  • This is why people should stop recommending Arch. Fedora or Opensuse TW should be recommended instead for new people.
  • I strongly disagree, they should go in with an absolute baby beginner distro first, learn all about how it works from a user's level, and then they can go back and start building up from scratch with arch.

  • Could Microsoft destroy Linux gaming by using the windows store
  • I just posted a few links to the other person who responded to me and you can follow those and there is more detail there.

But basically if Microsoft were to try, which they did, try and move to their own app store, which removes win32, then all of Valve's games ( in the store) will no longer become relevant over time, on the Windows platform.

You don't just spend millions and millions and millions of dollars on Linux for no reason at all. It's not like he's a fanboy, he's a businessman, and he's protecting his business.

  • Could Microsoft destroy Linux gaming by using the windows store
  • Some people are making fun about this, but if you look at the history of the steam store and how Gabe is focusing so heavily on Linux, it is because he is concerned that Microsoft is going to shut down Win32 and he will be absolutely screwed.

Due to this, he is creating a safety net for himself and is pushing Linux hard as an alternative to Microsoft Windows so that he can not be so reliant on Microsoft and what they choose to do and not do. Specifically when it comes to win 32.

  • What is something people you encounter at your job say that makes you want to scream? (Job, person & quote)
  • Correct. However, Woolworths, Coles, Aldi, and some IGA stores are signatories to the voluntary code of practice for computerised checkout systems in supermarkets.

Generally, this means that if an item is scanned at the checkout at a higher price than it says on the shelf or as advertised, a customer is entitled to receive the first item free and all multiples of the same item at the lower price.

So not all stores, but generally speaking it's a thing. I've seen it in action with a cocky teenager demand his coke free, and got it.

  • In Australia, if it scans higher than the price on the shelf, it is free.

  • This was definitely in a time when things were heaps cheaper. It was the 1990s and the cost of living was nothing like it is now so it was definitely easier for me.

But I do remember working from some time in the afternoon until about three in the morning on a project for free to demonstrate that I can do what I needed to do.

That project got me a foot in the door and it got me my first job that I would consider my real road to success.

It wasn't fun, it wasn't easy, and i remember being so tired that my eyes were shuttering/shaking, but I knew that if I could get that out the door and show them what it was I could do, that it gave me a good chance.

It did more than that, it put me straight into salary in their company within a week.

Absolutely fantastic, and I might have been lucky, that I didn't get screwed, but that it is what happened.

  • Gen Z job seekers should be willing to work for free, long hours, ‘willing to do anything,’ says Squarespace CMO
  • Many people had that same attitude then as well. It's always been like this. It's not like anything is different.

The only thing different now is the huge costs of living which would make it a lot more difficult to do versus when I did it back in the day. It definitely was financially easier for me because the economy was not so screwed as it is now.

  • Gen Z job seekers should be willing to work for free, long hours, ‘willing to do anything,’ says Squarespace CMO
  • I'm gen X. I worked for free in my chosen field to get experience. I worked shitty jobs at the same time for rent.

It sucked, but it landed me a super sweet job compared to my young peers, as I had experience on the ground, and they did not. That was the only difference.

It's a shitty thing starting at the bottom. That's how I stepped up, and got out of my young man poverty.

Now I know I'll get down voted, so you do that. But, that was my reality. That's what happened. That's what gave me my start. Such is life.

Why do butchers have yellow breadcrumbs on their meat?

I've noticed and I've never really understood why that when you buy any meat that is crumbed from a butcher in Australia, it is always or nearly always yellow in colour.

Why do they do this and where does the yellow colour come from?

How are you all doing so well?

I've been playing this game for years. I've gotten past the blobs. Made it to the shop. But I can't get much past there.

Is there some pattern, or technique, or something that you're all doing?

I search rooms. I watch my food. I use my items. Upgrade them. Am patient in battle, and avoid battle if required.

    What am I missing?

    Thank you

Will microplastics in our testicles be an issue?

There was a finding that all males have microplastic particles in our testes.

    It became a meme.

    Everybody laughed.

    New meme overtakes old meme.

We forget about our plastic testes and move on.

But, is there any issues going forward, that anyone is aware of?

    Game design. The Horizontal Slice

I saw this posted by Grumpy Gamer, who highly recommended it. So I took a look.

Amazing video. Totally worthwhile. The rest of his videos are great also.

I'm making a P&C Adventure, and this really helped me focus on "the horizontal slice" in my early stage of development.

Using Google whilst Duck Duck Go is down. How long has Google been this bad?

So ddg is down, so I visit Google. It's been some years.

I just can't believe how poor it's results are, and how it's trying to suggest things it think I might also want (and failing miserably).

I just assumed ddg would be the lesser, but I use it for privacy. Turns out I'm wrong.

Open source Android diagram, tree or mind mapping software.

Hi all, I really like the open source Linux application called DIA it's a diagram tool that handles flowcharts beautifully.

I'm trying to find an offline Android application that is similar to that, that I can use locally on my Android tablet.

Other software categories that might work include mind mapping, but anything like that really is what I'm after.

There seems to be a severe lack of this, I can't really find anything. I used to use freemind on Linux also, again a great application, but nothing seems to be available for Android.

If anyone has any suggestions, I would love to hear them. Thank you.
