Maybe it's actually spelled menopaws because men can't keep their paws off us.

Pretty sure it was named after the French village Mini-Opuasé where it was discovered in the 1800's.
It's a portmanteau of "Minnow Palls," because doctors used to believe it was caused by a cloud of small fish surrounding those experiencing it.
