Happy Fathers Day

Seriously the only episode of the television that can get me to cry EVERY. TIME.

Biden administration adds insulin to drug price negotiation list in major blow to big pharma
  • You know who the real enemy in all of this is.....

Anyone is making a fraction of a cent off of squeezing the literal life out of American citizens by keeping their money invested in "big pharma". I am more than sure there are walking hypocrites out there that have had a loved one die while making money off their death.

If you care about this issue, tell everyone you know to de-invest in these companies.

Fuck them and their sociopathic ways.

  • NYC bans TikTok on city-owned devices
  • 1.) its usually a single persons job to do "social media outreach", not most of the employees

2.) People shouldn't be using their personal devices to do government work, period.

3.) slippery slope? why would someone use queer dating apps on their GOVERNMENT device? this is a stupid argument

4.) This is about GOVERNMENT, not private business. You are conflating the two.

  • TIL about the greek question mark ;;;;;;;;;;

TIL about the greek question mark

Tell me, can you tell the difference between these two characters?

    Hydro Homies unite!
  • naw man, fuck that the only thing water boarding (and torture in general) does is get people to say whatever they can to make it stop. I just realized.... with that as a tool, you could get any name you want out of anyone you're torturing :(

  • A funder for 'Sound of Freedom,' a QAnon-adjacent film about child sex trafficking, has been charged with accessory to child kidnapping
  • I haven't seen the film or heard much about it, only seen a preview before gaurdians but

    How is this film QAnon-adjacent?

(and how is it that anti-pedophilia is now only a right wing thing when the church has been fucking children for decades? dont let em have it....)

  • Someone spent their time, money, and effort to write this in the sky
  • oh its 5 planes? I thought this was some kind of laser that somehow activated the sky's icecrystals like .... sigh .... "chem"trails. (they are not 'chem' trails, they are atmospheric disturbances caused by planes)

    couldn't drones do this?

  • First U.S. nuclear reactor built from scratch in decades enters commercial operation in Georgia
  • I understand the need for nuclear. We HAVE to stop using carbon emitting forms of energy.

But I have never supported nuclear in the United States. Time and time and time again, history shows that corporations will water down the regulations around an industry. To the point of collapse. The problem is, when nuclear goes bad, its REALLY bad.

We can't even get our fucking TRAINS to their destination without greed derailing them.

how many fucking oil spills have we had because of lax safety? remember the Deepwater Horizon oil spill? that was due to lax safety regulations, all in the name of profit.

    Please, tell me:

Why in the flying fuck should I trust the regulations around nuclear energy to hold?

Whatever you say, I'm not going to believe you. Not until the fucking lawyers of the corporations stop writing the laws for the congressmen to sign without reading or understanding.

What the FUCK is going to stop 'big nuclear' from re-writing regulations?

I want the regulations around nuclear to be so tight, no capitalist will want to operate under it. I want several rubber bands and a vice around the balls of whoever is running it.

I even think maybe corporations can't be trusted with it, and all nuclear energy should fall exclusively under the management of the DoD.

  • What its like starting my career as a programmer...

i just made this right now, after trembling at my first professional correspondence with an old highschool friend.

TIL Worf is over 110 years old, and started his career as a Colonel!

Did you know that Worf is over 110 years old at the start of TNG? Its true. He started his career as a defense attorney, defending Captain Kirk. He must have been demoted because he was a colonel back then!

When did lemmy.world start requiring an email address?

That to me was an important feature of reddit :(

What I suspect is that they were getting flooded by bots...

    Tucson nights

I swear, the only sane time to be outside this time of year is after 8pm. I turn into a night owl. If I were to run this city, I would actively try to have businesses stay open late/all night. I know Now is when the snow birds leave and sales drop.... but we don't have to live like this! we don't have to keep oven mits in the car for the steering wheel when we first get in and drive away...

In the dead of summer, the best time to cook a steak outside is at 4am. Weather is perfect then. THAT should be the time we all go out and get things done.

I know this will never happen. Thank you for letting me get out my pet peeve.

Whats the structure of the federverse? Who bears the cost and traffic burden of lemmy.world ?

    redditrefugee here

So, Lemmy.world is just one instance of lemmy... it maybe the biggest one, but its just one right? And it agrees to federate with other lemmy instances (like lemmy.ml)... got it. But at the end of the day, each instance is running on someones computer right? Whats the traffic like between these two? If I ran an instance, and federated with this site, what would that cost me? How much traffic does this instance produce?

Are we suppose to divide into our own instances to reduce costs, and then link them together through lemmy.world? wouldn't that make it centralized? And then who is paying for THIS? How much is being a central hub between instances going to cost?

Sooner or later, we have to realize that these wonderful free things are usually a bubble that eventually pops when they have to start running ads.

    Who is paying for this?
