When was the last time you bought a paper map and why ?
  • Hiking.

I use digital when my life doesn't depend on it.

    Edit: bought it last month.

  • Study finds 268% higher failure rates for Agile software projects
  • Do you think the problem is that the person driving the requirements doesn't know what they actually want?

I think a good BA is critical to the process because lots of end users have no idea how to put their ideas onto paper.

I also think an MVP helps a lot because people can see and touch it which helps focus their needs.

  • Which is which?
  • I'm going in and committing to whatever I find inside.

  • TFS Has Leaked. No Spoilers here please.
  • I would agree and prefer I get a good surprise on Tuesday.

  • Tractor-trailers with no one aboard? The future is near for self-driving trucks on US roads
  • Work in transport. We have a severe lack of truck drivers in the US and a severe need. A few years ago the Prez of Texas Trucking Association stated he's encouraging his son not to go into the biz because of the tough work requirements. He is very clear that trying to hire new drivers is hard. The industry acknowledges connected vehicles with semi autonomous trailers and trucks can support the dire need to move product. In certain circumstances autonomous driving can be useful and reasonably safe. Highways are usually well lit, well marked and well signed. This all helps improve autonomous vehicle safety.

  • Google sucks.
  • Did I break a rule by adding a word in the title that is not in the story? I don't have any of these cameras.

  • Google sucks.
  • Oh no... no need. Just frustrating how Google buys up good companies to expand their footprint and then shutters them when they've used them up for their temporary worth. It's like Smartthings. Amazing Kickstarter. Amazing community. Amazing API. Samsung slowly ruined it all to connect their devices.

  • But he's a good Christian!
  • Pics or it didn't happen... shit... AI...

  • Google sucks.

Corporations now buy the carpet bomb factory to expand their bomb product line and then carpet bomb their own factory after the war is over.

Yeah we are not like that
  • Ha...My hard left friends (and wife) are not fans of me not always agreeing with their perspectives.

  • Homemade Monkey Bread :)
  • God bless monkey bread.

  • Baltimore bridge collapses into river after being hit by cargo ship
  • Just anecdotal. I think it was enough to not fear it so much. The recollection is that the bad part is you are fighting to stay alive but when you give in and swallow all of the you get a state of euphoria... so I figure if you've got no choice just suck the water in and die happy.

  • Baltimore bridge collapses into river after being hit by cargo ship
  • That's a crime scene and a death scene. It's not going to go quickly. The good news is that it's a critical roadway and waterway intersection so the feds and state government have motivation to make haste.

  • Baltimore bridge collapses into river after being hit by cargo ship
  • I used to think drowning was the worst until I heard two accounts of people who drowned and were resuscitated. They said it was terribly peaceful. I'm good with it now.

  • Detective wore wig and posed as victim to catch US scammer who stole gold bars
  • They had her take her retirement money, pull it out and convert it to gold because they told her it was safest that way. They said by being physical the thieves couldn't take it. The irony.

Come to think of it another old lady friend got taken for 20K but it wasn't the gold thing. I think it was just good ole graft. Sad story. Her kids took over her estate after consulting with her and are now forcing her to move into an old folks home. They are selling her home she's had for 50 years. A friend offered to buy it direct and they said nope... talk to the real estate agent. A holes.

  • AI voice over in early trailers
  • Thanks for your insight. That is interesting.

  • Detective wore wig and posed as victim to catch US scammer who stole gold bars
  • A lady down the street had her mom get taken for $500K of gold bars. She loaded it into their car. Thought she was part of a scheme that the FBI was investigating and she was to not tell her family else it would rope her family into the group of suspects. None of it makes sense but to her it was completely believable.

  • AI voice over in early trailers

This may be out there already, but it seems like I have seen multiple teaser trailers (including Trailer 1 for Gladiator 2) that seem to have terrible writing and terrible voice overs that sound like AI.

    I did it!

I picked my first lock today. It was a cylinder from a Yale deadbolt that I lost the keys to. I'm so pumped. I sat there for over an hour and finally watched a video to learn the pins are little pistons in Yales. I modified the pressure and approach and bam. It just clicked. Cylinder is now repinned to match my current Yale key. Wish I could cut my own keys. Then I'd be a full turkey service (ha... get it). I told my 12 year old who was making fun of me while I was doing it and she actually looked happy for me when I ran in and told her. She even let me show her how a cylinder and key are pinned.

    NPR stream

Anyone have a reliable URL for KERA? Something changed a few months ago and I can't find a link that'll work in my XIIA internet streaming app.

Bummer that this place went up in flames. Hoping it didn't significantly damage surrounding buildings and offices.

Anyone looking to start a /c/Dallas community?

Someone on /c/requests asked for a Dallas community so I figured I'd ask here. I'm a suburbanite so I don't feel comfortable trying to mod for a place I don't live in.

Big props for the mod team

Here is a huge thank you to the /c/dfw mod team. You are doing a great job creating content for our viewing pleasure.

    A page for Ticket listeners

I am selfishly promoting the Lemmy.world page for KTCK Ticket listeners. Not sure how many have come over recently but feel free to check it out. It's pretty threadbare since I am trying to do too many things at once, but you have to start somewhere.

Glad to see TX on the Lemmy map

Just posting here to say Hello! Come join us over on /c/dfw if you are in that region or want to keep an eye on things.

Looking for a new place to grab a nice dinner?

Not that this place needs a nudge, but a little gem in Addison is Lefty's. My go-to family owned restaurant that's been a staple for me for almost two decades. It's tiny and it doesn't hurt to get a rez, but pound for pound it's a great, reasonably priced ($$-$$$) night out. They are not going to wow with a huge bar or huge menu, but everything is done well. It's well loved by the locals and rotates through some famous people in the reg. Check it out.

    I'm a lurker...

But here's to hoping this /c/ will gain critical mass!

    2

    It's worth mentioning...

I was going to create a Dallas community, however I don't live there. I am in a burb and needed a larger sphere of influence when it comes to getting hot takes on food or activity in the region. If someone gets the Dallas community rolling drop a note here and I'll subscribe to it as well.

If anyone wants to moderate this community let me know.

Happy to share the wealth. Trying to bring in the other fellow and former DFW Redditors.
