Crazy. May be a bug wherein a flag hasn't been properly set. If it is intentional, I've never seen it happen myself.
He disappeared pretty quickly. I think he went up the stairs like he was heading back to the goo boss level. If he stayed on this floor I haven't seen him since.
I want to say this is a rare easter egg, because I believe it happened in one of my runs once. Rat King was confused about why he was there and went back to his people.
