What was/is the most annoying thing about Windows when you were/are using it?
  • I've spent the entire morning trying to install sql 2022 and it fails on a mysterious error message. The suggested fixes don't work.

I'll have the same problems on Linux occasionally but at least I did not pay to have those issues.

  • Linus Torvalds reckons AI is ‘90% marketing and 10% reality’
  • Like with any new technology. Remember the blockchain hype a few years back? Give it a few years and we will have a handful of areas where it makes sense and the rest of the hype will die off.

Everyone sane probably realizes this. No one knows for sure exactly where it will succeed so a lot of money and time is being spent on a 10% chance for a huge payout in case they guessed right.

  • What subscription services do you actually pay for and get value from?
  • Spotify. I started paying because I got fed up with shuffling my mp3 files from one place to another.

80% of the time I'm not angry at them. This day and age that is a high score. Hey Spotify: if you want to improve your score fix your recommendations during Eurovision Song Contest. There is nothing in my playlists that suggests that I'll even be remotely interested.

  • ELI5: What's the point of court confessions?
  • A lot of the time it's obvious who did it.

The court proceedings is about how harsh they sentence the accused, not finding out if they did it.

If they confess and show regret they may get a less harsh sentence.

  • Has anyone regretted buying a fully electric car?
  • Last time I had to buy a new car was 2022.

Based on my driving habits and needs total cost per km driven was 3 times as high for electric.

Most of it being purchase price of the car. There were no used electric cars that has the winter time range so I had to compare a used gas vs new top of the line electric.

  • How do you prepare to vote?
  • I don't vote in the US (fortunately?). You mainly vote for a party. There are 8 of them in the Parliament and none near 50% so they negotiate and eventually 50% of the MPs agree on a government and a prime minister.

We have various websites and news outlets that are mostly neutral that make "election compasses" that lets you answer a bunch of questions regarding various topics and sorts parties based on how close they match yours.

I'll take a closer look at the most aligned ones.
