  • Interesting, I first heard about nixos from the self-hosted podcast. It seems like a neet idea and I do think I'll eventually try it out. It just seems like a lot to learn right now. To be clear, I'd prefer to use it on a server. Though, I may try it on a laptop first. Anyone with experience in desktop or server have any input?

  • someone convince me to switch to Linux from windows
  • I've installed Linux mint on almost everyone's computer that I play IT for. My grandparents never really noticed the difference between it and Windows 7 they had before. My mom pretty much only uses the browser so she doesn't really care. It's funny that I use Windows on my desktop. I'm a gamer and I can't even play most of my games on Linux (competitive first person shooters). But my laptop, steam deck, and servers all run Linux.

  • BattleBit Remastered is dominating Steam because there's no catch: it's just a lot of game for $15
  • They said that cheating is way more important to battle than the 1% of gamers on Linux. I can see the point. Epic doesn't exactly stop it. It's only a matter of time that cheaters get rampant IMO.

I believe that Linux players just can't join official servers and they plan to have community servers eventually.

  • I couldn't have said it better myself. The wasted space because of duplicate dependencies is negligible and worth it.

  • BattleBit Remastered becomes best-selling premium game on Steam, peaking at 61k concurrent players | Game World Observer
  • It can be said straight away that there is no such thing as a Battlebit Original (and at the same time there is). There was no other game before Battlebit that could be called an original. So why does Battlebit have Remaster in its name? It is related to the long production cycle.

The developers explain that the game has been in production since 2016 and a lot has changed. Apparently "the game has been rewritten 3 times, and its core worked 2 times". So it could be said that there has only ever been one Battlebit game, however, it has undergone so many changes since the original version that the developers felt the word Remaster was more fitting for the current state of the game compared to its origins.

  • Which current technology has the most potential?
  • Other people have already addressed the waste portion of your argument. The part that I'd like to address is the "expertise needed". I completely agree with how difficult it can be to learn. I mean, just calibrating your printer can be a whole job. However, I don't think it's necessarily something that everyone would have to have a printer to get the benefits of the tech. I already see many people that sell "3D-Printing services" I have my own 3D-printer, but I have even paid people to print certain things for me. If people can find 3D-printable files (thangs, printables, thingiverse) then they can get someone to pay for much cheaper and faster than ordering a rare part overseas.

  • Which current technology has the most potential?
  • I agree. I love my VR. But, I also see that without more adoption it won't go much further than it already has. Apple stepping in might really help the space. The price is a bit concerning though..

  • Which childhood videogame is your playing tradition?
  • Minecraft. I've been playing since Beta and host Minecraft servers in my homelab for my friends. I don't think I've gone a whole year without playing it in a very long time.

If liking a post encounters an error, it sends you to an error page losing your progress where you had scrolled.

I have encountered this issue a few times already. I have the "Infinite scroll" setting on. If I am scrolling for a while, try to like a post, and an error occurs, it sends me to an error page that tells me something went wrong. When I click the back button it takes me to the bottom of what would have been page one if infinite scroll was off.

The better solution would be to either open the error page in a new tab, have a small popup that says an error occurred, or change the symbol in some way to indicate that an error occurred.
