can we prioritize Wi-Fi networks yet?
  • I totally agree we should have the ability to tell it what to use, and it should make a concerted effort to those in order.

Funny how many responses you’re getting to the effect of explaining why your phone is doing what it’s doing, which is not at all what you asked. People feel the absolute need to spew, regardless of whether they actually have anything to contribute. Or, they’re bots guessing at what you wanted lol.

So okay all the must-say-somethings, shoot your load and leave lol. We’ll be sure to downvote appropriately. The standard routine continues.

  • Will Linux’s New run0 Command Run sudo Out of Town?
  • I’m surprised they would implement having just run0 effectively log you in as root. For the super security conscious constrictions of the command versus sudo, it would seem that the very notion of elevating your privilege beyond the single command to be carried out, would be anathema to the whole goal of this new command. Evidently not, but it’s surprising to me.

  • why isn't anyone calling for Trump to drop out.
  • I don’t know if you’ve been not paying attention but even if he’s not elected, he will never see the inside of a jail cell. Trump is untouchable. I’m not sure why, most people speculate he has dirt on some very powerful people - really serious dirt on many really powerful people. That’s only speculation, but if you recall during his first campaign he bragged about how much he was loved and worshiped he said he could walk out of Trump tower onto Fifth Avenue, and shoot someone dead in broad daylight and he would never face any consequences whatsoever. And he was right.

  • Why do many search engines seem to ignore operators (e.g. exact phrases, term exclusions, OR, etc.)? Is there a good reason for having a dumb 1997-level search logic that I'm not seeing?
  • I said so-fucking-long to Google long ago and switched to DuckDuckGo. If I ever get really nowhere and think maybe googs might have a result for me, then on the Duck you just use a !g before your terms and it facilitates the search thru Google but without their ads.

Their focus shifted long ago from being the best to just figuring out new ways to get more out of users, no matter how deceitful and manipulative they need to be.

  • GNOME June 2024: C'mon you can do better
  • So, copying is making something identical. But something that’s different would rationally be called not copying, whereas you categorize it as poor copying. Interesting.

Ever hear of two things just being similar? We are talking about a UI - these things have always followed patterns that change as usage patterns change in the industry. I think you must be young and/or inexperienced because this kind of trend goes back to the ‘80s.

  • ‘We all watched it vanish’: Dozens reportedly saw bizarre UFO at Red Rocks
  • Could have been a drone, as someone else suggested. At a concert venue such as Red Rocks they use drones for some of the overhead footage, don’t they? Plus, literally everyone has a mobile device and many newer ones do exceptionally good nighttime filming. Nobody thought to get something recorded?

  • People doing the 30 days linux Challenge are having several problems because of Mint's old packages and technology. Why people still recommend it when there is Fedora and Opensuse with KDE and Gnome?
  • I never recommend Mint! It’s like it became this de facto distro to steer newbies toward just because it sort of kind of looks like Windows? Elementary OS is simple, polished, elegant and in a good way less customizable so the user can just get to work.

Alternatively if they want something more familiar like the start menu there’s KDE on Ubuntu or OpenSUSE, among others.

Mint was impressive like fifteen years ago; it’s still fine, but nothing in particular makes it more appealing than some of the ones I mentioned which have significant advantages.
