Doubt threads will even use activitypub. Tumblr said it was going to months ago. Never happened.
if you see something which is worthy of a downvote: down vote and move on! Don't engage with it and feed the algorithm/engament machine so other people are exposed to it when sorting by active.
Disagree. You should politely state why you disagree. Engagement is good for newer websites like lemmy and you don't need to be rude or combative to disagree. One of my issues with reddit is when people would get downvoted for making a fair point or observation.
You can run a Friendica instance and act like you invented it. My family was impressed when I "made my own Netflix" with a Plex server lol.
True but it's something that can easily be done in xorg because it has almost 20 years worth of tools created for it.
I can't remember the worst movie I've seen at home. I've seen so many lol. The worst theater movie had to be the one missed call remake. I watched the original Japanese film later and realized the missed important plot points that were vital to the story. Also it was neutered from a R rated Takashi Miike film to a boring pg-13 horror film. On the bright side it introduced me to Takashi Miike and I've been a fan ever since.
Rough few weeks for Disney.
I didn't have an opinion on this until I tried to disable right click on a ubuntu machine with Wayland. It needs an xmodmap style tool.
Rogan is a conspiracy prone bonehead. He normally is receptive to anyone who comes on his broadcast and sounds halfway convincing. He will listen to scientists and people who believe that Atlantis was real. But if only kooks and cranks go on his podcast then he and his big audience will say that the scientists must be hiding something. Why won't they defend their views yada yada.
I don't like articles like this. Like it or not Rogan has a big audience and scientists shouldn't be afraid to explain things to your average person. Robert Kennedy is getting antivax people riled up and it would be a good time to counter that. If every scientist decides to boycott Rogan it will just embolden crackpots.
Kicking tables into people is a lot of fun. I love the zorro feeling of the game.
I've noticed most people who make foss software are either communists or libertarians. I don't really care about their political views because they are giving away free shit for not much in return and you have to be a little nutty to do that. If it bothers people they can use kbin. The cool thing about the fediverse is have more choices.
I've lived in Houston my whole life and I have no idea what this guy is talking about. It's one of the most diverse cities in the country of course we talk to each other lol.
No. I'd rather no up voting/downvoting on comments at all. It discourages discussion.
Well we definitely have a lot of reddit in this thread. Reminds me why I looked for alternatives in the first place.
They are Stalinists and Maoists who refuse to admit any wrongdoing by communist leaders. They are pretty prevalent on lemmy. For some reason they are typically pro Russia regarding Ukraine. Nostalgia maybe? lol
If we can't say naughty words on lemmy I'll have to find something else. Can't there be a website with a middle ground between 4th reich HQ and baby preschool?
It works pretty well for playlists. I can only compare it to musicolet which is the proprietary app I used before I found metro but I was able to import all my playlists pretty easily. I mostly like it because it has the best looking UI out of all the open source music apps I've seen.
This. I worked in appliance sales for years and we constantly had issues with Samsung. Their ice makers are complete garbage.
Vimusic is awesome. It's YouTube music without paying or ads.
Quillnote is great for taking notes.
Metro as an offline music player.
I'm thinking it's AI. Data just got a lot more valuable and Elon was wanting to sue Open AI and MS for not paying him a ridiculous amount of money. Reddit is going public and wants a big payout.
Every one knew that these companies were going to cash in on their users eventually that's why I'm glad sites like this exist.
