What Are Your Favorite Cooperative Games?
  • My husband and I really like Wonderbook. It's a campaign game with several chapters. The theming is a bit childlike sometimes but the mechanics are fun.

  • What was your first PC game ever, and how did you react to it?
  • It was definitely some educational game, I'm quite sure it was "Leer 't lekker zelf", edutainment from the Netherlands. You had to subscribe and you got a new disc every two weeks. I just looked it up and people have actually archived it online.

  • What is a childish thing you still fully enjoy as an adult?
  • Cartoons, plush toys, cute merch (pencils, stickers,...). It always provides a great escape from the beige-gray adulting (tm) everywhere.

  • My Daily Driver: Iris Split
  • If I have to pick something, I'd say the thumb clusters. I barely use the top ones in the center because they're a bit of an awkward reach for my hand size. The bottom ones on the outside are also weird because you'd need to do some finger curl or move your hands. I just ended up mapping the keys I don't use as much over there and it hasn't been an issue, but it is some wasted potential :)

  • body mods!
  • I have first lobes on both ears and since last month a helix/flat on my right! I am quite sensitive to nickel so for most of my life, I tried having earrings but always reacted badly. I didn't get my lobes properly done at a piercer until 2021 and them using titanium helped. My right lobe is still finicky but we're working on it.

  • How do you use RSS?
  • I use it for recipes! I use the iOS app Mela for recipe storage and it has a built-in RSS feed system to follow recipe blogs so you can easily add new recipes to your collection without having to visit all the sites separately.

  • The front page of Lemmy is mostly posts from 2-4 days ago. I can see people getting bored/not bothering to check back if it's always the same posts on the default sort.
  • Sadly sorting on new also has its issues with the auto updates and content getting pushed down automatically. I'm hoping that gets fixed soon.

    What's your favorite internet "oldie"?
  • If I have to pick an absolute favorite, old Neopets. Having the little webspaces there is what got me into coding as a kid and I ended up studying & working in IT.
If I can pick multiple, I'd also add phpbb forums of yore, game guides with ASCII art maps, Flash games, and MSN Messenger.

  • Share zoomed in pictures of your pet!
  • "Zoomed in picture" is a pretty popular emoji category on the discord server I have with my friends. Here's a few:

  • Anyone else using projectors for sewing?

I'm using a cheap projector off BangGood on top of a camera tripod. There's a bit of set-up time every time I want to cut some fabric since I can't mount it to the ceiling but it's still way quicker than printing, taping, and cutting pdf patterns! This cute raccoon brushed French terry was turned into a Tilly and the Buttons Billie Sweater.

    Geese at Vondelpark, Amsterdam
  • The plot thickens: Apparently it is not a goose goose but closer to a "shelduck". Research rabbit hole time!

  • The "Yolkswagen Hatchback", made with Blender
  • Ahh this is so precious!
What resources would you recommend for others who would like to start learning Blender?

  • Geese at Vondelpark, Amsterdam
  • A quick Merlin Bird ID later - you're right! They're Egyptian Geese. I've never been good at identifying geese when they aren't the terrifying Canadian ones. Thanks! Luckily Lemmy actually allows post title edits, haha.

  • Horses Shadow Box with LEDs

It's difficult to take pics of a reflective surface :') I bought the svg files from Etsy, cut using my Silhouette Cameo, assembled it all in a IKEA frame, and added a LED string that I scavenged from an advent calendar from last year.

Apollo’s Christian Selig explains his fight with Reddit — and why users revolted
  • Although I'm a bit sad about no plans for Apollo for Lemmy, I definitely get the reasoning he gives - a double heartbreak is the last thing I'd wish on him. I got the Pixel Pals app (yay, cute raccoons!) to show support for his work & the challenges lately.

  • Reddit CEO tells employees that subreddit blackout “will pass”
  • Yeah, I also will be staying on Lemmy. There's bugs and performance issues but the quality of conversation is better and interaction feels genuine. There's also actual possibilities to contribute instead of getting lost in a sea of rehashed comments.
The main thing that is missing now (and I assume will remain missing) are the hobby communities, especially those aimed at non-techies, like sewing, cross stitch,... I feel the people there aren't going to bother with figuring out Lemmy/Kbin/Fediverse... because they tend to be less tech savvy.

  • Reddit CEO tells employees that subreddit blackout “will pass”
  • The whole bot comments accusing bot comments of being bot comments surely was intriguing. And that's with them copy-pasting existing comments - wonder how many "users" are GPT bots lately.

  • Reddit CEO tells employees that subreddit blackout “will pass”
  • I wonder if the comments about no significant revenue drop still holds true today. I was quite surprised to see that there doesn't seem to be too big a drop in posts & comments (~1k) aside from the crash yesterday. https://blackout.photon-reddit.com/

  • How do you deal with your ADHD?
  • I use both but I'm terrible at taking meds regularly (ha, the irony!).
For losing track of time during meetings/focus sessions, I use a Time Timer to visually see time passing by/showing how much time is left.
For reminders, I use Due on iOS (+ Apple Watch) as it continues to send reminders until you do the thing and check it off.
For to-do lists, I use both paper planning with a bullet journal-esque notation as well as a whiteboard for "temporary" planning, like creating a prioritization matrix, as it allows me to shift things around more easily.

    First time sewing footwear!

Pattern: Twig + Tale Adult Wayfarer Shoes Fabric: leftover bamboo terry cloth lining and upcycled denim outer

I added some sock stop dots on the bottom to make them less slippery. They're definitely too warm for summer though, I will probably end up making a linen or cotton pair to wear in warmer weather. I'm also going to experiment with thick/rigid interfacing for the soles so they're not as floppy.

    He loves ice cubes
  • I think it's the sound or the fact that they will gently move/swirl around/bob up and down. Either way, cheapest cat toy so far!

  • He loves ice cubes

When we get any ice cubes out of the freezer, he'll go and sit by the water bowl until we give him some. Then he'll sit there and stare until they've melted... Not sure what's so mesmerizing but he loves them.
