Rites of Spring- For want of
  • I ended up getting promoted from rhythm guitarist to frontman of my high school band when they realized I was good at screaming because a dude and I were messing around on a cover of For Want Of towards the end of practice.

  • Kyle Busch has sold KBM to Spire Motorsports
  • I'm not surprised by this. It was immediately obvious that KBM wasn't gonna be the same without the massive amount of support and sponsorship partners Toyota poured into that team. I just knew that Kyle Busch couldn't have been happy going from battling for championships to employing mid-level pay drivers like Chase Purdy or not even mid-level in Jack Wood, the economics of running that team just totally changed overnight even though they were still building quality equipment.

I'll be excited to see what Spire is looking like next year with a 3 car team with serious sponsorship backing, all the tools to be the top performing Chevy team in the Truck series, maybe continuing to dabble at the Xfinity level now that they own a chassis manufacturing company. After years coasting in the back, they are really shooting their shot at multiseries relevancy

  • CGR signs Kyffin Simpson as fifth entry for 2024
  • Wish I had the kind of money that can buy an Indycar seat with the best team after only managing to finish 10th in Indy NXT points and 6th of HMD.

  • The Mountain Goats, 'This Year'.
  • Whenever I'm feeling particularly anxious or depressed, this is one of the first songs I go to.

  • Andretti Autosport could downsize to 3 cars in 2024; Romain Grosjean says he won't return
  • Tbh, it makes the announcement a while back that they would no longer be employing pay drivers a lot less impressive if they just eliminate a car rather than take one on. If those were the two choices, I would have just hired David Malukas, he's a much better driver than Devlin or the other young drivers with budget.

  • Silver Jews - Random Rules (1998)
  • One of my favorite opening lines in any song I've ever listened to, hooks you immediately.

  • Buffalo Tom - Taillights Fade [1992]
  • The other day while talking to a friend I compared somebody else's music to Buffalo Tom, and then said "I fully recognize I'm probably the only person who cares about Buffalo Tom", so thank you for proving me wrong.

  • The Cramps - Goo Goo Muck (Official Audio)
  • The first Cramps song I ever heard early in my teens, I was instantly hooked.

  • Anybody Else Heard of Death to Smoochy (2002)?
  • My stepfather, who I adored, was an instant huge fan of Death to Smoochy after it came out on home video and would often sing the line "Stepdad's Not Mean He's Just Adjusting"

  • David Rawlings and Gillian Welch - Method Acting / Cortez the Killer
  • Omg, how did I not know as the hardest of hardcore Bright Eyes fans that this exists? Great cover(s).

  • Cushing Curiosities Blu-ray boxset from Severin
  • I don't think the selection of films really justifies the price, but the book and teleplays and bonus features are very cool if you love Cushing (which I do).

  • Bruce Springsteen - The Ghost of Tom Joad
  • This song is great and this album is one I feel like far too many people overlook. As a huge Nebraska fan, I'm down for any time The Boss wants to strip down and get all acoustic on our asses, and while it isn't as great as Nebraska it is still easily my favorite 90s Springsteen album and high on my list of favorite E Street Band-less albums.

  • ‘Blue Beetle’: How Grassroots Backers Are Trying to Boost the Latino-Led Superhero Movie
  • I'm of real mixed emotions here. I totally understand why latino/a folks want this film to succeed, there has never really been a film to this scale to feature as predominantly a latin-american cast as this one, and that's certainly a big moment. I have a latino friend who is going purely for how big a moment it is for representation of his culture and I get it.

However, so much of the complaints about how iffy the film's likely performance I've seen really border damn close to just complaining about the strike "ruining" things for people (like we didn't all know this film had 'potential bust' written all over it for a long time now) and studios' plans. And frankly, while I certainly hope for more latin-american representation all across film, I also think that trying to save Warner Bros Discovery from their own disasterous decision is counterproductive to wishes of future good quality and original programming

  • Have a Nice Life - Bloodhail (2008)
  • Not a month goes by that I don't get the sudden urge to revisit this song, it is really an all time favorite.

  • Wire - Ex Lion Tamer (1977)
  • Straight up one of my favorite songs of all time.

  • Blood Simple (1984) Director: Joel and Ethan Coen
  • Amazing how fully formed as filmmakers Joel and Ethan were from day one.

  • Minutemen - "History Lesson Part 2" (1984)
  • It is such a wonderful moment in a frantic album, just take a step back, chill out, and inspire people with a tribute to the power of music. Love it.

  • Jane's Addiction - Stop (1990)
  • It might be just because the most famous members of Jane's Addiction are famously super hateable dudes. They generally aren't a cool band to like because of both that and the close association with RHCP (whom I personally also do not like), but it is unfair because at their peak JA were a really solid alt rock band that didn't really sound like anybody else out there.

  • Hüsker Dü - "Don't Want to Know If You Are Lonely" (1986)
  • Most bands are lucky to have one great songwriter, Husker Du had two who ensured there was never a dull moment on any of their albums. It says a lot that of the "noise pop/melodic hardcore" era, Candy Apple Grey is probably their weakest album and it still produced all-time great songs like this.

  • The Replacements - I Will Dare
  • I'm 32, and Let it Be has been a top 3 album for me since I was like 15 years old. You don't have to be older to know that The 'Mats were amazing.

  • No Christmas While I'm Talking - The Walkmen (2004)

    Hypnotic and soulful.

    AJ Foyt Racing This Season

I know Benjamin Pedersen is second-to-last in points of the full-time drivers as a rookie, but it seems that when the team itself has put together a good package he doesn't drastically underperform the pace in at least qualifying and doesn't seem to be as badly off the pace as Dalton Kellett was (goodbye my leftist king).

However, Santino Ferrucci has been a clear step up in consistent pace over the lead Foyt car for the last couple of seasons and is even knocking on the door to a top 15 spot.

I really doubted Larry Foyt's leadership of the team because for a long time they really got worse each year until reaching their nadir last year, but they really seem to be willing to put in the effort and a bit more money into the program to turn things around, and putting two cars in the top 12 on a road course is a huge step forward I think. What do you think, are they turning the page?

Will Power Has Some Harsh Words for Scott Dixon, Romain Grosjean

racer.com The Bird is the word for Will Power after a bad day at Road America

Will Power already broke out his famous fingers in Saturday practice at Road America. Later on, he climbed from his car after failing to transfer into the Firestone Fast 12 and continued to vent hi…

Will has rarely been known to hold his tongue when he's upset, but rarely has it gotten to saying somebody should be punched in the face, lol.

Semi-OT: Conor Daly Does a One-Off in Trucks at Mid-Ohio

Not the first time even this season Conor Daly has dabbled in stock car racing, but it is the first time since he became a free agent whose chances at getting more than oval rides in the future seem to be dwindling in Indycar.

Niece has long been a place for misfit drivers other teams probably wouldn't take a chance on, I wonder if Conor would consider a more frequent NASCAR gig?

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is a Lying Crank Posing as a Progressive Alternative to Biden

I thought that this article was a very thorough account of how RFK Jr isn't a real left-leaning alternative to Biden even if you can look past the anti-vax stuff which alone should be enough to give pause. Reeks of right-wing plant.
