

    Just voted in my first union election

    Started my first union job right before Thanksgiving and elections are this week. Results will be in this weekend since contract negotiations start on Tuesday. Everyone is gearing up for a big fight and i am nervous, but excited.

    Anyway, they had a trailer set up in the parking lot and the steward flagged me down to get over there and vote.

    Weeks 12/13: sponge cake/animals - zebra cakes

    Been super busy recently and have fallen behind on my baking so i decided to do a two-for-one and make zebra cakes! I even made the cake mix from scrath with gliten free flour so my friend with Celiacs could try one!

    Week 11: AI or random- "Piped" cocoa butter cookies from Sally's Baking Addiction. Failed

    I have never used any LLM's, and didn't fee like starting, so i went with a random recipe from my go to baking site. Unfortunately the batter ended up WAY too stiff and nothing i did allowed me to pipe these suckers out, so they just sorta ended up as regualr cookies, but delicious none the less.

    I do think piping would have made them better though. The center of the cookies wasn't nearly as good as the crispy outsides, and piping them would have really increased the surface area.

    I'm American, but my mom is a Geordie. We always visited my aunt when we went to England and i thought her living right next to a castle was the coolest thing ever.

    Week 6: Japan - Okonomiyaki

    Sorry i am way late on this one. I asked my uncle in Japan (he's American, just a 65 weeb currently backpacking through Japan with my aunt for their retirement) for advice on something to make. He was currently in Hiroshima and told me to try making this local street food. Unfortunately i didn't realize how hard it would be to get some of these ingredients in rural Ohio, but i finally got everything for this recipe. luckily there is an amazing little Asian grocery store in Findlay that hooked me up with everything i needed and i am incredibly happy with how they turned out!

    Week 9: Fermented ingredients - brandy chocolate truffles

    These rich truffles have a little bit of brandy as well as sour cream to create a luxurious and rich chocolate treat!

    Week 8: custard or Pudding - Yorkshire Pudding

    While i was born and raised in the American Midwest, my mom is from North Shields so i grew up eating loads of English foods, amd Yorkshire pudding was always my favorite.

    Week 7 - My Decade: pizza bagels

    My bagels turned out not so great for cream cheese, as you really need to make the hole in the middle massive, but they were excellent for homemade pizza bagels! Made a great lunch for my and my neighbors's kids!

    Week 5 : bite sized - banana cream pudding cheesecake cupcakes

    These came as a special request from a friend. I even topped them off eith caramalized bananas. I have no clue how they taste because i hate banana, but i have gotten positive reviews so far!
