Texas asks people to avoid using their cars
  • God damnit I hate it. There is so much research and so many model case studies of cities with public transportation they could draw influence from. The current double decker I-35 design is one of the worst I've ever experienced, but it's because it was designed in the 60s so I can't fault the engineers much. If there were 30% less traffic a lot of the issues would be fixed with infra upgrades imo

The city passed Project Connect, a light rail and public transportation project. It's estimated to be $7.1 billion but was scaled down because of "increased building costs" and this I-35 expansion project is $7.7 billion. If you look at the map for Project Connect, it's a little underserved especially in the higher density parts of the city. At least they didn't run one in westlake lol

Imagine what they could have done with this with $15 billion

It almost makes me wish I lived there 15 years from now, but luckily the fascists will take over by then and funnel all the public money to the oligarchs so we don't have to worry about it :)

  • Can we all agree that whatever version of predictive text we have nowadays is crap, and has been for a long time?
  • I feel you. T9 on my sidekick in 2008 was better than my current predictable text. At one point my screen was so broken that I was using maybe a 1/4" sliver of the screen to text, and text prediction was solid enough to give actual suggestions

  • Newegg AI rule
  • Well, they suggested a relatively small capacity in a mechanical drive

My main rig has 11TB, my media server two RAID1 arrays at 16TB and 18TB

It's easy to get out of hand with media, games, lots of VMs, dedicated boot drives, etc

  • Former telecom manager admits to doing SIM swaps for $1,000
  • However, the former IT manager, Jonathan Katz, abused his managerial position and highly privileged account at a mobile telecommunications store to overcome security measures and perform unauthorized number ports.

As someone who worked in mobile phone sales: there are tons of people making 30k/yr that have the same "highly privileged account" this guy did. He seems to be on the IT side which would make it easier to track. Retail employees do this all the time and usually for less money. People come in with a fake ID and someone's social and they walk out with a new phone activated with their phone number. An example is being made out of him, but I guarantee this issue is more systemic

If someone is willing to potentially trade their employment for $5k, the pay is probably low and the turnover is high. Aiding in identity theft is wrong, but five years in prison seems overkill

  • Are there any BIFL corduroy pants?
  • My experience has been you have to cycle through several pairs to make them last

I have some from scotch and soda that have lasted me around 10 years, but I don't wear them that much. Honestly I wear them more for bed because they're comfortable and kinda loud
