why am i having trouble creating a community?
  • Did you do it via url as above? They dont show up from what i can tell with the ! Syntax. If you did the url then i have no idea

  • On which instance should I create communities?
  • That is what i am doing for [email protected]. tmobile is a US carrier and my instance is Canadian so its a bit odd to host it here

  • why am i having trouble creating a community?
  • The community likely already exists and has been deleted by its creator. The creators account may also be deleted. Try yourinstance.tld/c/communityname to see if anything comes up. If so you may need to message your server admins from the sidebar

  • A few announcements
  • Thank you for all your hard work. I am considering moving to monero.house in future just because i think it would allign more directly with my interests, but we shall see. Their methods of screening out bots are interesting as you can either ask to join via twitter/reddit account with history or pay 0.01XMR and give the transaction ID

  • Google glass was my thought too. It was just way ahead of its time, but google absolutely had the right idea

  • Do People Actually Want to Wear a Headset All the Time?
  • I think it needs to be a set of glasses and we need better battery tech before that can really happen. Solid state batteries will be needed since their energy density is so much higher. As a low vision user i can think of an immediate use as a magnification device. Actual magnifiers dont work well for me but software magnification does. Therefore i could magnify my surroundings to read signs, etc.

  • The Lemmy fediverse is booming
  • Same. While i have had this account for over a year i am just now really diving into it. I have been a mastodon user for years but just never had a reason to come and really kick the tires on lemmy

  • The SEC is suing Binance, the world’s largest crypto exchange
  • Preaching to the choir, but sing it. I am getting my money out of the dollar just as fast as i can so when the ship sinks i wont go down with it. I will give away my dollars while some other poor sap still values them. I can take out small dollar based loans against my crypto too because it will be easier to pay back the loan in the future thanks to inflation devaluing the dollar.

    Edit: spelling

  • Argentina's peso continues its slide to lows not seen for decades
  • This is so sad. These people know what its like to not trust their governmyth. A lesson that a lot of people in "stable" countries would do well to learn before its to late

  • Putting keepass and syncthing together is a match made in heaven

  • Reminder to backup your cloud password manager
  • Keepass all the way friends. Synced via flash drive or syncthing>

  • The SEC is suing Binance, the world’s largest crypto exchange
  • The SEC is nothing but a bully who is being told by higher ups to help stop crypto since governmyth cant control it. News flash, crypto is here to stay and governmyths will fail as always.

  • Is there a way to set "Subscribed" as default view?
  • Odd, changing it and clicking save worked for me

  • Welcome, new users!
  • Will you accept monero?

  • Welcome, new users!
  • For me its

    • The Martian, and Artemis by Andy Weir
    • Termination Shock by Neil Stephenson
    • 2001, 2010, 2061, 3001 Odyssey series by Arthur C Clarke
    • lots of David Brin
    • lots of Greg Bear
    • One Second After (series) by William Forstchen
    • The Wool Omnibus (series) by Hugh Howey
    • Beacon 23 by Hugh Howey
    • After Sundown by Linda Howard
    • Solar Flare by Larry Burkett
    • etc

I really enjoy books with a solar flare componet due to my being a ham radio op. I also love apocolypse books of nearly any type. Just no zombies as they freak me out

  • Reddit has permanently suspended my account for supporting Lemmy.
  • Fwwl proud. Be proud to have been kicked off. Means they are afraid>

  • ‘Bye, bye birdie’: EU bids farewell to Twitter as company pulls out of code to fight disinformation
  • Man, that was really hard to read with a screen reader with all the random capitals. You have to read differing viewpoints and come up with your own conclusions.

Also, for the record, 5G does not cause cancer and is not a method to mind control humans or cook us. The new mmWave frequencies are seriously attenuated by just rain and totally blocked by skin. Plus RF power falls off with the square of distance. Standing a normal distance from a cell tower the sun is more harmful.

  • ‘Bye, bye birdie’: EU bids farewell to Twitter as company pulls out of code to fight disinformation
  • Of course they do, but doing your own research is the way to fix it, not suppressing a viewpoint you dont like. I should be able to say whatever i like as that is my choice. However, it is your choice whether or not to block me if you dont like my views

    Blocklist

Is there a list of blocked instances somewhere? I was trying to interact with a thread from lemmygrad i found on lemmy.ml but could not get it to come up in search. This makes me assume its blocked

    Lemmy seems somewhat centralizing

Due to lemmys focus on communities instead of individuals it seems like some level of centralization is going to occur or already has. As an example [email protected] is going to be a way more active community than [email protected]. now if i run a terrible server called terribleserver.net and lemmy.ml bans it as they should then nobody on terribleserver.net will be able to interact with the largest communities such as !privacy, !technology, etc. Other servers may have their own versions of these but they will most likely be rarely used. Mind, i doubt lemmy.ml's mods would do this, but a rogue mod could really break things by just banning other instances for no reason. I have been on mastodon for years but am decently new to lemmy so if i am misunderstanding this please correct me
