What’s Your Oldest System?
  • Atari 7800. I bought it from someone on craigslist about 3 years ago. The video was pretty fuzzy and audio wasn't consistent, so I talked them down to a good price. I ended up modding it for composite video and audio, but I rarely play it. I didn't grow up with an Atari, so I don't have the nostalgia for the games, but I still think it's pretty neat.

  • It's called attaining divinity
  • Oh that's interesting. I started poking around with a Gameboy emulator guide implemented in Python that intended to emulate a Z80. Got any good resource recommendation in case I decide to pick this back up and inevitably get stuck?

  • Is Craigslist Dying?
  • Oddly enough I've had the most success selling things on craigslist in the past few years. When I list things on OfferUp I get some messages but everyone is super flaky. People are still flaky on craigslist but I almost always end up closing the sale there instead of OfferUp

  • Is it possible to safely "give away" a Steam account to a stranger?
  • I don't think it's so much a concern about violating the ToS as it is the consequences of violating it. Valve may be able to lock the account or close it if they have good reason to suspect the account has a new owner. An example of solid evidence of this may be changing the payment method for purchases, such that the name on a credit card doesn't match the previous cardholder name on the steam account.

But if the new owner doesn't plan on making new purchases on the account, it would probably be more difficult to confirm the account was transferred.

  • Looks like slightly obscure Xbox 360 titles are on the rise
  • Makes sense. JackDark mentioned a renewed interest in the series due to the TV show as well. I wasn't thinking about that since I don't watch a lot of TV. But there might be growing interest in 7th gen console collecting generally lately.

  • Looks like slightly obscure Xbox 360 titles are on the rise
  • Ah okay, I didn't know Spec Ops was available online at all, but that checks out. Renewed interest in Fallout due to the TV show makes sense too.

Lost Odyssey and Halo 3 limited both have multiple discs, so I suppose it's harder to find copies with all of the discs. Spectral Force 3 had poor reviews, so I suppose it didn't sell well and is harder to find. But these things were true months ago, so something must have sparked interest in them.

Wet on both Xbox 360 and PS3 shot up in price recently too. That makes me suspect people are collecting more for 7th gen now.

Looks like slightly obscure Xbox 360 titles are on the rise

I've noticed some slightly obscure Xbox 360 titles rising in price lately. Anyone know why demand has gone up suddenly? Examples: Spec Ops: The Line ($15 to $35), Spectral Force 3 ($20 to $100), and Lost Odyssey ($20 to $35).

Halo 3 limited edition and Fallout New Vegas on XONE have climbed too, though they aren't as obscure.

Are collectors starting to focus on Xbox 360 titles?

I can't stop drinking and I'm becomimg delusional
  • c/stopdrinking may be a good resource. I used the subreddit when I was quitting drinking and found it to be a good avenue for support. I don't post often now because I don't feel the need to engage with the community after almost 3 years, but I find it comforting to know it's there. Wishing you the best.

  • New Windows AI feature records everything you’ve done on your PC
  • That's a good point. I hadn't factored in the processor architecture at all, whoops. I've already got plenty of Linux experience though, so I just need to find hardware that can support a wide variety of software. Thanks for the recommendations!

  • New Windows AI feature records everything you’ve done on your PC
  • Holy fucking nope. I wasn't planning on getting Windows 11 and this serves as a great reminder to make the transition to Linux. I've been thinking of picking up a raspberry pi 5 as my next desktop. Anyone want to share their experiences doing something similar?

What's your favorite console to collect for?

Hey folks, r/gamecollecting is/was one of my favorite subs, so I would love to see a community for it here! Let's start building this space with an easy question for discussion: what's your favorite console to collect for?

Personally, I really enjoy collecting for Xbox 360. Games are inexpensive and easy to find, there are lots of good exclusives, non-exclusives tend to be similar or better for the 360, and the controller design is simply excellent. My favorite game so far is Enslaved: Odyssey to the West. It has some issues, but it's generally a fun and engaging game.

Which console do you prefer collecting for and why?
