Turn-Based RPG Where You Learned a Skill Mid-Battle That Was Required to Defeat the Enemy
  • I guess by "kinda of like final fantasy" I really meant the first Final Fantasy. I should also specify by right I mean the side of the screen the player's right hand would hold if the screen was a handheld, just for clarity's sake.

  • This wasn't it either unfortunately. The game I remember laid out the players on the right side of the screen and enemies on the left side, kind of like final fantasy (through I don't remember it being specifically being a Final Fantasy game)

Turn-Based RPG Where You Learned a Skill Mid-Battle That Was Required to Defeat the Enemy

I recall seeing this game in a video a long while ago about soft-locks in games iirc.

From what I remember the game seemed like a traditional retro JRPG with pixel art graphics and turn-based combat with stats, HP/MP, levels, and magic skills. I suspect it predates the N64 due to it being more reminiscent of SNES RPGs in terms of style but I'm not sure.

The party was visible along side the enemy and I think it was four members in the party?

The defining feature I remember from this game was that there was an encounter with an enemy where at some point in the battle you would learn a skill you have to use to defeat this enemy. But the video I watched also described a quirk where for some reason the character may not learn the skill leading to a soft-lock where the player has to reset the encounter.

I think the skill was a fire skill as well but it's possible I'm also misremembering that.

Edit: I think the video game came from an Outsidexbox/Outside Xtra video if anyone is looking.

Edit 2: This is incredibly dubious but from what I remember the enemy might've been on horseback?

Fuck it, give me your most OVERRATED Distros
  • Currently my answer is ubuntu. I tried to use lubuntu recently but just so much wasn't working out of the box like nm-applet wasn't running on startup. The apt package manager is really tedious to use too.

This could also be boiled down to my general incompetence when it comes to Ubuntu based systems though :p

  • [@linux](https://lemmy.ml/c/linux) any global mesh networks that could replace ISP's?
  • From what I understand it's the final form of decentralization. The idea is that a bunch of user/community owned computers communicate with each other and act like an alternative community based internet provider. Big cities already implement some form of this like NYC.

  • what got you into privacy in the first place?
  • i somehow stumbled across duckduckgo and ended up reading its write up on why we need to use google search alternatives. The big one that clicked with me was how google can (and likely does) manipulate search results based on race and other factors. it immediately clicked why so many people are so self confirmed in their own biases and how to protect free and rational discourse we need to protect privacy.

  • Most uncomplicated Printer that just works™?
  • I've had my MX490 for 2 years and i think it works pretty well. Generally speaking, the CUPS setup is far easier with Airprint printers so if you're interested in that I'd pick up a printer that supports AirPrint. Arch wiki has more info on set up it needed

What screen locker do you use and why?

Or do you not use one? If so why?
