Federation question - can I post threads to remote magazines?

So today I subscribed to the VideoGameMusic magazine over at kbin.social. I made a post here on Fedia, expect it to show up on kbin.social - and so far it hasn't.

I wasn't sure if this is a bug, or if I'm just mis-understanding how Kbin-\>Kbin communications work. Thank you in advance!

Pretty cool! Tried searching for one of my favorite channels (coffeezilla). Videos popped up in the search, but when drilling down into the actual channel, no results, so I guess there's still some kinks. But actually watching a video was smooth as silk.
Question: can I follow microblog-y accounts via my Kbin account? And if so, how?
I see when I click the "People" tab there's a list of local users. When I'm under certain magazines, the People tab will show remote users.
I've tried searching for remote users via username on the search page (ie, my own calckey account is @johnny) and don't get any results.
Is this a supported use-case and if so, how do you do it? Thank you!
