Real house flipping.
  • I'm sure the builders were paid extremely well for their troubles, so they can afford the cost of living and they can all buy their own houses.

haha jk I know that's not how the real world works. The people who work the hardest get paid the least and they can barely survive.

  • But I need it!
  • The last few months I've gone the opposite extreme: Hoarding all my paychecks and buying NOTHING even though there are so many things I need to buy. Watching the paychecks accumulate is becoming an obsession and now I'm becoming a rich miserly scrooge bwah-ah-ah!

  • Foxes marriage
  • If you had sex and she started to smell horribly within the next couple days, you probably gave her bacterial vaginosis, which is common when women have new or numerous sexual partners. Her doctor can prescribe an antibiotic and she will smell fresh again within a few days. Notwithstanding that stench which requires medical intervention, I'm pretty sure all sexually-active civilized humans wash their genitals in the shower. Strange that you think some women don't know how to wash themselves and you think she smells bad on purpose to repel you.

  • Big Kone lies
  • This reminds me of a Hank Green YouTube short: "Do dogs understand the concept of elevators?" The greentext up there was from the perspective of your dog, except he believes & trusts everything without too much analyzing, because he loves you.

  • How to delete places I've saved in Google maps? there is no delete button.

I'm tired of these places coming up in all my searches because I will never go back to these places again.

All this mindfulness & breathing bullshit that "healthcare" industry tries to push on people who are depressed and anxious

is just a Band-Aid. The root cause of people's misery is that society is built around capitalism and not human wellness. So they tell us all to breathe and meditate in order to cope in our fucked up society that is driven by capitalism and we are the capitalist slaves. How about we put human wellness at the forefront of society's priorities instead of money? we'd all be a lot less stressed out. mindfulness and breathing comes naturally when you're not a corporate slave.

Toilets with automatic flush sensors: Some are glitchy, they flush while you're still sitting there, but they don't flush after you stand up. What causes that glitch & can it be fixed?

DAE have the experience that Microsoft OneDrive is fking frustrating & could be remedied on their end?

I've been using it for years and for the most part if you want to go back and access a video you uploaded, it stalls and buffers and makes the videos useless to watch without redownloading them to your device.

Also when you are uploading and creating folders, when you want to deposit something into a folder it kicks you back out to the parent menu and you have to scroll back down and find the folder you made again, it constantly kicks you back out to the previous level and you have to start all over again.

I'm pretty sure technology has advanced to the point that this frustrating glitch could be easily remedied on their end.

And if you upload something from your device to onedrive in order to free up some space on your device, You better wait at least a day before deleting it from your device, otherwise when you go back to access it on Microsoft OneDrive, you might find that it doesn't exist because you deleted it too soon from your device after uploading to OneDrive, even after visually and experientially confirming that it did indeed upload to OneDrive.

I switched to Microsoft OneDrive after deciding that Dropbox sucks. Dropbox sucks because it requires to use Microsoft Windows, otherwise it will take up all the storage space on your device unless you go deep into some settings in Microsoft Windows to untoggle that "option." So I tried to untoggle that option by using someone else's Microsoft Windows for a minute but I couldn't find the obscure settings for this obscure problem, and I don't have nor want Microsoft Windows, it is extortionate.

The only reason I ended up with Microsoft OneDrive was that I was in a pinch and I needed a cloud storage solution to replace Dropbox because Dropbox had rendered my phone useless by maxxing out its internal storage.

I haven't delved into the Linux options yet, I need to work on synchronizing all my devices with Linux and getting rid of windows & Google. I'm so sick of their extortionate practices.

If a car was in a severe-ish accident...?

... and the only place to emergency park was in a touristy area where all the parking lots require a fee, would that accident-car have to pay for parking there while he's in a crisis?

My new job wants me to write a bio for all of our clients and colleagues to see, but here's what's really going on in my mind if I could write an honest bio:

I have no choice but to work a job for survival although I am in constant pain, my feet, my legs, my back, my shoulders, which is ironic because here I am as your massage therapist so you might assume we're impervious to pain, But no, not only am I your licensed massage therapist but I am first & foremost a Disabled Army Veteran but I have no choice but to work because all my disability benefits are being garnished by the government.

