More House Democrats Say 'No' to Netanyahu Speech to Congress
  • So you think "free speech" means a foreign leader who is actively committing a genocide must be allowed to speak directly to Congress?

Do you think Putin should be able to? What about NK or China's leaders?

How pissed are you when peaceful protesters are attacked by cops?

Because that actually is a free speech issue. But no one is entitled to give a speech to Congress.

  • Why are only SOME communities inaccessible on lemmy.world?
  • Yeah, I mean a solution would be a bot that just crawled World and subscribed to anything with more than X users/posts/whatever.

Then it would pull all those communities into your instances feed.

At least I think? I'm like 90% sure that's how it works.

  • Beyond the established symmetries of physics - Charge, Spin, Color, Time, etc. - is there any such thing as symmetry of Information?
  • If your lifespan was an hour, every generation that witnessed a sunrise or sunset would freak the fuck out and think the world was ending.

I've always thought of entropy like that, it seems one direction, but only because we're on a comparativly tiny timescale.

Used to subscribe to the "big crunch" theory that it'll just all start over. But the more Penrose and Hawking I read, the more I think the Big Bang just isn't that unique.

There's a lot of signs that the vast majority of existence is dark matter, and with how it interacts with regular matter, I don't think we have sequential big bangs like a single light slowly flashing. I think it's more like fireworks in the sky.

There's probably not anyway to travel through the dark matter to get to another "bubble", and even if we did, that bubbles laws of physics could be drastically incompatible with us.

Like, if you remember the Narnia books it's like that "main world" where it was just an infinite number of ponds and jumping into one shoots you out to some world world everything works better. I think The Magicians kind of ripped off the idea, and by now more people may be familiar with that then one of the least popular (but underrated) books in a children's series from ww2.

Entropy is functionally persistent, but only because everything we can see and interact isnt all there is. There could be multiple other bubbles of matter happening right now, it's just about what frame of reference we have.

  • Why are only SOME communities inaccessible on lemmy.world?
  • Sometimes it has to do with if a user from your instance subscribes to the community

You're on a small instance where most of the users I see are brand new troll accounts, I don't think there's very many active users who maintain accounts and subscribe to communities.

So there's probably lots your not seeing.

You may want to think of migrating to another instnace. Doesn't have to be world, but it sounds like your problems is due to a low user base on your instance.

  • South Park Vows to Never Make Fun of People For Their Weight 'Ever Again'. “Rich people get Ozempic, poor people get body positivity,” Cartman says in Paramount+’s latest special.
  • I missed the warning when I first watched it, and was thinking this one was 100% because Matt or Trey went on it.

Re watched it later and saw the warning that they used the actual sound of Trey injecting Ozempic lol.

What's crazy is it really doesnt have to be like this and "big sugar" really is to blame. I started paying attention to how much sugar is in everything a few months ago, and that shit is just crammed in everything. There's hardly any options anymore for normal food that isn't filled with it.

A "meat and potatoes" diet was never healthy, but throw a bunch of sugar in with it and it's no surprise obesity is such an issue.

But all you need to do is eat more nonsoluable fiber. Stuff like kidney beans, oatmeal, sauerkraut, leafy greens, you can even get the fat free refried beans.

Eat some of that and it'll stay in your stomach a long time and make you feel full all day, and it slowly releases sugar instead of short bursts. It stops being a struggle to eat less, because most modern food is very easy to digest and we burn thru that sugar quick and want more immediately.

Once you start dealing with poverty and calorie/price becomes the most important part of your decision making process, you're going to go for that high sugar low fiber diet.

Like, it's not just food either. When we don't have enough resources, we stop thinking long term because we prioritize the present over the future. That changes in thinking makes a 2k calorie fast food meal seem like a good idea.

But it's crazy after all this time South Park is one of the few big shows that talks about this shit.

  • Biden Vs. Trump 2024 Election Polls: Trump Leads By 2 Points, Latest Survey Shows
  • In practice, but that's because the party has always defaulted to supporting the incumbent.

The sitting president can't just declare they're the only option.

However what decides the candidate isn't a primary election, those are completely nonbinding and more like a survey than anything.

So even if Biden lost the primary, the DNC could say he's the candidate anyways.

So in practice you're right. But saying it the way you did makes it sound like it wouldn't be affront against democracy if it came down to the president losing the primary and the party running them anyways

  • I mean, obviously if Biden losses it's because some people said it would happen.

Like, if your doctor tells you smoking 10 cartons of cigarettes a day will give you cancer, then tells you that you have cancer?

Obviously that means your doctor is a witch and gave you cancer. Couldn't possibly be that she was trying to warn you about the logical results of your actions, that would mean it's your fault.

  • Biden Vs. Trump 2024 Election Polls: Trump Leads By 2 Points, Latest Survey Shows
  • The way people act Biden pulled a FDR landslide type victory, and not by an incredibly slim margin in a handful of states.

