What remote do you use?
  • Steam controller or PlayStation, depending on the game.

  • Homelab Organization
  • I have a couple Libre Office files where I document the non-technical stuff for my own quick reference, like network layout in Draw, or IP and port assignments in Calc. I use a git repo to store and organize podman scripts, systemd unit files, configs, etc. Probably not the most elegant solution, but it's simple and FOSS.

Reverse proxy is Nginx Proxy Manager.

  • Plex remote access - low quality even with gigabit fiber
  • I have the older "Google WiFi" mesh and I was able to install OpenWRT on them. You might want to see if that's an option for yours before spending money on a new system.

  • Thumb drive heating up
  • This might be a good start: https://github.com/ecdye/zram-config

  • "No code" databases
  • Libre Office "Base"

  • Interesting speculation about the ARRL outage
  • Someone probably just dropped a reel while swapping the tape on their mainframe and has spent the last week trying to roll it all back up.

  • Another option would be to redirect logs to a ramdisk. That's what I'm doing on a RPI to try to minimize writes on the sd card. The biggest downside is that you lose your logs when you power off the device, but if the alternative is not having logs at all, I think it's still a better option.

Of course, installing a proper drive is still the best solution.

  • Boost for Reddit is working again?
  • It never stopped working for me, besides the outage the other day. I'm guessing it's because I'm a mod for a sub. They said from the beginning that they wouldn't break things for mods, and surprisingly, it seems that they've kept their word on that.

  • [Discussion] Do you still use your Steam Deck much?
  • Not much any more. I brought it to PAX this year to keep me entertained while waiting in lines, but otherwise it's barely come out of its case this year.

I don't blame the deck, though I've scarcely played any video games this year, in general. When I got it, I played a bunch of the Witcher 3, but then they released an update that completely broke the game on decks. After that, my go-to game (when I play) became Cities Skylines, which just feels far more natural with a mouse.

  • Brief poll: What kind of confirmation rates do you have in QRZ?
  • 67% on QRZ.

That includes everything I log, though, and I don't actually expect confirmations on some of them. For example, I'll log QSOs on local repeaters just to help me keep track of people I've talked to in the area, but I don't expect to get QSLs on those.

Anyway, for a point of comparison, I have 59% on LOTW.

  • [Discussion] New month, new games. What are you playing on your Deck? - February 2024
  • Just bought Palworld, but haven't had a chance to play yet.

  • My childhood Pokemon Blue cart - 157 hours logged.
  • port the Pokémon to Pokémon violet.

After beating the game, I spent the rest of my time trying to break it. 😁.

Missingno, ■'m■, infinite items, lvl 200+ Pokemon and various other glitches have wrecked havoc on that save. I'm not sure Violet can handle it!

  • My childhood Pokemon Blue cart - 157 hours logged.
  • Well, if you add in the hours I put into Yellow and then Gold, I might be pretty close. Lol

  • My childhood Pokemon Blue cart - 157 hours logged.
  • I have! That actually is a restored file.

I used to back up my save and then start new games to help friends collect the starters. After I traded away the new starters, I'd restore my original save and keep playing, so that save has been backed up and restored a number of times along the way.

I'd like to actually get a dumper at some point so that I can more securely save the file, but for the time being it's saved on the same Mega Memory Card I was using back then.

  • My childhood Pokemon Blue cart - 157 hours logged.
  • I think so.

I can't actually remember, as I have had it for about 25 years. I assume I probably replaced it at some point, but batteries in the first Gen games tend to last longer than the later gens, so it might actually be the original.

  • What apps are you guys using until Boost for Lemmy gets released?
  • Jerboa for now.

Definitely switching to Boost ASAP, though.

  • Did Boost for Reddit finally actually die?
  • Still working fine here, too, but only on my two mod alts. My non-mod account just gets some kind of "request exceeded" error.

  • Hello Nerfing world in another world!
  • Still figuring out this fediverse thing, but I think I'm here.