Ideally to heal my pain, I would rest and exercise and do yoga all day which is what I really need to do, but that won't earn me money to survive, and if I don't earn money to survive then I cannot survive. So I have no choice but to work a job, and if I could have any job in the world I wanted, it would be this job, as a licensed massage therapist here in this oceanfront Spa at this exclusive Beach Club that charges members $7,000 to join and $1,000 a month club dues, yes this is an exclusive club and I am grateful you hired me to work here,

I went to school for this, and jumped through so many legal hoops and bureaucratic documentation and licensing and testing in several different states just to have this job, So I'm investing myself into this job because I've already invested so much effort into it, and I don't want to jump through any other hoops for any other job because I'm already exhausted.

although what I really want to do is be a yoga teacher but I tried that and it only pays $25 a week and I cannot survive on $25/week, so I'm sticking with this job as a massage therapist and I'm grateful you hired me because this spa is on the beach and we can literally see the ocean from our windows and front promenade and it is so beautiful. And an employee benefit you offer us is a cafeteria with free food during our breaks and that is amazing. I'm grateful to work here,

but let me be clear that I do not want to work AT ALL and I need to rest and my body is in constant pain and I literally have disability benefits so I shouldn't be working but the government /IRS is garnishing all of my disability benefits because of something stupid my ex-husband did 10 years ago, So I have no choice but to work this job, and if I must work a job, this is the best one. But I am worried I will not be able to keep up and I will be so exhausted that I simply can't do it anymore, and then what? I will die because we need money to survive and if I don't work then I won't have money. And mind you, death from lack of money is not a quick instant painless death. No, it's a slow horrible undignified demise.

I will honestly tell you, along the same vein of preferring to be a yoga teacher if it only paid a living wage because that would be better for my body and my health, I've also thought of being an exotic dancer so I can climb a pole and be upside down and exercise which is what I crave, so much better than standing on these hard floors all day bending over massage clients, Oh it's 3:45 a.m. and my body is still throbbing in pain from the prior day of work, but I chose this vocation as a massage therapist because it is respectable, and guaranteed steady income as long as I can tolerate the pain and keep showing up to work every day,

whereas being an exotic dancer would not be respectable, and also I don't have the personality or the street smarts to be an exotic dancer. I would just like the physicality of it, climbing, stretching, dancing, that's what my body needs to do.

    YouTube implements "vote fuzzing," right?

I don't really care how many people see my videos or if nobody sees them at all, because they're just clips of happy moments in my life for my own memories, but a few days ago I posted a video and it got

Day one: 4 views and one thumbs up.

Day two: 1 view and no thumbs up 🤔

Day three: ZERO VIEWS and one thumbs up.

I find this hilarious. and miffed at YouTube for manipulating things for no reason.

I'm pretty sure even based on viewer response, "views" cannot go backwards LOL.

[SOLVED!] On an Android phone is there an open source method of compressing files?

I have to submit a document for employment and they want my passport but my passport photo is 5.49 MB and they say you can't upload anything more than 5 MB. How can I shrink that file on my android phone without paying some service?

Is there a way to block specific users from viewing my YouTube channel?

Seriously, I have a stalker and I CAN'T HELP posting videos about where I am and what I'm doing, and I have a feeling I'm going to need a gun to protect myself from this guy.

I'd rather just block him from ever seeing my videos.

Can the salty ocean air satisfy our essential daily sodium nutrient needs?

Humans need approx 1tsp (or less) of sodium daily as an essential nutrient. I was low on sodium this morning* then spent the day at the beach in the salty ocean air, then within about 30 minutes I wasn't dizzy and nauseous anymore. Did the ocean air provide me sodium somehow?

*(dizzy & nauseous, I know the symptoms well since I often have no sodium in my diet and I've learned this through experience the last 5 years and I have to consciously remember to add sodium to my diet, and if I forget then I have dizziness and nausea)

Reddit wouldn't let me post this for some reason, Maybe because that subreddit r/askadoctor is dead, there have been no posts there for 3 years, so instead of abandoning my attempt at a post, I screenshat it and posting it here on Lemmy.

For months it wouldn't even turn on or charge, today it finally turned on, it let out an unholy weird BEEP and now I see this screen. I hit F9 and press enter and it does nothing. please advise.

Why is sourdough bread shaped like a big rock which causes each slice to be a different size?

The slices in the middle are big, and the slices on the end are so small. Why can't they make it a rectangle with equally-sized square slices?

I set my filter to no longer show me posts with the word "trump." several hours later, I'm still seeing Trump posts.

Do I need to log out? then log back in? I don't want to. But if logging out/in is necessary to refresh my filter settings, I will. I searched for a way to log out/ in but I can't find it, but I will look harder if I need to. Let me know, or anything else I need to do to stop seeing Trump posts. Thanks.

For those who aren't burdened with chronic or intermittent depression, how does that feel?

When you're lonely, you don't become cripplingly hopeless and withdraw from life? You just contact some friends or easily make new friends and have a good time and carry on with life?

When you're driving your car and everything is fine until you come to a stoplight, you don't suddenly become depressed at the stoplight like I do?

