TIL. Always looked at them as the cool California chain. (I'm easy coast, none here.)
It'll be interesting to see if that number climbs once Windows 10 reaches EOL.
The API for Reddit was free. I think for sites like Imgur, Redgifs, etc they paid some pretty reasonable fees. It's worth noting that many of them had revenue sharing agreements and trademark licenses with Reddit that were terminated after spez became CEO.
IIRC some of the employees who still have company-owned computers, etc have tried numerous times to return them with no response from Twitter. Like you said probably because those people were fired as well.
They're not even consistent on that point either. Quark in this episode declares it worthless. In an episode of Voyager a couple of Ferengi are mentioned to have have tried to steal gold reserves from Ft Knox. And in Enterprise sine 22nd century Ferengi (pre-official first contact which was during TNG) raid the ship and are interested in the gold they think is hidden aboard.
Not mentioned in the in the article or interview but DS9 of course also did an episode set in 2024 with no mention of the Eugenics Wars or WW3. Picard did reference its Sanctuary Districts though which was nice.
And yeah this was an issue in the pilot, when Like summarized Earth history. Events spiral from the Second American Civil War into the Eugenics Wars and ultimately World War III.
Just from the look of it, Thunder seemed very RIF-like. Last I saw TalkLittle was making an app for Tildes, no indication that he's working on a Lemmy app sadly.
Pineapple is native to South America, so probably not.
I may be incorrect about the timing, but I'm pretty sure he was photographed at the airport in Rostov-on-Don, after the deal was announced and supposedly on his way to Belarus.
I don't see how you'd ever be able to convince Prigozhin he's not going to fall out a window, get novichok'd, or find some polonium in his tea after even daring to turn and march on Moscow.
I think most people are roasting their choice of game controller. The cheapo Logitech model. Plus if they wanted simple and reliable I would think a wired version would be better, not the wireless model. The military is all the time using them for controlling UAVs and stuff in the field. Nobody really pokes fun because it doesn't look like the cheap controller you'd hand off to "player 2".
Someone should tell them that might stop happening if they -- checks notes -- all leave Ukrainian territory.
My grandma makes the best lemon meringue pie I've ever had, and it's similar in a lot of ways. Except instead of water and cornstarch to give the filling body, she uses a can of condensed milk.
So you add the yolks directly into the condensed milk at room temp. Then add sugar, lemon juice, and zest in and mix well. Toss it in the oven for a few minutes to give the meringue some color. Then let it cool.
So, the actual reason for the change is likely their dumb handling of capitalization in the original scheme. To use your username as an example:
copygirl#1234 Copygirl#1234 COPYGIRL#1234 CopyGirl#1234 Etc etc
Every permutation of capitalization is available as a distinct username. And with the low price of Nitro you get to customize your discriminator, which could make impersonation a very real problem.
From what I've seen I believe it to be sheer incompetence. Satellite footage in the days prior to the collapse show turbulent water that could be minor overtopping. Additionally there was only one spillway open closest to the generation house, and the road deck above the spillway can be seen to collapse over several days. I've seen some talk that it could potentially have been enough to scour away the soil beneath and compromise the structural integrity of the dam along with the overtopping.
Oh nice I was looking for a good Trek community. Did /r/tuvixinstitute /r/daystrominstitute move over?
Nah I think it's clear he wanted it to leak. He's just an egomaniac who thinks he's actually a good leader. That section of the memo was for investor confidence. (It'll pass, no revenue effect so far, etc.) The other part about warning employees not to wear Reddit gear in public for fear of violence was meant for the press and for the uninformed, to try to garner sympathy and paint the protestors as bad actors.
Um. The only drama I've seen about Discord is the name change crap. Unfortunately that was a necessary change because of their own original stupidity with usernames and capitalization.
Evilcoleslaw#1234
EvilColeslaw#1234
evilcoleslaw#1234
Every permutation of capitalization can be a unique username under their original format, and for the low low price of Nitro you can change your discriminator at will to impersonate someone quite convincingly.
/I/iamthatthis was quoted in the interview as saying he didn't think the math worked even at $5 given the app store cut and other API prices they pay (eg Imgur). Reddit's quoted $1 per user per month was laughable, with the top 5% or so users costing $7-8 per month. I just don't foresee this working out. Hopefully they start allowing you to monitor and log usage or I have a feeling this guys gonna get a nasty bill one month.
Cool. I was going to hold out hope that something might change. But I've just deleted my account of 12+ years.
