Different sort settings for Home versus Communities
I know the dev is buried in some deadlines, but I wanted to post a feature request for when things pick back up on the Bean side.
Would it be possible to have different sort settings for the main Home feed and the Community feeds? I’d like to be able to sort by “Hot” or “Top” with all read posts hidden while scrolling on the Home feed, but sort by “New” without read posts hidden while in specific communities.
Sorting by “Top” with read posts hidden leaves virtually every community empty at the moment, so it’s a few extra steps to bring everything back.
Thanks Steve!
Mod Tools
Would love to see some mod tools added to the app. Happy to help test and provide feedback on them if needed.
Edit grouped community after creation
I can’t seem to find a way to edit a grouped community list once it’s created. I would love to be able to add or remove communities from the group.
If it exists and I’m missing where to do it, please let me know.
Widgets. I'll subscribe to Pro for them
Please add widget support to Bean. I'll even subscribe to Pro for them. I just need a great lemmy app that has widgets like the Apollo app had. Thanks
Edit 1: fuck it. I just subscribed to Pro. Bean is hands down the best lemmy app for iOS. I've literally tested them all; their stable and TestFlight versions. Hopefully my sub to Pro can help keep active development to Bean. Fingers crossed for widgets (っಠ‿ಠ)っ
Discovery Mode
When browsing Subscribed page, add in some random high ranking articles from other random communities (with a marker to show it’s not part of your subscribed /c) this can allow you to discover new places without browsing in All.
Translation inside app
It would be nice if, for example, on iOS devices in settings such as Mona for mastodon, we could choose if we want to translate through Google translator or, for example, Apple's own translator, leaving a window that directly translates things for you instead of opening a window to your browser redirecting to Google translator.
An example:
Inline video playback
I would be nice to have inline/embedded video playback directly in feeds and/or in the post view (with or without auto play, that could be a user setting).
Currently the experience for me is not ideal, a YouTube video opened in the in-app browser can’t be viewed in landscape mode because the in-app browser locks into portrait mode, which can be a pain, but maybe I’m missing something.
Translation
Hi,
Would you consider adding a feature to translate a selected post ?
That’s the last feature missing to totally replace Apollo 😇
Thanks a lot!
Methods to Switch Accounts
In addition to the current method of switching accounts, would it be possible to also add a long press of the avatar on the Navigation Bar? That’d allow for switching accounts from any screen. Just a thought. Thanks!
Search within community
This is a feature I miss from Reddit/apps that would be useful as the fediverse grows!
I see it's at least possible to search within communities and/or by creator through lemmy on the web, but it's a little awkward with the steps needed: navigate to search, choose search type and sort preference, search for specific community/person, enter search term. (It's also lacking in clarity as the community/creator fields get wiped after I've made my selections.)
If there were a redundant, faster way to search for posts or comments within the community directly from the community view, that would be even better than what exists now. Regardless, any implementation would be helpful!
making Community links clickable
In this post are links to communities that aren’t clickable. Are you planing to implement that, so I can click the link and the proper community will show up?
[edit] I also just noticed that clicking the link above will open the browser and not in app. In app would be cool too…
Show Read Posts on Community Pages
It would be great to complement the Hide Read Posts feature with an additional option to allow read posts to be shown on Community pages.
Compact Mode for Comments
To my eyes, post comments in Bean are drawn with a fair bit of extra whitespace/padding, which increases the amount of scrolling required when reading comments. It would be great if Bean had a "compact" display setting for comments that reduced the padding and packed comments together more densely.
Thank you for considering my request and for all of the work you do on Bean!
Posting to /c/Bean in Bean App
It would be great when creating a post specifically in the Bean community whilst using the Bean app if you get an option to preselect if it's a Bug/Feature Request/Other post and then it automatically prepends the title with the relevant tag and includes the device and app version details etc at the top of the post.
Suggestion: when viewing a profile, clicking on a comment should take you to that thread/comment chain
I’m sure it’s a planned feature but it’s just something I noticed that would be an improvement
Thanks for the awesome app!
Sort Comments
Sort comments by New/Hot/Top/Controversial/etc
Would love to see this implemented…unless I’m blind and it already is?
Viewing Communities' instances (e.g. [email protected]) and Users' Instances
I don't know if it's a bug or if the feature hasn't been implemented because the "Show Fediverse Address" option doesn't seem to do anything.
It would be good to see the communities' instances like this: [email protected]. I've joined several communities with the same name on different instances (e.g. [email protected], [email protected]) and it will be good to know which one I'm looking at.
As for users, perhaps have an option to display the instance of the user.
Please move the "Bookmarks" category
I would find it way more logical and accesible to have my bookmarks under profile section where currently there are "posts" and "comments" options to click on. Really confused as of why it is currently being treated as a feed option! Thanks a lot.
auto collapse top level comments
Apollo had the option to have all of the comments collapse to only show the top level ones. This would be a great addition.
Ability to swipe to close an image opened from a post
I love this app so far, but one thing I really miss from using Apollo is how much could be done by simple gestures.
Can you please add the ability to close post images with a swipe gesture?
I find I have to tap on an image once or twice to make the “X” appear, so I close it (after I have habitually tried to swipe it to close a few times)