When you wake up every morning, you don't have crippling existential dread? You just get up and go about your day cheerfully, without analyzing the futile meaninglessness of the big picture?

Bill Cosby: a latent memory resurfaced in my mind

Yes it's currently 2024 but some memories resurface in my head sometimes and I finally want to write them down.

A quick refresher for you regarding the Bill Cosby scandal:

In the 1970s & 1980s he had a secret hobby of drugging & raping unwitting women, and it wasn't widely known about /prosecuted until 40-ish years later.

Now, before his scandal was discovered, you might recall he had a successful, much-loved, long-running sitcom on TV, the Cosby Show, in which he appointed his own character's profession as gynecologist, Doctor Huxtable.

In hindsight now, we can surmise that if Bill Cosby hadn't been an actor, his dream job would've been probing women's vaginas all day for a living.

(That's my first resurfaced latent memory, that his character Dr Huxtable was a gynecologist in that show, meanwhile IRL in his free time he was drugging & raping women)

Furthermore, several of his Cosby Show episodes showed that Dr Huxtable had a gynecology office IN HIS HOUSE, IN HIS BASEMENT where he would invite his gynecology patients into his house 😱

(That's my second resurfaced latent memory on this topic.)

Ladies, how inappropriate would it feel to have a gynecologist appointment AT YOUR GYNECOLOGIST'S HOUSE, and IN HIS BASEMENT??

And your gynecologist is BILL COSBY who drugs & rapes women⁉️

    OML I just can't even.

Do you hear me? Literally during the years he was IRL drugging & raping unwitting women, he assigned himself a Hollywood role as a GYNECOLOGIST who had a gynecology office IN HIS HOUSE BASEMENT.

One more detail while we're on this topic, In my own life in 1989 I was a 14-year old little girl, and in 1989 The Cosby Show was at the height of its popularity and everything seemed to be going fine in the Cosby Show realm.

Meanwhile, in Long Beach California I was scheduled for a surgical procedure and I opted for general anesthesia because the idea of being awake during my surgery was not appealing to me,

so as I was going under, my anesthesiologist was checking in with me to determine the moment I went unconscious, you know how they engage you in conversation so they can ascertain your level of consciousness. Well the last thing my anesthesiologist asked me before I went under was

    "Do you like Bill Cosby?"

I had enough time to process the question while I was laying there about to be gassed, but not enough time to respond before I literally went under.

The way I mentally processed it before I had time to respond was, "well that's a random question but sure, Bill Cosby is a great guy, great show, upstanding citizen, on his TV show he portrays a good wholesome father and a professional doctor, Bill Cosby is also a stand-up comedian and he's written a couple books and my dad even has one of his books on his bookshelf, a birthday gift from one of his brothers, what's not to love? sure yeah I like Bill Cosby."

But that question that came out of left field from my anesthesiologist as I'm vulnerably trustingly laying on the table about to go unconscious, " Do you like Bill Cosby?"

in retrospect has not only endured as a rather creepy vivid memory to me, but also leads me to speculate that my anesthesiologist may have been somehow aware of what Bill Cosby was up to in his free time even in the current year 1989,

and you know anesthesiologists have access to drugs that make people unconscious. and how vulnerable patients are when unconscious and completely in the care and at the mercy of their doctors.

It's all just very creepy to me in retrospect.

No, I'm not speculating that I was abused at any point during that process, there were many doctors there and I was in good care

but just the things I mentioned earlier are creepy enough.

Vote fuzzing. Are we seriously doing this here now too??

You know we all escaped Reddit for greener pastures. But I have increasingly noticed that greener pastures are not to be found in the Fediverse either.

I undeniably witnessed some vote fuzzing this morning and I feel a bit psychologically violated whenever I notice people or companies or platforms engaging in psychological manipulation.

It does make me feel livid.

    Update - case closed because:

    ------ Wisdom from [email protected]

    >There is no vote fuzzing in Lemmy. The software doesn’t support it. Period.

    >I’ve been paying attention to the Lemmy mod tools and Lemmy admin Matrix rooms, and it’s been the subject of major discussion over the past week between one or two users who keep bringing it up and, like, everyone else (including the Lemmy devs) who are all like, “no, not now, not ever.”

    >It’s not a thing.

    >SO, what could explain what you’re seeing?

    >Possible explanations include:

    >Vote brigading

    >Alt account abuse

    >A genuine statistical fluke where there are genuine votes that are producing this bizarre pattern, and hopefully it will subside soon along with your reasonably justified paranoia.

    >The solution to all of these possibilities, and possibly others that I did not enumerate here, is to just ignore the problem and move on with your life. Remember: nothing that happens here is really important.

    >I really hope this makes you feel better. Because it should.
