Proton CEO goes full MAGA
  • I wouldn’t say he embraced Trump, I’d say he is pro-breaking big tech, since that would probably help Proton.

Bernie Sanders even came out and said “hey, if Trump wants to cap credit card interest rates, I’m with him on that.”

Trump says a lot of shit to appeal to working class people. I don’t disagree with reminding him of what he said and holding him to those things, if he’s now going to be president.

  • Mark Zuckerberg says anyone who quits Meta is 'virtue signaling'
  • Same, also, Zuckerberg has always been a sketch ball who does anti-social and user hostile things with his app, so it was just years of being fed up with that. 2017 was just the straw that broke the camel’s back.

  • Mexico offers cash to get guns off the streets: $1,200 for an AK-47 rifle and $1,300 for a machine gun
  • You always hear about these programs creating the wrong incentives. Soon enough, it’s easier to set up an AR15 factory and just start producing them so you can sell them to the government.

Georgia had program to try to cut down on the number of wild hogs that were overpopulated. So, they paid people a price per tail. Soon enough, you had people breeding wild hogs, so they could kill them and get the bounty.

  • TAL was one of many that faced a significant drop in downloads when Apple stopped automatically downloading new episodes of podcasts to the devices of subscribers who hadn’t listened to several episodes. Last year, the show quietly changed its “about” page, revising its listenership from 4 million each week, broken out into 1.6 radio listeners and 2.6 million podcast downloads, down to 3 million between radio and digital, a shift in line with industry-wide declines. TAL did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

    Oof.

Apple’s 2025 Plan: iPhone Overhaul, Smart Home Push and AI Catch-Up [Bloomberg]
  • Well, my view of the Apple Intelligence changes is that they were a bit gimmicky. Notification summaries are more annoying than useful. Emoji generator is fun, but not really necessary.

The best feature is that you can now ask Siri to send your request to ChatGPT. Siri doesn’t seem much improved itself. Apple should put the bulk of its effort in to improving Siri.

  • Big cuts to Medicaid reportedly on the menu for House Republicans
  • Why? We pay for Medicaid. It’s not like this is from the general fund. So, what they want to do is steal that money you paid for Medicaid and pay for their other bullshit priorities like mass deportation or more tax cuts for rich people.

    > A Fediverse Alternative to TikTok > > In the last few months i really gotten into the whole Fediverse thing, but i noticed that, despite it being the most popular Social Media Platform, there isn't a TikTok alternative. I know there is Loops, but it's not open source or federated yet, so it's not really an option. Why is that?
