Instance shutdown per 31 Oct 2023 - what's next for /c/fountainpens?
I’ve been having trouble keeping this instance up - right now, it’s a problem with proxy errors between the docker containers as well as with the Ansible scripts. It’s taking too much time to maintain. I'll be shutting down wayfarershaven.eu per 31 October 2023.
That means that the fountainpens community here will also disappear. Anyone who would like to restart this on another instance is more than welcome to do so.
Instance will shut down by 31 Oct 2023

I'll do my best to keep the server up until 31 Oct 2023. After that, it will likely be shut down.
Please see the sidebar, third link in the section about communities. Removing per rule #3.
Server was down - update
Hey all! My apologies for the fact that the instance has been down. For those who are curious, it turns out that the Lemmy volumes had ballooned and taken up all the space on the server. I've reclaimed the space and set a recurring task to make sure that it automatically gets cleaned up going forward.
This shows the vulnerability of small instances run by a single admin - I wasn't able to sit down and troubleshoot the issue. I don't have a good solution for you beyond recognizing that sometimes things willl take time when there isn't a team or paid business with SLAs. If you have things you'd like to see change, I'm happy to discuss.
Instance back up per 30 Sept
Hey all! You may have noticed that Wayfarers' Haven has been down. I noticed, too, but didn't have time to get to it until the weekend.
It turns out that the docker images had become so bloated that there was no longer enough disk space to do anything at all. A simple docker system prune -a --volumes
sorted that right out and I'll set a cron job to handle that going forward.
With that said, this simple issue showed the vulnerabilities of an instances with a single admin. I'm sorry for the downtime and confusion. Personally, I'll be creating a backup user on other instances using this tool: https://github.com/CMahaff/lasim
Eating M&Ms by color - it has absolutely no purpose and they're bad for me, but oh so satisfying.
@[email protected], I'm responding to your DM here.
We don't move posts to the correct community because Lemmy doesn't have that option - and I'd rather you got to choose where your content lands.
As for why we don't reach out and tell people - this is a volunteer job on a big community. We rely on the mod log and allow this kind of meta post to stay up for transparency and discussion. Otherwise, we focus on following the rules laid out so that this community can stay within its intended scope. This is a community for open questions and discussion - not support.
I'm sorry you don't feel welcomed - that's tough. However, communities come with their own rules and mods will make sure they're enforced. I'd recommend checking those rules carefully before posting in the future as that will help the reception of your post.
This is more of a support question, related to using Lemmy. Please see the sidebar for a list of communities that offer support. Removing under rule #3.

I access Lemmy through the browser all the time. The experience is solid and consistent across devices and I need access to both mod and (occasionally) admin tools.
We could - but we're still getting comments here. Why not continue to use this thread and sort by new?
Also - this topic doesn't even really belong in Asklemmy per the rules. If anything, I'm more inclined to unpin it and return to dealing with posts as needed.
It's not just the mods but the admins going to lengths to keep their instances clean. The awfulness outlined in that post means I'm not sure I should keep hosting my own instance.
Please check the sidebar for tips. Closing per rule #3.
Removing per rule 4 - we've have a few similar questions and this doesn't cover any new ground.
Locking this thread per rule #2; we don't have the bandwidth to moderate political discussions.

I liked it, as long as I looked it at as an interpretation rather than an exact translation.

That may actually be the Dutch or maybe Swedish spelling. They're all so close but slightly different that I hope auto-correct deals with it.
Maybe they have a rubix cube in one of the shops? Hours of entertainment.
Building on this, you can probably find space in the lounge to do some stretching or basic yoga. Short sessions are good if you have a short attention span. If you'd like a place to start, try Yoga by Adrienne.

This looks like it was great fun. Would you take part and if so, which house would you represent?

It's interesting to see the breakdown of what she carries - especially the decision to treat her toiletry kit as her junk drawer. I didn't expect to see a clothesline in there!

Do you still write notes with pen and paper?
Sharing because I can see this community having thoughts to share. :)

> With so much note taking apps nowadays, I can't understand why does anyone still write notes with pen and paper. You need to bring the notepad, book or that paper to retrieve that information, and most of the time you don't have it in hand. While my phone almost always reachable and you carry when you go out. For those still like to do handwriting, there's many app does that and they can even convert it to text notes. > > So, if you still write notes with pen and paper, why?
