I'm gonna be honest with you chief, I can't take seriously a "protest" that keeps paying the same people it's protesting against
  • You’re saying that with hindsight though. Everyone has their limit. They likely purchased Reddit premium before their personal limit was reached.

Really though, advocating for change doesn’t mean you need to stick your head in the sand and not make the slot of the world as it is today. That’s just a propaganda talking point because it’s lazier to call people hypocrites than it is to actually disprove their points.

  • … you get some amount of awards for free. You’re jumping to conclusions by assuming they paid for them.

Also, it has been less than 30 days since this fiasco began. So some people could still be subscribed from the before times. And a lot of people who did subscribe likely subscribed annually because it was significantly cheaper than month-to-month.

    But leftists. Sure.

  • What inspires you to pick up the guitar every day?
  • I really do just enjoy playing. On the rare days that I don’t want to play, I play anyway because I know that one day soon I’ll like it again and I’ll regret it if I’m at all unpracticed or didn’t make any progress.

  • What undertakings are you currently doing to improve your playing?
  • I’m taking Paul David’s next level guitar online course. It’s like a light theory course and it’s really helpful for me. I focus on actually playing techniques with my IRL teacher.

Also I stopped buying gear and have been surprised at how much more versatile my gear is as I’ve been forced to experiment with what I have and make it work. Some gear that I didn’t like before, I’ve found is really great now that I’ve learned how to use it well.

  • A cheap practice amp, gutted, then plugged into a 12 inch Jensen Speaker sounds excellent. I seriously feel a bit cheated paying $500 for a 'nicer' amp.
  • A lot of practice amps have really nice cleans at bedroom volumes. Like not just acceptable but really really good. My teacher has this cheap $100 Marshall 8 inch practice amp and the cleans blow a way a lot of $1k amps… at bedroom volume.

How does this one sound clean, Doty, quiet and loud?

  • Redditors brigading against Lemmy
  • I’d honestly be happy if the people who are swayed away from Lemmy for that reason stayed away from Lemmy. I don’t at all agree with the developer there and anyone who posts that kind of thing is gross. But anyone sensitive enough to take that as a reason to stay away from Lemmy is super annoying and I’m happy they aren’t here.

  • Reddit: Don't like us anymore? Pay us $50/year!
  • I was actually ok with paying them $50 a year for ad-free before they started de-modding people for protesting. Now they can go fuck themselves. I am sympathetic to their need to be profitable. But effectively taking over subreddits is totally unacceptable and Reddit is no longer Reddit.

  • Lobbyists with links to Big Tobacco fund pro-vaping Facebook campaigns
  • I’m saying that preliminary evidence is positive. The big unknown is the flavoring. And for some reason, vape flavor bans are include banning unflavored vapes and enforcing tobacco flavoring.

But to your point, I’m not making claims about the healthiness of vaping. You are. And you’re making it up.

  • Lobbyists with links to Big Tobacco fund pro-vaping Facebook campaigns
  • Vapes are an order of magnitude less bad in terms of health outcomes than cigarettes. But cigarettes are catastrophically bad in terms of health outcomes. And that leaves vapes being moderately bad

You’re just making that up though. It’s not a fact.

  • Lobbyists with links to Big Tobacco fund pro-vaping Facebook campaigns
  • The anti-vaping effort seems to be run by a lot of shallow thinkers who just think “cigarettes zomg!” I never would have been able to quit cigarettes without vaping. And now I’ve been totally nicotine and vape free for 5 years.

  • Yikes, Spez... Is Reddit asking to be set on fire?
  • That was the last straw for me. I was considering buying premium so I could see Reddit ad-free without Apollo. I’m not totally unsympathetic to the reality that the user-bubble has burst and Reddit wants to make a profit. But giving money to a company run by spez felt bad. And if they actually go through with this plan then it won’t be Reddit anymore. At least not in the ways that matter to me. Now there’s no chance I’m going back.
