Not what my claim was for but it definitely impacted it
  • when this happened to me, I filled it around 2am the day before my follow up appointment but had no time to print it so I went there hoping I would be able to email it to them.

narrator: they didn't want to accept it by email

  • Anon thinks about titanic
  • yeah because being in the open ocean in subzero temperatures is the moment that one will think "sure, better take my life vest off and strap it on this fucking door. I bet it will hold the door afloat and I will always be attached to this door. What can go wrong?"

  • Languages are weird
  • I've said exactly the same thing. My mind just went automatically and said "foot-fingers" and it was the friend I was talking with that interrupts me saying "you mean toes!?" and couldn't stop laughing

  • Lemmy.world Should Defederate with Threads
  • You’re complaining about ads that are being pushed on you by an algorithm from ad companies. I’m telling you there are no ad companies. Seems relevant.

I never typed the word "ad". I specifically said post of top brands. How can this be achieved in ActivityPub? Easy. When you are using lets say Threads, their proprietary system treats differently ads and normal posts. However, anything their system is pushing on the federated network (ActivityPub) is disguised as a normal post. A post that is having millions of engagement will be visible in "All".

Nothing prevents them from doing that right now.

You act like you're new to internet. What prevents them is that their audience is not here and companies are not paying them for that. However companies will pay them to promote their products in Threads. With the current numbers, Threads has the potential to dominate the "All" page.

  • Lemmy.world Should Defederate with Threads
  • that's irrelevant. Nothing prevents the influencers to promote their products as they do in all the popular platforms. You're thinking only in terms of ads as coming from an ad server but this is not necessarily the case.

  • Linus does not fuck around
  • I agree on the first part. However this is from 2012 and in the meantime Linus himself realized and admitted that he was not proud of behaving like that and took real measures and seeked help in order to improve himself.

  • Not mocking cobol devs but yall are severely underpaid for keeping fintech alive
  • Didn’t say python because oh sweet Jesus the slowdown alone would grind the global economy to a halt if we were running all our banking software on Python XD

ah so we just need to persuade banks to switch to python. Noted

  • Teen girls are being victimized by deepfake nudes. One family is pushing for more protections
  • this doesn't work. AI still needs to know what is CP in order to create CP for negative use. So you need to first feed it with CP. Recent example of how OpenAI was labelling "bad text"

The premise was simple: feed an AI with labeled examples of violence, hate speech, and sexual abuse, and that tool could learn to detect those forms of toxicity in the wild. That detector would be built into ChatGPT to check whether it was echoing the toxicity of its training data, and filter it out before it ever reached the user. It could also help scrub toxic text from the training datasets of future AI models.

To get those labels, OpenAI sent tens of thousands of snippets of text to an outsourcing firm in Kenya, beginning in November 2021. Much of that text appeared to have been pulled from the darkest recesses of the internet. Some of it described situations in graphic detail like child sexual abuse, bestiality, murder, suicide, torture, self harm, and incest.

  • Looking for a cheat sheet for Tumbleweed with basic commands and ideally their *deb/*buntu equivalent

I'm coming for a *deb/*buntu world and I would find useful if I have a cheat sheet for Tumbleweed with the most basic commands and especially if there is something that correlates them with commands I'm already familiar.

For example that # zypper up replaces # apt upgrade

I have already found a cheat sheet for zypper here https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Zypper_usage#Cheat_sheet so I'm looking for something that includes more stuff than just zypper. Or is zypper the main difference? I mean (I'm completely new on opensuse) other stuff, like restarting services, or default location of config files, or how to do other basic low level actions, I'm not sure if they are different, but if yes, looking for such relation-map.

Hope it makes sense what I'm asking, thanks in advance

This is literally the internet nowadays without an adblock

I cannot understand how some people are living with this. It is unbearable

How can I find the reason my PC crashes?

Lately my PC has started crashing while it plays videos. It freezes completely, screen frozen and not responding to any input (keyboard, mouse), I mean I cannot change TTY (alt + ctrl + F(1-2-...)), and it cannot even respond to alt + PrntScr + REISUB. I have to force power off by holding down the power button.

After I reboot I have tried checking all logs available and I cannot find anything logged right before the incident. Last entries are always different and not indicating anything.

I suspect it has to do with the graphics card but I'm looking for ways that I can dig deeper on that and confirm it or not.

What else should I check? How can I find more info?

OS: Lubuntu 22.04.3 LTS (latest updates) I'm using the nvidia proprietary drivers (nvidia-driver-390)

    UPDATE:

First of all thank you all for your input and fresh ideas. Now I've already tried some of them and I will continue with the other ones until I get some results.

    till now I have tried

    • memtest and it didn't show any errors.
    • boot from a live distro and see if problem also occurs. Well it didn't occur but on the live distro you cannot change the graphics driver. So it was using the open source nouveau driver, also it didn't happen during the 1 hour I let it play. The thing is that it never was punctual even before. It could happen during the first hour or the third or sometime later.

    Next steps are to

    • open the case and clean it up to remove the possibility of high temp because of that,
    • change my drivers to be the nouveau and try again,
    • try with only the onboard GPU on,
    • remove extra disks to reduce the load of the PSU

    thank you all again.