Just completely detached from the reality of what happened 4 years ago, and in such an obvious way that the more they scream about it, the less people believe anything coming from Biden, his campaign, or his supporters.

They just want to keep repeating "Biden is popular" and hope people start believing.

  • Biden Vs. Trump 2024 Election Polls: Trump Leads By 2 Points, Latest Survey Shows
  • It's a bad sign when people keep seeing this and their response is to downvote and defend Biden even more aggressively.

Like, I can't imagine anyone who pays attention to politics thinking that browbeating people into voting for candidates they don't like would be successful.

Like, it only worked in 2020 because trump was in office, but so many think it somehow means Biden is a great candidate and it's a weird coincidence it took him 32 years to win his first presidential primary

The easiest way to beat Trump, is to run a popular candidate. And if Biden can't accomplish anything more than the little he managed the first time, why wouldn't we just run the Dem with the best shot at winning?

Biden literally barely managed it last time, and his numbers are worse across the board pretty much everywhere.

Polls consistently show Trump leads Biden in most of the seven crucial swing states that will likely decide the election—Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin, Nevada, Georgia, North Carolina and Pennsylvania—all of which Biden won narrowly in 2020 with the exception of North Carolina.

Burying your head in the sand only helps trump.

There's time to at least get Biden to stop pissing off the people he needs to win, and since the convention hasn't happened yet, there's even still time to just run someone people like and want to vote for.

You're having a different conversation than everyone else, I think that's what's frustrating you.

We are talking about the last four years, two of which Biden had majorities, u til the inaction during those two years led to republicans taking the House.

I have zero idea why you're insisting we talk about the last 24 years.

I'm also not sure why you keep talking about the Jetsons.

Like, I'd try to explain this better, but it's impossible when you refuse to talk about anything rather than what you want.

It's like if two people were talking at a party and you walked up and screamed:

Blake Bortles is the best professional foosball player in Australia!

Sure, those people could try and explain all the ways your wrong and why it has nothing to do with what they were talking about.

Or they could just smile and nod politely and walk away.

The problem is you seem to think that is "winning" some "argument"...

  • UCLA police make first arrest in mob attack on pro-Palestinian encampment
  • UCLA Chancellor Gene Block, testifying Thursday before a U.S. congressional hearing into the protests, said his school should have been prepared to immediately remove the protest encampment "if and when the safety of our community was put at risk."

The violence took place two days after a pro-Israel group, the Israeli American Council, held a rally next to the UCLA encampment, with the council's leader, Elan Carr, urging his supporters to “take back our campuses" from pro-Palestinian protesters. Scuffles broke out between the two sides.

So zionists showed up, said people should attack peaceful protesters, then attacked the peaceful protestors, and days later came back with weapons for a coordinated early morning attack...

So the cops then raid the peaceful protesters?

And the schools take away was "we should have had the cops attack earlier"

    Fucking insane.

This is what happens when foreign countries buy both parties and take over our education system. It's no coincidence all these schools are siding with the genociders.

  • Do You Want a ‘Unified Reich’ Mind-Set in the White House?
  • Dude, 4 fucking years in the last 24

    Why go back so far?

We're talking about Biden's first term, and he had it for two years, during which nothing was actually done because he didn't "look into" anything until taking office apparently.

He just won the election and took a vacation.

In case you couldn't tell from midterms, voters didn't appreciate that...

And two years later, you're surprised turnout is going to be low?

But the people donating money to both parties don't want what's best for voters, they want what's best for profits. And that's desperate workers.

So as long as the only two options arenran by people who's top priority is donations, this is what we'll always get.

They could pay them more today, but that doesn't solve what I was talking about about:

    Nurses

Like I said, were half a decade into a nursing shortage, hospitals are paying out the ass, nursing homes already can't compete, and people are still leaving the field.

Stop being mad, and read the headline of the article you're reading. We can't even staff the non nurses. To pay them, these wages will likely be cut more.

If they have to pay a competitive rate to get the nurses from hospitals, that cost gets passed on to clients or taken out of the pay of people like this article is about.

And people will be priced out of this because this is America

The bond Trump is posting with the court now is essentially a placeholder, meant to guarantee payment if the judgment is upheld. If that happens, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee will have to pay the state the whole sum, which grows with daily interest.

If Trump wins, he won’t have to pay the state anything and will get back the money he has put up now.

President can murder rivals without prosecution unless convicted by Senate first: Trump lawyer

The stark question was posed to Trump’s attorney John Sauer by Judge Florence Pan: Was a president immune from prosecution for any unlawful act, at all? Could a president order his political rivals to be assassinated by Seal Team 6 as an official act? Could he sell pardons at his pleasure if he saw fit and then face no consequences for his actions?

“He would have to be impeached and convicted first,” Sauer replied,
