RCV for primary and general elections will appear on the ballot in Idaho this November
Explaining how ballot issue would change Idaho elections
Earlier this month a Superior Court trial wrapped up in a key case that may well decide whether Alaskans get a shot at repealing the state’s highly controversial ranked choice voting system.
I chose "RCV" as the wording only because that's the most commonly used term for the most commonly used alternative voting system that's gaining the most traction inside the US.
I don't have a strong opinion about which one of the systems that isn't FPTP is the best. Mainly I think it would be better to build momentum behind switching to something that is better than what we're doing now.
"So why should they change a system that works just fine for the politicians? Because it no longer works for the people, and it is the will of the people that matters."
It was disappointing to hear about the recent banning of ranked-choice voting (RCV) methods in five Republican-led states with Missouri apparently soon to follow, bringing the number of states now
Oregon will vote on Ranked Choice Voting in this year's election
The Oregon Legislature on Sunday's final day of the session passed House Bill 2004, which puts a proposal to move to ranked choice voting for federal and statewide races on the statewide ballot in November 2024.
That's a good point. I'll make a post making it clear that any content related to systems other than FPTP that is getting some traction would be welcome, too. Getting rid of FPTP is the main goal, not RCV for the sake of RCV in opposition to any other system.
Anything is better than what we've got. Unifying around one fairly good method that's leaps and bounds better than FPTP and then if that works, trying to use the momentum to get somewhere better than that, seems better than fracturing the effort all over the place while most of the US is still using the world's worst system in the present.
It could be any country. My part of it will be US focused but anywhere in the world that it's happening is welcome.
