Sharing this here because Team Kirby Clash & Kirby and the Rainbow Curse both have SpotPass data that needs to be preserved.

so i was looking deeper into how cages work in forgotten land, and...

...cages in kirby and the forgotten land are... weird. somehow the act of simply touching them causes them to colourfully disintegrate. and what exactly does it look like when dedede/sillydillo swings a cage and catches elfilin/kirby inside?
i looked at slowed-down footage. the cage is actually already closed when they're swinging the thing. kirby/elfilin just straight up clips into the closed cage. and when you mash your way out of the cage, kirby just simply clips out of the cage -- what you see in the image.

decided to overhaul my program for turning scripts for new world friends chat into actual series of text boxes. support for bold and italics! the ability to put text boxes side by side! and in general, a more cohesive design that made the above things -- and some other things as well -- possible! took quite a while, and required a lot of thinking, but i'm pretty proud of the final result.
and what better way to celebrate than by implementing a meme idea i've vaguely had for some time now! the "full-speed farewell" part of the song title "a full speed farewell from the new world" is kinda interesting, given that the song plays when you're trying to ram a big rig into someone. more like a full-speed farewell from the mortal realm.
and, well, if there's one thing in the new world that could provoke that kind of retaliation from kirby, it's probably kidnapping his new friend elfilin. and that's the basis for this post, expressed through a variation of this meme.

it's been a while since i've last posted one of these, hasn't it? some of it was just life getting in the way, but i also worked on two other scripts before deciding to save those for later installments.
for those who don't know, this is the third installment of a series that i'm doing in which kirby, bandana dee, and elfilin do and talk about various stuff, told through a sequence of undertale-style text boxes. it was meant to be a way for me to contribute reasonably lowish-effort yet highish-quality content to this community on a regular basis.
...yeah the "regular basis" thing didn't entirely work out this time.
anyway, hope you enjoy! feel free to give any questions, comments, and criticism you have!

i'm gonna use this thread as a place to post status updates on the project
i got kirby, bandee, and elfilin's neutral sprites done yesterday, as well as all of the coding until i realized i should probably do some stuff to make line wrapping and text overflow less painful to deal with. today i'll be working on that, as well as the rest of the dialogue portraits. will hopefully be less of a pain now that i have base images to build off of.

i'm just gonna use this as my place for dumping small observations that don't deserve a full thread
will probably be too preoccupied with another thing to contribute content to c/kirby over the next few days, so have this little thing before then:
here's a thing i learned while making something that i'll hopefully be able to show c/kirby sometime:
the b section of dedede's theme, added in super star, is subtly different in most renditions of the theme (as far as i can tell) in modern games (return to dreamland onward). here's super star's version against star allies's version for reference. by "b section", i mean the 16 measures from the beginning of the timestamp until the point where the song loops.
- the lead-in note to measure 1 (and the more subtle lead-in notes to measure 7) -- only there in the old versions of the theme. in contrast, the lead-in notes to measure 5 continue to be there, and there were never any lead-in notes to measure 3 to begin with. (you can split 0:28-0:40 KSS / 0:57-1:10 KSA into 4 "phrases" (not trying to use that word in the technical music theory sense) -- measures 1, 3, 5, and 7 refer to the first measure of each phrase. first and last phrase have pickup notes only in the KSS version; regardless of version, second phrase never has any pickup notes and third phrase always has pickup notes.)
- the rhythm for the second half of the section -- in particular, measures 9 and 10 [0:40-0:43 KSS / 1:10-1:13 KSA] -- is different.

the apple juice song from the kirby memorial arrangements (link to english fan translation) is an adorable vocal arrangement of the apple scramble theme from kirby battle royale that gives a lot of insight into bandana dee's thoughts and motivations
all of the anime openings (english, japanese 1, japanese 2, italian) are also all great in their own ways
